Key notes from Recruiting Country

  • The Aggies have a top-10 road win and an undefeated record. Now, we have a wave of momentum that we haven’t seen before. Talk about a massive weekend. Over 100 prospects on campus, a ton of already committed recruits to come back around. Then they get in the ear of the guys coming to campus. The crowd was awesome. I know watching that game there were some highs and lows, there are things to clean up, but you have to like the direction you’ve seen. That is pretty the takeaway from a lot of the recruits from this weekend.

  • Florida is trying to make a push for KJ Ford‍, but they have the Billy Napier uncertainty. Ford is doing some homework, and the same for A&M. A&M was very invested in Ford from early in the recruiting process. He was one of the first 2026 offers. He has been on campus a number of times and has some great relationships here. If A&M decides to go all in, I think they’ll have a very good shot to pull it out.

  • For Tank Jones‍, not necessarily looking for a flip right now. There is some interest there for both sides. It's going to be something to keep an eye on long-term.

  • I think that will be the case until the nitty-gritty end of the process, when it is time to put pen to paper and arrive on a campus somewhere. A&M was right there when Jones was making his decision. A&M was in his top two, and a lot of people thought A&M was the one. He has been a top priority. A&M is not going anywhere there. I mentioned him on commit watch going into the weekend. I said that because A&M has the pedal down, and it was a possibility. For A&M, just getting him on campus, he had to travel here. You don’t take the visit and listen. Now, he will be getting calls from Oregon, coaches in your ear all weekend. You will take in the sights and enjoy it. So you don’t take the visit if you don’t have any interest. I do think there is a long way to go, but A&M has had its attention. A&M has a lot of pluses in its favor.

  • The out-of-state guys, Bryce Perry-Wright‍ will be here for the next two weekends. Jayce Johnson‍ is coming back this weekend. Hakim Frampton‍, who just committed to A&M, is coming here for the second weekend in a row. You are going to have a lot of these guys coming back time and time again, and especially, like you said, for the out-of-state guys, you get them back on campus around each other. These guys are communicating with each other. Getting them together, getting their families around each other, building those bonds, it can’t be said enough how important that stuff is.

  • Also, talking about riding the wave of momentum, you do have a period where you don’t see these guys for a while. It is important to give them plenty of reasons not to want to take other visits. So, continue to impress on the field, build that resume up, so when other teams call, they say, “A&M is kicking butt on the field. Why am I going to mess with this?” This opportunity is invaluable. Since we joined the SEC, this has never happened before. Three consecutive SEC home games at Kyle Field just don’t happen. The recruiting staff is doing an incredible job at handling it. This Mississippi State game is going to be a big one.

  • Frampton has been very vocal about how he felt about A&M’s culture and university. He and his dad have visited multiple times, and they couldn’t say enough about Coach Mike Elko and Jordan Peterson and all of those guys. He is versatile in the secondary and on offense, too. His receiver tape is real, but what he does at cornerback, he can play multiple different spots there. It will be fun to see him develop with the Aggies and what they are building right now.

  • Frampton has some quickness to him. He is pretty slight, long and lean, has long arms and is maybe 6-foot. He brings a lot to the table with his ability to cover that slot guy and be that blanket there. He is not afraid to get physical either. You see that on his tape, he will knock the heck out of you. He was one of these guys Elko and the defensive coaching staff zeroed in on. He got that offer two summers ago, so he has been on the board for a while. It has been trending this way for a while. I put the odds in favor of him committing this weekend. It was good to see it come through.

  • Mike Brown‍ has been a super impressive guy. I always thought Madden Williams‍ was underappreciated. He wasn’t talked about as much. He was impressive in the 7-on-7 circuit I saw. He does great at camps, and he was all-state last year. He has done nothing but produce at one of the top high schools in the country. He is killing it against tough competition. We talk about Zaden Krempin‍. You don’t want to have to count on a true freshman, but Krempin is a guy who can come in on the offensive line and find his way on the rotation quickly, just because of how physically and mentally mature he is. I see the same for Williams. He is going to get the playbook down. You will see him make plays. Eventually, that finds its way onto the field and into the rotation. Williams brings a real, polished skill set, which will prove to be very valuable early on.

  • Coming off the visit, I am hearing great things about the way things have been done between A&M and Cooper Witten‍. The whole staff has done a phenomenal job there with his family and getting to know them. A&M is at the top of his top list. I don’t think he’s actually put out a top list, but I know Oklahoma, Ohio State, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Clemson, and A&M. I would say A&M is positioning itself well for Witten. He spent time with the coaches and other commits, and I am just hearing the Aggies are doing a phenomenal job with him. I think A&M will be a major player in his decision. When it comes to his decision timeline, Witten has been a very measured guy. I look for them to take their time, check out their options and continue to evaluate the process. So, I am not expecting anything anytime soon, but I would put A&M in the upper tier for him. I could definitely see him wearing the Maroon & White when the time comes.

  • Hearing a lot of Texas Tech momentum for Jalen Brewster‍. I have been making phone calls and checking in on things. The Aggies did a phenomenal job on the visit, but Texas Tech came in with a lot of momentum. It seems they have the edge. He is signing soon.

  • Krempin brings it, man. He has been one of those guys...You don’t start at tackle at Prosper as a sophomore if you are not really good. He has been a phenomenal prospect in that program all the way up. He was about 245 to 250 pounds when I first met him, and now, to see him fill out his frame. He is one of those guys who get it. He knows how to get his hands in the right position. He is a technician out there. He plays with great leverage, has phenomenal flexibility and explosion from his hips.

  • Krempin said, “I get a lot of complaints from defenders.” He said, “I’ve got to play through the whistle.” That school continues to produce Power Four linemen. I want to say this year, they have three that are going to the college level. They have a top guy in 2027. When you have been a multi-year starter on that team, Krempin is just awesome. He has great character and a great family. He is going to fit right into the culture here at A&M. He will be in College Station this weekend.

Why don't we just admit the truth especially on kids that we are battling the tards….we are getting outbid.

Perhaps, but there is always going to be a limit for a particular player. A good analogy is buying a house with multiple bidders. Someone may come along and bid 25% above the rest and the other bidders say you're welcome to it for that amount of money.

No offense, but that's the definition of being outbid. I don't understand your post

Correct, it is.

A better way for me to put it using my analogy is that it's often OK to be outbid. Tech in particular may be way overpaying based on what the rest of the market has valued a particular player's NIL, but we'd never really know that either way.
