I went to Mojo Tortilla yesterday because it was on my way home. I hadn't been back since early opening. They must have gotten comments about the amount of stuff in the breakfast tacos. Early there was very little in the tacos. So I was surprised when I unwrapped and my Dirty South was loaded! And it was soooo yummy!

Thanks so much! There's been no change, but I will pass this to our team nonetheless. Sounds like your initial experience was an anomaly due to challenges with training during the opening.

Thanks again!

We tried out Sakura yesterday, the rebranded ramen place behind Snooze.

Big meh.

I ordered the black garlic ramen and the soup dumplings. Both lacked flavor and salt. Very little garlic flavor in the ramen. My friend said her spicy ramen wasn't spicy at all. We never got the iced teas we ordered.

I also noticed that their ramen descriptions use the English terms for Japanese ingredients. I'm not sure what the proper Japanese term is, but "black fungus" just doesn't sounds appetizing.

Iza Robata will continue to get my business. Tanaka is good too.

Well, I can tell you there was barely 1 strip of bacon and there was enough tortilla to make another taco. For $5, I expected more and that's why I hadn't been back.

Glad they got it right.

Does anyone have a dinner recommendation for a group of 16 (with 2 being young children)? Looking for pretty casual / Moderate price. The only places I have on my radar (due to them having private rooms) is Napa Flats (the spend requirement is likely too large), C&J BBQ (prob. best option for private room so far), Shipwreck Grill ($150 room fee probably a deal breaker) and Papa Perez (due to our size they can't guarantee not to put another large group in the room). Would like any opinions or other suggestions at this point.

Upstairs at Mr. G's or Caffe Capri downtown?

Walk-Ons. They have a private dining area that should be big enough. Very kid-friendly.

Maria Mia's and Saltgrass also have private dining areas.

It's a very nice place, but the ramen was nothing special.
They paid for their wars with your tax dollars and also with your untaxed dollars. Inflation is theft.

I drove right by there this morning and thought the posters of food in the windows do not fit the more upscale exterior.

Love Iza Robata! It has that weird 70s supper club bar vibe with that wood paneling. Everytime I'm there I expect to see some old dudes in leisure suits sitting at the bar drinking some gross fruity 70s tropical drink.

But seriously I do love their food.

I'm just glad you gave us another shot! Don't forget we start 24/7 on Monday January 12th so those of you who keep atypical hours can get Mojo Tortilla any time of day!

Had no idea that Mojo Tortilla was you, but I guess the name makes a lot more sense now! Gonna have to go check it out

treated a friend to a birthday dinner at DiMassi's. Very underwhelmed. I think it was because we went at an off time (6pm) so the items had been there for awhile. My friend said the meat was so dried out & had no flavor. I DID like the hummus & the cauliflower and a few other items.

May give them another try.

Has anyone eaten sushi at Imperial recently?

We haven't eaten there recently and are thinking about stopping in. We used to like the place…

My wife Ioves it and she's fairly particular about her sushi.

We switched from Imperial to Oishi. Geography for us and we think much more fresh.

We went to Oishi on Christmas night! We were looking for something different for dinner.

It was packed and everything we had was really good. First time to visit for me, but my son and his friends love that place.

I guess this might be the place to mention, Fuego has one of those "we've applied for a permit for alcohol" posters in the window.

I'm still curious about the old Applebees location (empty for many years now?). There was a dumpster next to it, but I could not tell if it was for whoever bought Applebees or for the housing next door to it.

Went to Monks for lunch today. Nice place inside. Had lamb vindaloo with garlic Naan and a Taj Mahal beer. All excellent and a fairly large portion. Got me sniffling and a bit of head sweat which is a good thing with Indian food. Not cheap at $18 but worth it for good vindaloo.

I think I'm going to get fat on the sandwiches from Wild Grain Cafe. The Cuban is the bomb, and the chicken salad and the turkey ones are great too. Saving the pork belly one for another time.

They are not cheap sandwiches. They are however big enough to share, easily.

Applebee's closed during COVID. If my experience with Fuddruckers circa 2019 was any indication, it was probably already on the ropes by January 2020 anyway.

It doesn't win any prizes for "longest empty restaurant" though. The nearby Jimmy John's was the empty Egg Roll House for 8+ years, Saenz Tamales was gone for like 15 years before it got knocked down, Deluxe Diner was empty for about six years...there might be others.

The story was that someone bought Applebees and was applying for an alcohol permit, but if I recall the zoning didn't permit alcohol sales (even though Applebees was selling alcoholic beverages). Looks like they have given up.

The amount of $1 drinks I had on Thursdays at Applebees in 1998...It's a miracle I'm still alive.

That's absurd since I'm sure the nearby hotel has alcohol sales, and that was built in the last past 15 years.

Also, unrelated, is T. Jin's any good? I'm looking for a cheap, decent Chinese place that's not Panda Express, just solid unpretentious Chinese takeout with good egg rolls and fried rice.

I enjoy T Jin. Not sure if you are referring to the Bryan or College Station. Dishes are not the same. I eat at both and like both but they different

We like C&C in College Station as well for great cheap Chinese.

It is absurd.

World of Beer was literally next door for years and Yesterdays is across the street. RIP Fajita Ritas.
