Careful, I got griped at earlier for posting about a pizza joint in Hearne lol.

You should. It's Hearne. The town that lost their Wal-Mart.

It was literally stolen from them.

its 15 minutes the other side of Madisonville.

Other than eating a great steak, it's ok the middle of nowhere. You get Buccees and that's about it.

It's a nice drive and after that steak I need the rest time.

If we're including Madisonville, I like Texas Legends downtown.

that's about an hour away. maybe not bad for a saturday/sunday afternoon. or maybe I'll catch it on my yearly pilgrimage to palestine (the land of Adrian Peterson).

They are only open Th, Fr, Sat.

Thursday is catfish. Friday and Saturday is steak. Or chicken for the "I don't eat red meat" crowd. There's usually a third option but it is off the posted menu.

I will say I like the steak at 1860.

Ooh I didn't even think about them. I've had one there that was fantastic.

Good call.

One of us on this thread for sure had shopped at that Walmart…. And literally, merchandise would come in on the back dock and walk out the front door….

Over what? I had it once. I'd put it behind Salt Grass and that's second tier in this area. I'd be willing to try it again because my kids love that place.

I've eaten at pretty much every steakhouse in town and 1860 beats them all out for me, only considering the steak. It's a 16oz cut and has been fantastic every time (~5) I have had it. I still enjoy the steaks from the other places but 1860 is my favorite.

I did have a steak from Saltgrass a couple weeks ago, granted it was a sirloin, and it was horrible.

Edit: I will say it's probably been a year since I have eaten the steak there.

Ok - I'll give it another try. I don't like to downplay any restaurant so I'm assuming it was just a bad night. I believe it was prom night so they were pretty packed that night.

1860 is my fav steak as well. I choose there for my bday/father day every time for the steak. I do like it at other places like the republic but just always enjoy theirs. We don't do places like Saltgrass, as if we are going to get something like a steak prefer to go to a local place over a chain. Purely personal preferences (as these things are).

I will say I have had solid steaks from there before and it won't keep me from going back. Just a bad night.

We tried Poche about a year ago for crawfish and was underwhelmed. Small and underspiced. We tried again last night during happy hour and they were fantastic. Big ole bugs with good flavor. For a bonus it was 1/2 price apps and cocktails so had great rita's for $5 each and $2.50 for an AMAZING loaf of garlic french bread. My mouth waters just thinking about it!

The special they had was 5 lbs for $7/lb which is pretty decent. We couldn't even finish it between two of us.

They open at 5:30. The line usually starts about 5:00. But it is surprisingly big inside and moves quickly. If you show up at 6:00 or 6:15 you may wait while the first tables turn over.

We've been several times. Got in line at 4:45 and had about 70 people in front of us each time. It moves fast enough that we were seated by 5:45 every time. The menu has been the same each time.

Ribeye/chicken/pork steak
Mashed red potatoes
Salad - lettuce/tomato/carrots

Steaks start at 10 ounces. We don't eat much, so we had lots of leftovers the first trip. After we got our food, the table next to us ordered. Found out you can order a larger steak to split. $1/oz in 2 oz increments. Now we split a 14-16 oz steak. Substantially less expensive.

If you order a 16oz steak, you may get 18 or 19. You won't get shorted that's for sure.

The former poke place on Rock Prairie which is now a poke and Thai place, Bangkok Street Food, is a little hole in the wall gem. Its in the same strip as Iza Robata Ramen.

I also noticed that their ramen descriptions use the English terms for Japanese ingredients. I'm not sure what the proper Japanese term is, but "black fungus" just doesn't sounds appetizing.

Would you have preferred "wood ear"?

That is our go-to Poke place but I didn't know that had Thai. How is the Curry?

There's also a Poke place in the little strip center between Tad's and the Exxon - at the back nearest to Lowes. I've been thinking about trying it, anyone else been there?

My 38-week pregnant wife had a craving for Chili's today. We hadn't been in 4-5 years. It was great. Bacon cheeseburger and chicken crispers were fantastic. Service was very quick and almost overly polite.

Just one of those "always been there" places that we never really even think about.

I am one of those people that when I lived in Austin didn't care for Chilis. I liked their Buffalo Chicken Salad and that's it. Now? The husband and I keep talking about how we need to go to Chillis.

Chili's is going to really be happy with the PR they are getting here, but I'll chime in. Our back porch TV gave up it's ghost a couple weeks ago, and with an Aggie baseball coming on later that day, there was no time to waste. We headed for Best Buy to pick up a new TV and needed to eat lunch. Since Chili's was right there, we decided to go there, for the first time in 10+ years. We also got burgers and they were delicious. We probably could have split one to be honest. We will definitely be back.

ON a similar note, Outback used to be a once-a-month place for us but once Saltgrass opened close to our house, it turned into more of a twice a year place (Outback). We went on a whim back in December and had a great experience. Food quality had dropped off but everything we ordered was great. We've been back several times since. If you haven't been lately, give them another try.

I don't know that it did or didn't, just saw the sign. I'll check this weekend when I go to Lowes.
