I lost interest long ago in pro sports due to the entitled and bratty nature of a lot of the athletes, across multiple sports. Sure, there are still some athletes who are incredible talents and also outstanding on a personal level, but they are increasingly the exception rather than the rule.

The problem with the pro sports revenue model is a lot of the cost gets socialized. Even though I don't watch, some portion of it will get wrapped into my Youtube TV subscription, multiplied by millions of others who don't watch but get the joy of indirectly paying something for it.

They can act like brats and get away with it because they'll still get paid.

Very different than the individual employee and boss relationship, where that kind of behavior will send you packing in a New York minute.

Unfortunately college sports is going the same way

One of my clients bought a professional sports franchise a few years ago. They literally made him take ownership of that city's WNBA team as well in order to approve the purchase of the "real" team he was buying.

His first encounter with the WNBA team is an entirely different story that opened his eyes to the culture of that league. He said those women acted 5x more entitled than his other team's players who are on one of the most storied and accomplished franchises in sports history.

Who is the "they" that forced him to buy the WNBA team? The league of the men's team?

Trying to figure this one out. The only NBA sales from a couple years ago are the Suns, Bucks, and Mavs and none of them would be considered storied and accomplished. The Celtics and Lakers sold this year and definitely fit that bill but weren't sold years ago.

The WNBA is funny in that while trying to break female stereotypes, as it got popular, they have gone all-in on reinforcing every single one of them

Did the wnba not pay what the players signed up to receive or something?

I find it interesting that with all of the increased attention on the WBNA because of Caitlyn Clark, more people are seeing just how bad the WBNA is. The entitlement of the players to think they are owed something not based upon the revenue the league is generating but based upon their inflated own self-worth is laughable.

He didn't say the original franchise was NBA. Looks like it was another sport where the city then foisted the WNBA franchise on the buyer.

While there are plenty of good reasons why the WNBA players don't get paid the same as men…one I'm surprised never gets mentioned is this: when the NBA got started those guys weren't rolling in the money either…..he'll even the NFL guys weren't making huge bucks…..took YEARS….

Even if people enjoyed it it'll take time to make the kind of money that the men's teams make

The LA wnba team has the same ownership group as the Dodgers. That transaction was ~10 years ago. Also, the NY wnba team has the same owners as the nets which would be my other guess.

Dodgers seems most likely, but that was 13 years ago, which I don't think anyone would consider "a few years ago" , and Nets don't qualify as storied/accomplished. Maybe it's an NHL team.

The league will turn a profit next year when their new tv deal kicks in….but that still includes the NBA subsidies.

I laughed at this news last night and did some research.

First….you are never "owed" anything in life. The league isn't withholding payments or anything.
If you want to ***** and make a point say "pay us what we're worth" or something like that.

That said, the players are likely to win their argument.

WNBA share of basketball revenue is 10%
NBA share of basketball revenue is 50%

As with any business you can pay more in G&A when you are more profitable. If you aren't turning a profit when paying 10% of your revenue to players, what makes you think there is an argument to pay them 50%?

The NBA can pay 50% of revenue to players because they are still profitable at that point.
DannyDuberstein
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Exactly. There'd be no league if they had to give 50% of revenue.

We wouldnt have Me-bounds in the zeitgeist if it wasnt for these talented gals.

And this is one of the WNBA's Superstars. That's worth at least $50k a year. A group of 14 year old boys could dominate the WNBA and that's why no one watches it.

Caitlin Clark is the only one in the league who can actually shoot. And the BGM gals hate it.

If the WNBA wan't subsidized, it would fold. How can anyone think they are worth much when the product has to be propped up to stay in business. These people are idiots.

Enough said. Nobody can name a WNBA team, or even an All-Star. The league is a joke.
