Headed to Breck today. Skiing Mon-Fri. We have Epic passes, so we will bounce around to Breck, Vail, Beaver Creek and Keystone. Any suggestions on which have the best conditions? No interest in expert terrain, just blacks and below. Probably ski 4 days. May head to Denver Wednesday night to catch the Stars/Avs game.

Schweitzer held the back bowl closed yesterday so it was a free for all this morning. 17" of fresh powder. It was glorious.

Can't speak for the others but Breck was way better than expected this last week and picked up a foot and a half over the last 7 days so got a little bit of additional fill in

Just put a coat of Purl purple on the bottoms. Well, waiting for it to cool so I can scrape and brush. 5 days and I'll be on my way to WC/Purg.

Just got off the mountain at WP. Another beautiful day of skiing for our last day. Feel like we were extremely blessed the three days we were on the mountain, but the snow is definitely taking a beating. It was good for most of the day, but the last couple hours started get slushy. This coming week is going to be brutal for most all of Colorado starting on Tuesday. Highs in the mid to upper 40s and it creeps into the 60s by the end of the week. The snow is going to disappear quick and what's left will be a skating rink. Denver just started one of their three weeks of split Spring Breaks today and everything will most likely be unskiable by the end of this week.

You'll want to Go Yellow. It's gonna be 40+ degrees. Purple is for below freezing.

If it was free, I'd still probs pass honestly. I've never seen it this bad March 14th. Not when close honestly.

Like I've said I spent 1.5 years on skiis. As Bayou said, even free, pass. Folks, the season (actually the season never existed) is OVER. Move on. No more tries or hopes for skiing this year,

Just got back from 4 days at Granby Ranch. My favorite runs were closed, but they were doing a good job keeping (most of) the open runs groomed and cleaned up. Fifty degree highs 3 of 4 days with overnight freezes turned the 18" base into a crunchy slush by early afternoon each day.

On the plus side, my girls were doing significantly better than our last trip 2 year ago, with one of them fully grasping parallel turns and begging to go faster and do bigger blues.

Tiny crowds for spring break, to the point that GR was offering 25% off coupons for Spring Break for the last few weeks. Kept the lift lines short, but a small resort like GR with half the runs closed gets real repetitive after 4 days.

It's all I have right now, but thanks for letting me know. I'll have to order a block of the yellow.

1" at Beaver Creek and a nice cold spell. Should give us a couple of days of decent skiing. 68 and sunny on Friday is going to be the death knell.

Glad I brought my fly rod and waders. Looks like I'll be hitting up the tailwaters of the Blue more than the slopes.

Spent all day in the trees at steamboat yesterday. It's icy, but when there's no lines at the back bowl morningside lift, we stay there and keep exploring and lapping all day. Still had a blast six days of skiing despite the lowest base in over 40 years.

Great idea!

For anybody coming to Purgatory that wants to fish the San Juan, give me a call! I'm a full time guide on the river and San Juan Mtns (summer).

It's so windy at Purg today that they have shut down most the lifts.

Got home from our spring break trip to Big Sky last night. Only an inch or two of snow all week, but the base was solid and maybe ~10% of the terrain was closed. A warm day on Monday made for some icy conditions most of the week, but we had a blast. The two older kids crushed their first triple black and the youngest and I eased down his first double.

It's amazing to see how much they've improved with one or two trips per year (4-5 days each trip). We do put them in ski school at least 3-4 days per year, with family ski days and a private family lesson here and there. There are few things I enjoy more than watching them rip down the mountain together. And if you don't have cardo pack talk to listen to the sounds of joy and excitement your kids make while running down the mountain, you're doing it wrong!! I can't recommend it more.

I most likely past you going the other way, that didn't look fun.

I didn't look ahead at forecast or road conditions this morning before heading to Keystone for the day. Unpleasantly surprised by driving conditions and traffic. Worst part is my house in South Denver got more snow than the mountain.

Yep! We left Colorado Springs this am and drove through a white out into Denver. And then again at Loveland.

