apparently I'm doing it wrong. Where are said taqueria? is it going to make me taquaerrrhea my pants?

For the Ski trips, we typically only stop in Amarillo and then somewhere around Colorado Springs for Gas. Amarillo is usually the Valero/Toot n totum on the loop or Bucees.

For RV, we do the Love's in Quanah and hope to god something is edible.

I avoid the Bucees in the RV in Amarillo - the Valero has RV pumps and parking available. There's a decent little BBQ place inside there and a Wendy's.

Next fill up is Clayton. Same Toot n Totum then onward.

I'm generally a tyrant on these road trips. We stop for gas only - that's where food can be purchased or non-RV toilet used. I'm generally trying to get out of the hellscape of the panhandle in the summer or winter as quickly as possible. Also, we do 700+ miles in a day often and I'm not about dilly dabbing around.

The asada or el pastor burritos at Taqueria Dalhart are top tier. My Wife and I used to go on dates there when we were dating. La Cabana also isn't a bad joint.

On the way up, we will typically do lunch at Rudy's in Amarillo. Takes less than 30 minutes and is a nice break with decent bathrooms and gas there as well.

We are making our first trip up to Wolf Creek/Pagosa Springs for spring break week after next. Any recommendations on good local spots for dinner? Our kids are in the chicken strips and pizza only phase of life so we typically look for a good local pizza spot or brewery. Excited to try Wolf Creek for the first time.

I ate at Rosie's Pizzeria in December and it was pretty good. Place was also packed with locals around dinner time so that's a hint it is a good option.

I've also had dinner at Tequilas on the River and it was ok food, but the views at night of the river and springs area was pretty cool.

Good to hear that I'm not the only one. Can't even my boys to eat a damn hamburger. But got my oldest (9 year old) turned on to BBQ this past weekend while we were down in Austin so I'm stoked about that. There's a great spot in the springs run by expats from Cypress that I'm gonna start bringing him along with me to.

Wow didn't know that, surprised to hear actually. Wonder if that will be different this season with the end date looking like it will be earlier this year than normal.

Be there when it opens or pizza takes like an hour to get. So hard to find workers in South Fork.

Rio Grande Club restaurant is actually pretty darn good and open to the public.

Whoa, interesting turn
Quote:

While the strike was under way, two local officials flew to Southern California.

Marti Prohaska, the mayor of Mountain Village and Meehan Fee, the mayor pro tem of Telluride, arrived at Horning's Newport Beach office. Assuring him they were acting as private citizens, they sat around his long conference table and laid out their vision for the resort's future.

"We began the conversations around a question: What would it look like if the resort were guided by a stewardship model that more fully reflected the long-term interests of the region that depends on it?" Fee recalled.

Horning said he listened politely, not entirely sure what they were getting at. When they broke for lunch, he got an email: The women were offering to buy 51% of the resort for $127.5 million on behalf of a group of investors, positioning themselves in the documents as managing partners.

A section of the contract raised Horning's eyebrows. The language appeared to promise the end of his problemsa freeze on his water rates and a brokered end to the ski strikeif he signed.

...

Days later, Horning's attorneys sent both towns formal requests for all correspondence related to the buyout deal, and made clear the offer had come from sitting municipal leaders.

In mid-January, both women resigned. In her resignation letter, Prohaska, the Mountain Village mayor, said their actions came out of "deep love and commitment" for the local community. Fee said she stepped down out of "personal safety concerns" for herself and others "as a result of threats being made."

Meanwhile, at a Jan. 15 meeting, Wisor, the Mountain Village town manager, disclosed in an executive sessionone that was meant to be private but was accidentally broadcast on YouTubethat he had, at the women's request, connected them with investors he knew. He offered his resignation, but the council took no action.

"Chuck's just going to keep on trying to come after me," Wisor said.

The Mountain Village council ended up placing Wisor on administrative leave at his recommendation, pending a town inquiry. The council recently decided to spend up to $350,000 for an outside investigation and report, including a timeline "leading up to the visit to California."

The Telluride Town Council has commissioned its own independent investigation.

Curious what your sales pitch for Winter Park would be. Never have skied it, even when we lived in CO. Kind of want to try a new mountain in the next year or two.

I know this wasn't directed at me, but we have been to WP the past 6 years, so I'll go ahead and give my two cents as well.

- I have a million Southwest frequent flyer miles, along with the companion pass, so flying somewhere without coming out of pocket is a huge plus. Denver is an easy 1.5 hours from WP. There's multiple ski resorts that are very challenging to get to when flying SW.

- WP has an incredible ski school and a great family environment around the resort.

- WP lift tickets are very fair in price.

- Snow has been plentiful each of the past 6 years.

- Lodging is very reasonably priced.

- WP has tons of good blue/black runs for my son and I. Given that we have been there multiple years now, we know the slopes like the back of our hand, which is extremely beneficial. At 10 years old, he can literally get on the gondola at the base and knows the 2-3 lifts and runs to get to the top and all the way back down.

- We did enjoy going to Breck a few years ago, but it's massive. I really prefer the smaller ski towns where you can actually get into a restaurant or brewery without having to wait an hour.

- Lots of activities to do off the mountain......tubing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, dog sledding, etc.
