I am trying to figure out why I loved Ted Lasso and much cooler on this show. I think part of it was Episode 4 was just so bad and Ted Lasso Season 1 never had an episode as bad as Episode 4. It isn't the pronoun issue or even Zero's character. It was just the episode seemed to feel the need to explain the plot. Too much telling and not enough showing. Honestly, the fact the Santi's mother didn't know that Pryce had a kid is mind blowing. Pryce is a Ryder Cup caliber golfer, his son dying of cancer would be all over ESPN/news etc.

This episode did the same thing with Mitt's wife's death. Where the characters kinda just tell each other things without it always feeling earned.

I think what made Ted Lasso special, is the side characters all felt like they could have been a major character in another show, they side characters seemed to be living their own lives and having their own motivations. This show only Pryce seems to be going on the journey and the other characters are just there to say lines. I don't think I described this very well.

I think what bothers me about Stick is it feels too safe and too pandering, which I am probably holding against the show.

I think a more interesting show would have been just Zero, Pryce, and Mitts. Zero being this lost soul bouncing around dead-in jobs in around golf courses, her path intersecting with Pryce and him seeing a spark of talent and them trying to nurture it. Making the golf student more or a project and more questions on why Stick would help. There would have been avenues for more storylines and been different. Although, people would have screamed woke.

I think my biggest issue with the show is I don't really care about Santi. The actor is doing a fine job, but they don't give the character a lot to do. I almost feel like he is too good at golf for this story. His struggle is basically maturing and learning to manage the course which I haven't found as compelling as say Jaime Tartt from Ted Lasso who had massive trauma and character flaws to overcome.

There's a lot I agree with in here. It feels like this show wants to be Ted Lasso but hasn't put in the work on the characters to get there. The best version of this show to me is something like Guardians of the Galaxy. A group of misfits that all find themselves thrown together helping each other for a common cause, Ted Lasso has a lot of that DNA. The issue then becomes are any of the characters even likeable? Do their stories work? Why should we care about them individually or collectively? This show doesn't have a heartbeat, which is the main issue. Feels like if Santi was a kid you want to root for it improves a lot of the shortcomings of the show. The actor isn't the issue either, he's doing what he can with what he's been given. Maron is mainly providing exposition. I'll continue to watch because because I don't dislike it, but I really hope they can improve by the end of the season.

I feel like how the outdoor board people feel when theres any show with a gun. "Thats not how you'd load a modified 9mm".

Things like everyone celebrating that eagling the 17th hole was the end of a tournament? Or two weeks ago "the back 9 is starting!" as if theres a halftime. And I laughed when the actor at the beginning clearly didn't know state abbreviations because his line was "... Forest Dunes Golf Club in Roscommon Missouri". I imagine his script said MI and he screwed up. Weird to not fix that though.

It's so bad. It's like no one involved with the show has ever played golf. Except presumably Owen Wilson gotten into it, which makes some of the dialogue even more insane.

How 'bout Pryce explaining what a bump and run was in the middle of the tournament as if the kid had never heard of it before.

The thing that irked me maybe the most was when Pryce was hitting balls next to the bus, and his clubs were giant cavity backs. Looked like they grabbed a random bag from the nearest pawn shop and said here "swing these."

It's an easy watch. It's short.

Incredibly predictive and hasn't really gotten better.

Agree. I am continuing to watch because it is short and easy to watch during lunch, but I am disappointed it isn't better.

I think what annoys me is there feels like there could be a really good show here, but instead decided to be bland and check boxes.

I'm enjoying this enough so far but agreed that the characters aren't quite all landing for me.

Pryce and Mitts as well as Santi's mom all have some depth to them, and the story behind Pryce and his son really lands as a dad to a little guy. But agreed that Santi and Zero both seem a little flat (and lol at all the up in arms about pronouns). Zero was actually her most interesting in ep 2 when she was bartending and dealing with the ******* customer, she had some attitude and a spark that was fun. Since then she's become a bit more of a stereotype.

I'll keep watching as I like shows with heart and I'm curious to see where it goes.

Probably the best episode of the season. The beginning was done so well.

I didn't finish it since my son came home and wanted to watch Andor, but that first scene was the best in the series by far.

This show is great. Want more.

I agree, this has been my favorite episode so far. This episode felt closer to its potential.

Last two eps are finally picking the show up. Its going to get fun when they interact with Olyphant

This show is probably the most predictable show in history.

I can't either. Everyone should know exactly what "they" means when referring to an individual. Some people are so ignorant, and even hateful. Having "they" pronouns should be self explanatory and it is maddening that it confuses so many boomers.

Watched 3 episodes and left the room for the wife to watch it. I like Wilson but he just talks to much. His same schtik as Midnight in Paris.

The Santi character kinda sucks, but you know the kid playing him is acting his ass off because I half believe that Santi is actually attracted to Zero

What a great episode! Looking forward to next week. So happy to see Timothy Oliphant. Always thought he was underated as an actor.