Yup. Peak SME is already here. Crazy. Never seen anything even close to it. There's always next year. Now We Just Have to survive the summer.

It was colder in Tulum over parts of Feb than Avon….

Skiing was great this morning up until about 1pm and then it turned to mashed tators on top and complete soup slush on the bottom. I think we'll call it a day early tomorrow. It's getting bad.

Peak SME looks like It's been hit the last week of February/First of March. Thats almost 75 Days early. UFF.

3/21 statewide SME is 52% of median and 7.5 inches total and dropping fast. Normally We Don't hit 7.5 SME until sometime in late May with a median peak SME of over 17. Next 10 is mostly in the 50s for highs and above freezing every night. Thats April/May weather so yeah….

At this rate, there won't be any flow left/just a trickle to raft or kayak by end of April and barring a wet wet summer, the rivers and creeks Will be closed to activities due to being too warm. Thats crazy. May aint gonna be mud month this year. Get your loving deals because everything Will be Brown by July.

No skiing - ouch
No rafting/kayak - oucher
No camping/fishing -OUCH.

Might be time to start adjusting summer plans too.

I skied Wolf Creek Friday and Purg today. Wolf creek is hold up. It was warm as F but still lots of depth on the runs and not too slushy by afternoon. I had a good time hammering some blacks and blasting down some of the blues.

Saturday, early in the AM Purg was hanging on. The front side was OK for a couple of hours but the temps rapidly rose into the low 70's and that was murder on what was left open. By afternoon it was slush and mush in so many places with streams of snowmelt flowing down a lot of the runs. You'd have to hydroplane across them in places. It was a unique experience seeing like half the mountain skiing in shorts and t's or even shirtless, and skiing on really insane slushy conditions. It won't survive past this weekend imho.

Season is winding down quick. Hopefully next year is better. Fwiw, I'm hitting wolf creek again. Tomorrow as it is hanging on so far.

Day 3 wolf creek was great. They did a good groom and the snow was great for carving down laps grom top to bottom for about 3 hours in the morning. Then it started to get a little soft and sticky in places at the bottom but up top it held up most of the day and I switched to mogul runs and trails and playing around.

I'd say 2 more weeks there and they'll have to close, as even though coverage was still pretty good, it was visibly melting off at a rapid rate. All in all a good day and I finished with a dude burger at riffraffs in PS.

What a bummer year. Off to race bikes and a bit more skiing.

If you're anywhere near Oregon/Washington, it's that time of the year to hop the gates and ride the passes car free.

  • McKenzie is fully rideable.
  • Cascade Lakes has some hike-a-bike snow areas.
  • Three Creek Lake is fully rideable.
  • Eff'ing WSDOT is already working on SR20. Insane, probably get the bike window first week of April.
Skiing Bach this week. First XC race next weekend in Madras. Palisades skiing/Mt. Whitney race last weekend of April.

Can we have a discussion about ski storage? For years my skis have just been propped up in the corner of the office; last summer I finally bought my wife skis and then added skis for the kids this season. Somewhat limited on space. Came across these and like the design concept.

https://buttonskirack.com/etsy-shop/

Curious to see what other people use. I like some of the floating designs but if they are all hung top outs it would take up too much room.

I'd like this see on this as well.

I'm just a dumb texan skiing that bought sticks to save on rentals but now have 4 sets of skis in the house.

I store them in my attic (which is probably dumb). Putting them on some pegs in the garage would be good.

What about options you see in condos and rentals? 2 pegs that stick out and you slide the skis in there and the camber is what holds them in place? I assume that's probably bad for the ski long term and not a good solution for storage.

Those wooden button things look cool. I wouldn't mind a horizontal way to keep them from hanging low...

I throw all of our ski's into the car carrier and put it in the attic until next year. Has worked for 5 seasons now.

I really like that design... Could make a pile of those with about 2 1/2" and 1 1/2" hole saws and a bunch of 1/2" plywood scrap. Then mount them on an old ski for artsyness.
