That is relevant. I believe it's a common/northern water snake, then. Definitely a water snake (nerodia) of some variety.

Agree with northern water snake. Moderately dark and older specimen, but in that area couldn't be much else.

Speaking of water snakes, here are a few from this week. Well at least the first 2, my neighbor shot me a pic of the third and no idea how big it is. The slick scales and all black eyes look different than most water snakes I have seen around here.
