Why would DOJ do this since Epstein is dead and his plea agreement is now moot?

"The Justice Department on Friday asked a federal judge overseeing the case of deceased sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein to deny a request from NBC news to unseal the names of two associates who received large payments from him in 2018, court documents show. The Justice Department cited privacy concerns expressed by the two individuals as the reason for not making their names public.

The first associate received a payment of $100,000 from Epstein and the second associate received a payment of $250,000, both in 2018, days after the Miami Herald began publishing a series of investigative stories where victims criticized a plea deal he received in Florida in 2008."

Those who have been calling for the release of the files, including Trump and his employees, were demanding the release of the files until Trump basically said there's nothing to see here.

Everyone knew Trump was in the Epstein files from the beginning. He's in there for business and socializing reasons, not for kid-diddling reasons. Saying Trump is in the Epstein files is not the gotcha that people think it is.

Definitely. Which is why I don't think Trump is necessarily protecting himself. It would have been pretty easy for him to come out 6 months ago and say yeah 15 years ago Epstein was my best friend.

Which only points to him, the current DOJ, and the previous, covering for someone or something very important, which is far worse in my opinion. Which is also the answer to "But why didn't Biden release this to ruin Trump?"

I thought it was an unforced error when Bondi first said the files were on her desk and it died there.

If Trump was in there dim's would have already released the info. I can imagine all kinds of scenarios. I hope Trump is the one to release.
