Interesting, I thought Alex Garland had announced he was retiring after Civil War. It's been several years now since he said that, though.

Based on the director's experiences in Iraq apparently.

Ray Mendoza is a former Navy Seal with Seal Team 5. Also was a BUDS instructor. I'd assume this is going to be about the Battle of Ramadi. Seals had Sniper overwatch helping the Marines.

Back in April, on the press tour for Civil War, Garland reiterated that he's not retiring, is "going to stop directing for the foreseeable future," and will instead focus solely on screenwriting. That said, Warfare began filming the very next month, so he almost assuredly meant *after* Warfare, seeing as he was deep into prepping it at the time.

Either way, between this and co-writing 28 Years Later, he's poised for a big 2025, at which point I'm guessing the screenwriting-only thing begins.

Thought the same thing. Looked very much like BHD.

That being said, I'll see it when it starts streaming. Looks good.

Looks good.

But Civil War was just not all that and I have yet to talk to anyone that saw it that thought otherwise. Pretty meh.

The action scenes in civil war were incredible. Also the fact that this is all "real time" is very intriguing and paired with Garland this is gonna be great

Just got served the trailer for this.

Can't believe the meme kid from "We're the Millers" is a Navy Seal but cool.

Looking forward to seeing this on the big screen.

I enjoyed it thoroughly in the theater on opening night...was only one of about a dozen people in there. Rewatched a few months later at home and it just didn't seem to hold up as well as I thought it would. I can't explain it, just fell flat and anticlimatic in a few spots. Had to remind myself that some of it seems to be intended to be symbolic/satirical.

He looks more like a young grunt to me.

Looks a lot more normal now that he has grown into his face. Man he was a goofy kid.

Got to see an early screening of this on Tuesday. Was an awesome movie. Definitely intense and brutal. They made some great choices imo with how they directed this.

Just got out. There were some technically insane scenes. So brutal and loud. You feel that experience with them. That was really well done. But still, I can't imagine what those soldiers went through.
. The pre credits stuff was really done well

Just finished watching Warfare on the big screen.

Very intense retelling of one battle. Not a movie with character development, backstory, story arc, redemption or anything.

Just all dramatic action. Definitely puts you right in their shoes

The reason to see this one in the theater is for the sound. From automatic weapons fire down to the click of the selector switch from Safe to Fire, the level of detail in the sound is amazing.

I never deployed overseas but during my Army training, I had an opportunity to see Claymore mines and anti-tank mines get detonated. I think they did a great job with that kind of stuff.

Once they're in contact, the only way to describe it is intense.

And as a former Armor Officer, the lack of Armor support drove me crazy but that's on Donald Rumsfeld and true to what really happened.

Saw this last night after seeing Minecraft. Talk about polar opposites.

This was so very well done. Agree with Hollywood BQ on seeing in theaters for the sound, and the fact that this is not a story-driven film.

I don't think they showed one Iraqi insurgent get killed, this was all about intense dread from this inner-town combat in the Anbar province. Anyone who fought in Fallujah/Ramadi/Anbar province is a special kind of warrior.

I kept thinking back to Extreme Ownership, the book written by two SEALs who describe leadership lessons based on their experiences in missions like these. Definitely a good read, especially if you liked or appreciated this film.

I will watch anything Garland makes.

I think I want to see this almost just for the sound the way everyone is talking about it. Great sound is almost a lost art or a neglected one these days, IMO.

Went tonight and saw it. I liked the perspective the movie is told . The sound definitely is to be experienced in the theater. The 2006-2007 period Battle of Ramadi was one of the most fiercest battles of the Iraq War. Had some fellow Marine buddies with 2nd Batt/4th Marines that were in Ramadi.
