Thanks for catching that, now that I look closer you are spot on. Funny part is my stepsons friend is supposed to a have a snake phobia and was afraid even being 10 feet away

This guy was trying to eat the white bass I had in the fish basket... he circled the basket bumping against it a few times before he finally saw me... must have been pretty hungry.

That's a pretty good size eastern hog nose. The one I've seen was probably around 3 1/2 to 4 feet long; it had at least a 2 1/2 to 3 inch hood. It was impressive.

Both of those ID's are the same species just different subspecies. Houston area leans "yellow-bellied" in my opinion.

I stopped and caught a rat snake in the road last night and still have the teeth marks to show for it. Little guy was feisty.

These aren't all from 2026 but they are all from my Fort Bend County yard. The rat snake in the first picture had the rabbit completely swallowed and was crawling off in about 15 minutes. I had spooked the rabbit while walking down my fence line and then heard squealing and thrashing in the vegetation so I propped my phone up a few feet away and got the whole process on film from the initial constriction to swallowing the last bit. I think the rat snake with the egg was coming out of a whistling duck nest.

I usually let venomous snakes go on their way but this cottonmouth was between me and my three year old and we were both barefoot and I happened to have a shovel in hand from killing pecan seedlings. Bad luck for him.

I'm not usually fast enough to catch the ribbon snakes but this one was weighed down from an anole shaped lump.

Went on a quick run with the kids, saw a red tailed hawk (too quick to get a picture), PBWS, and some baby ducks. They said even though it's not a snake I needed to post the duckies.

Edit to add a juvenile DBWS (I think) and a very healthy skink.

If you've ever been white bass fishing during the run, you'll know that's a pretty piddly haul. I'm not a bad fisherman but not a great one either.
