Torchy's is running a buy one get one free taco special for teachers (gotta show ID) from May 6-8.

Unsure if "teachers" includes "professors."

Other than the occasional cold taco I've never had issues with the place. Certainly not as good as your basic mom and pop hole in the wall taqueria, and certainly better then quite a few other places.

There's a lot of people out there that love tortillas that taste like cardboard. Bad tortilla=bad taco

They were amazing when they had just started in the trailer. We used to order from the hospital and Mike would deliver to us after the lunch rush.

I had Torchy's for lunch.

Rarely have them, but they are close to my office.

It's not amazing but it was quick and easy to grab.

Do I need to swing some Fuego by on my way back to my office?

I do wish Mojo Tortilla Co. was closer as I prefer their tortillas but Fuego is closer and is very consistent.

Food poisoning twice at Fuego. May the odds forever be in your favor there.

Tacobar is very good. That, Taco Crave, and Mi Tierra are my go tos. Torchy's is occasional, when they are pushing a new taco. I miss the fried catfish one they did.

I don't think I've ever had food poisoning...how do you distinguish that?

I have never shat so much in an eight hour period than when I had food poisoning.

It was the day I was moving out of the house that I bought at 25 years old. My poor now husband essentially had to pack everything up himself, because I would go shat them literally walk the eight steps to my bed and lay down and immediately get back up within 30 seconds to go back to the bathroom. This happened nonstop for 7-8hours.

Finally at like 4 PM I realized hey maybe I should go eat something cause I finally had stopped. We get in the car that's parked on the side of my house and immediately open the door back up and puked on the side of the house.

I don't remember if it was KFC or Churches, but I haven't had either since. That was 20 years ago.

Yeah, I've had that but every time I went to the doctor or urgent care for that, it was the flu or a stomach bug. I don't think a doctor has ever said it's food poisoning. That's why I'm curious.

Ok - I don't want to derail this anymore but from what I understand from. doctors, if you have actual food poisoning, you're probably going to need an iv at some point. I've never had a doctor tell me I had food poisoning.
I once ate at an airport in San Jose and then sat in the bathroom in the airplane throwing up the whole time. When we landed, I couldn't walk. I was like 30 years old. They had to cart me out to baggage in a wheel chair and then dropped me off to get a cab. I laid on the ground waiting for one. Cabbie threw me in the car. When we got to my house, he had to help me get to my couch. I slept for like 16 hours. Got up, stumbled to bathroom and proceeded to throw up. I had a friend take me to the ER because I couldn't drive. I spent 4-5 hours getting fluids until they told me to go home (with a stomach bug was diagnosis). I was still sick for several days in bed. Never been that sick. It felt like food poison but I remember the doc laughing saying it was just a bug. I'll never forget his laugh.

I would hazard - and that hazard is real - that the vast majority of food poisoning victims misidentify the source of their food poisoning. But I'm right - Patients generally do not accurately identify the source of their foodborne illness, and several lines of evidence suggest that self-attribution is unreliable for multiple reasons.

Why patients typically blame the wrong food

The most common error is the "last meal" bias " patients tend to blame the most recent meal before symptom onset. However, incubation periods for common foodborne pathogens vary widely and are often much longer than patients assume:[1]

- Preformed toxins (S. aureus, B. cereus): 2"7 hours " the only scenario where the last meal is plausibly correct[2]

- C. perfringens: 8"14 hours[2]

- Norovirus: ~32 hours median[1]

- Salmonella: ~45 hours median (range commonly 12"96 hours, sometimes up to 9 days)[3]

- Campylobacter: ~62 hours median[1]

- STEC (E. coli O157): ~87 hours median[1]

- Hepatitis A: ~672 hours (28 days) median[1]

This means that for most common pathogens, the culprit meal was consumed 1"4 days before symptoms, not at the most recent meal.

Evidence on recall accuracy

Research on dietary recall during outbreak investigations demonstrates significant inaccuracy. A prospective study comparing observed food consumption to patient-reported food histories found the predictive value of a positive response was only 0.73"0.82 " meaning even when patients report eating a specific food, they are wrong 18"27% of the time.[4] A German validation study using electronic payment records found recall sensitivity of only 73% (patients forgot 27% of foods actually consumed), with accuracy declining by approximately 8% per additional day of recall.[5] Notably, experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms did not improve dietary recall accuracy.[6]

Additional sources of misattribution

- A UK general practice study found that isolation of fecal pathogens was not associated with patients' suspicion of food poisoning " patients who suspected food poisoning were no more likely to have a confirmed pathogen than those who did not.[7]

- Only about 2% of patients who self-reported food poisoning had their illness confirmed by a healthcare professional.[8]

- Most cases of acute diarrhea in non-traveling adults lack an identifiable cause entirely, and only about 36% of all diarrheal illness is estimated to be foodborne.[9]

- Patients frequently attribute illness to restaurant meals or "unusual" foods, while the actual most common sources " produce (46% of defined cases) and leafy greens (22%) " are often overlooked.[9][10]

Clinical implications

When taking a food history, clinicians should ask about all foods consumed over the preceding 3"7 days rather than focusing on the last meal. The incubation period, clinical syndrome (vomiting-predominant vs. diarrhea-predominant vs. bloody diarrhea), and epidemiologic context (travel, shared meals, outbreaks) are more reliable guides to the likely pathogen and source than patient self-attribution.[11][12]

Would you like to explore how incubation period and clinical syndrome can be used systematically to narrow the likely pathogen in a specific case of suspected foodborne illness?

Hi

Respectfully, as both an owner of the real estate as well as the tenant restaurant, I am going to have to defend this, as I hear it from time to time.

Mojo Tortilla Co. location characteristics

1) direct right turn off northbound Texas ave
2) direct and dedicated median cut left turn southbound Texas ave.
3) feeder road access from Burger King
4) Burger King actually has fairly robust traffic, believe it or not, and Texas ave. patrons have to go THROUGH our property to access it.
5) better access than Texas ave Sonic in front of Walmart
6) better access than Texas ave Chick fila, Cane's (both of them require driving through a parking lot or access street)
7) better access than the Dominick Whataburger (no left turn from Texas and Dominick is a side street subordinate to Texas ave)
8) better access than Fuego for similar reasons.

Now, one could argue that the GEOGRAPHICAL location of Mojo Tortilla Co is subordinate to some of these listed, and that would be a sensible point. Still, Mojo Tortilla Co. is located on the right side northbound of the biggest and busiest arterial in the city. Consequently, that's why we crafted a breakfast/24 hr forward concept to capitalize on that.

Lastly, and most importantly, it's working! We have great business and its growing weekly.

I'm gonna argue that Fuego is in a far worse location and it does amazing. Mojo for me for breakfast is very convenient because I passed right by it.

Lunch not as convenient, but I generally don't go down that far from Campus during lunch.

Costas - my only complaint is your napkins. I can't stand thin napkins like that lol I feel like I use way more. But your food is awesome.

And easy peasy to leave no matter what direction you are heading as long as you know what to do.
