This is a circular argument. The left isn't wrong, if abc would have pulled the show, that's life and consequences. The FCC pushing them to is bull*****

The right won't listen, and they aren't necessarily wrong about that either. The lefts screaming falls on pretty deaf ears when they only scream because it's the right pulling the strings. They have no issue when it's their own party encroaching on rights.

And until people stop caring so much about if it was a dem or rep who did it and care more about the actions done, this will always be a pointless argument.

Maybe, but maybe not. If the FCC is supposed to police such things and didn't, would actual enforcement be bad? We live in the era of Kamala's edited interview and the aftermath. Perhaps this is indicative of the FCC taking its mission or partial mission seriously, and the people who lived most outside the lines now have to be accountable.

I'm not sold on the big bad fcc narrative yet.

Good lord. Yes, let's have the FCC micromanaging the editing of interviews and monologues of talkshow hosts. Funny how it's only cases that benefit Trump that are the problem here.

So what is their purpose again? Just hand out licenses and check out? Or do they do more? Are they capable of doing more than one thing at a time? I'll hang up and listen…

So what, I'm not getting into the politics of it. Both sides abuse their power.

I just like highlighting that Kimmel is a hack and it should be posted over and over.

"Both sides" don't use the FCC to litigate political speech they disagree with. One side does that.

You are exactly right. The left simply has to give their CEO a call and resolve the problem using the old leftist network for the most part. For more difficult cases they use other methods. Its all worked out well for them so far, so why change?

This whole argument about the right using just the threat of their license enforcement has you liberals in such an uproar you are totally blind to the RAGE people feel against the left for years of censorship and lies across the board. People are TIRED of it - tired to not care about the consequences because the consequences of doing NOTHING is far worse for us that are not on the left.

As someone who is more centrist than most conservatives its a painful thing to watch, but we're really helpless on this path the left has sent us down. And you're an idiot if you think conservatives will just keep sitting back and watch it happen - that's literal suicide at this point.

So you're saying the left uses social pressure therefore the right assumes it should use government coercion?

The white house calling social media companies and telling them to do things is not social pressure. That's an absurd claim.

So much misinformation in this thread. Good Lord. The FCC did not force ABC to fire Kimmel. There's no evidence of that! ABC MADE A BUSINESS DECISION.

It's pretty clear cut that there is no government involvement in silencing speech here. Kimmel is free to continue being a disgusting human being, just not on ABC's network. He's not going to prison or being executed for what he said.

No evidence except for multiple examples of the FCC chair explicitly and implicitly saying he influenced them. And the president saying that companies should lose their licenses.

You don't seem to understand the difference between the FCC and Trump stating their opinions versus actually taking action.

I haven't said anything to that effect, but it is clear many on this thread don't need a smoking gun to spread lies that this is government censorship of free speech. Look in a mirror.

Not sure this applies as I've done very little research.

We have been looking in a mirror. We see ourselves getting banned, censored, debanked, deplatformed, called names (REPEATEDLY), doxxed, lied to and lied about all the time.

And since when did the government censor anything here? Talk about another lie/misinformation. If ABC thought they were in the right and had nothing to fear from the FCC they could have fought it in court. But no - instead ABC took action by themselves and the government didn't censor anything.

If your boss says, "don't do this or you might be fired," or a cop says,"If you do this we're going to have to investigate you," is that just harmlessly stating an opinion with nothing behind it?

Do you deny the results of the 2020 election? Did you participate in the Jan 6 riot that sought to stop the peaceful transfer of power and ensure Trump remained in power?

No? Then he wasn't talking about you.

The difference is, the FCC didn't publicly threaten anyone to make ether of those firings.

I don't know how many more times we have to say this, but...

NO. ONE. HERE. IS. MAD. THAT. KIMMEL. GOT. SUSPENDED. BY. DISNEY.

For the umpteenth time, that's not the issue.

It's that the FCC and Trump are publicly threatening to silence speech they don't like, and that the affiliates likely capitulated to them due to the fact they need the FCC to approve an unprecedented merger.

This isn't rocket science.
