So what, I'm not getting into the politics of it. Both sides abuse their power. And who knows if what's being reported is ever true. ABC might just be deflecting to justify firing a guy they should have fired a long time ago.

I just like highlighting that Kimmel is a hack and it should be posted over and over.

"Both sides" don't use the FCC to litigate political speech they disagree with. One side does that.

Jon Stewart had a great response last night.

But again

It was never "free speech"

They were using money to control speech.

And I have no problem with controlling speech that promotes violence. It's gone way past political speech.

You're right, your side used the IRS and Lois Lerner instead. You had us debanked under Biden too. You're much more sinister.

We've just taken a bad comic nobody watches anymore. The horror! The horror!

Clean up your own house if you want sympathy.

Correct, the Biden white house didn't even pretend to go through a legal process to silence opinions they didn't agree with. What Trump is doing is more akin to what Obama did via the IRS. I'm sure everyone on this thread was adamantly opposed to that as well.

Free speech doesn't mean money isn't involved

Okay, let's assume the FCC by the rulebook had a case. Let's think about it like a football game. This is an obscure rarely enforced penalty. every team does it. The referees are *supposed* to be unbiased. If you saw this flag thrown on the field in favor of your team, when you dang well know the referee has stuffed reveille in his bed, youd be happy for your team, but admit that it was a ticky tack call. On the other hand, if they called it against your team and he had a burnt orange living room, you'd be livid and calling for investigations.

What the FCC is arguing is dumb in my opinion. The vast majority of the outrage in this thread is performative and selective.

is... this a serious point?

do you know what "free" in the context of free speech means? at first I thought you were just making a clever joke, but now I am concerned.

There was zero evidence after repeated investigations of deliberate targeting by the IRS. I know you don't believe that because you've been conditioned not to believe it, but there it is. Meanwhile we have the FCC commissioner outright threatening broadcasters whose speech does not align with the administration's position.

totally dumb and politically motivated bullying. That's what half of the people in this thread are trying to say.

no one has said they like Kimmel or hate Kirk or anything like that... just that they think the FCC is out of line with the actions they took.

They're saying it because they feel their side is being targeted. They pretty much all shut the hell up when the shoe is on the other foot. The number of people in this thread that are actually in favor of preventing authoritarian bull**** can be counted on one hand if I had to guess.

They admitted they screwed up in their process, but again, this was litigated to an insane extent with multiple investigations that found no deliberate targeting based on politics.

You're accusing me of being conditioned when you're expecting me to buy the "we investigated ourselves and found no wrong doing" argument? Ok. Meanwhile we know that Lerner destroyed evidence in the form of her phone and all of its contents. Sure, no deception occurred.

It's almost like someone wiped their server so it couldn't be investigated too. That's some selective memory you got there professor.

The reality is you haven't experienced actual fascism in your life and this doesn't remotely count. The Eastern European immigrants that grew up under it and moved here have been talking about it for decades, but they weren't worried about republicans. They've noted it with social justice and DEI, and have to be hushed in academic circles like the ones you're outspoken in. An inconvenient truth for your side.

So no, Kimmel losing his job isn't fascism. This isn't a big deal in the long run.

This is a circular argument. The left isn't wrong, if abc would have pulled the show, that's life and consequences. The FCC pushing them to is bull*****

The right won't listen, and they aren't necessarily wrong about that either. The lefts screaming falls on pretty deaf ears when they only scream because it's the right pulling the strings. They have no issue when it's their own party encroaching on rights.

And until people stop caring so much about if it was a dem or rep who did it and care more about the actions done, this will always be a pointless argument.

You are exactly right. The left simply has to give their CEO a call and resolve the problem using the old leftist network for the most part. For more difficult cases they use other methods. Its all worked out well for them so far, so why change?

This whole argument about the right using just the threat of their license enforcement has you liberals in such an uproar you are totally blind to the RAGE people feel against the left for years of censorship and lies across the board. People are TIRED of it - tired to not care about the consequences because the consequences of doing NOTHING is far worse for us that are not on the left.

As someone who is more centrist than most conservatives its a painful thing to watch, but we're really helpless on this path the left has sent us down. And you're an idiot if you think conservatives will just keep sitting back and watch it happen - that's literal suicide at this point.

Maybe, but maybe not. If the FCC is supposed to police such things and didn't, would actual enforcement be bad? We live in the era of Kamala's edited interview and the aftermath. Perhaps this is indicative of the FCC taking its mission or partial mission seriously, and the people who lived most outside the lines now have to be accountable.

I'm not sold on the big bad fcc narrative yet.
