I was just watching some guy talking about beer on social media, and he said Texas (not Houston specifically) ranked 48th in the number of breweries per capita. That kind of surprises me.

But we do have the 6th most breweries. There are just ALOT of people in Texas and a good chunk of them aren't the microbrew crowd.

Anyone ever try Houston Beer Co brewery across from White Oak Music Hall? Never been myself. Thoughts on this place?

This one is tough to see, being a regular there. Last day open is July 5th, if you're in the area I highly recommend grabbing a cali burrito before they close. Great food and even better people.

That location just can't hold a tenant.

Drift Bar on 20th has announced closure. That's a bit interesting.

That's gotta be a huge financial mismanagement on someone's part. They seemed to have solid crowds since opening.

Wasn't one of the owners associated with the Greeks that owned Pub Fiction and those other places?

Just read through some of the comments: Apparently this is how the employees found out too.

Agreed on that being surprising, didn't go there many times, but it was always jammed up every time I was in there.

Their replies to the comments are a little curious. "I thought they were doing well." "So did we"

I saw someone say a new management bought them at least six months ago and intend to open under a new concept. Someone mentioned the group that owned Cle.

Now whoever is running the Instagram page is acting in complete shock and saying it was out of nowhere.

I went when it was Shepherd Park, and it just seems like a tight space for anything other than takeout.

My uninformed guess is that it's hard to make rent with people hanging out sipping pints and snacking.

I won't be surprised if one my favorite spots closes by the end of the year, even though they look busy a lot of the time. People hanging out and drinking moderately don't generate a ton of profit when area rents are shooting up.

Interesting on Drift. Sounds like a concept change.

Anyone seen anything on the El Tiempo on 20th? Did some Google searching and can't find anything of substance.

Sounds like it might have been a joint venture between the Cle Group and El Tiempo and stalled out.

I know I'm getting old when I don't recognize the name of any of the bars in my old neighborhood. Let alone those bars are now closing.

I was wondering the same thing and noticed that the 'coming soon' El Tiempo sign has been taken down.

How long have you been gone? Drift has been there at least 5 years, IIRC it was one of the first big bars to open in the 19th/20th street bar boom or whatever you want to call it.

Wow, then you definitely wouldn't recognize the area. The Boot was probably still Shady Tavern back then.

haha yup. That one changed not too long after moving away. I used to get chinese food from Golden Cafe. Crazy to think that is now a place people choose to hang out.

Yep, it was the first patio bar to go up after McIntyre's.

How long has Shady Acres Saloon been around and what was it before?

Was it just a regular old house? Seems like it's been there forever but I don't remember it until everything else came around.

I know it has been Shady Acres since before covid, so 6-7 years at least. Don't remember it being anything before that.

I used to love that place. It was falling apart, but the food was always solid for what it was. It was up there with Fu's Garden imo.

The Boot was previously Shady Acres Icehouse and had been there forever.

I can't remember what Shady Acres Saloon was before.

First few times I went, I just assumed it had been there forever. Then one day I realized that had it been there forever, I'd gone long before.

Such a riddle.

It was a non-distinct commercial building that I probably drove by for years without noticing. All those small buildings in the back and on the side were rent houses.

I just use google street view to go back in time. It goes back to '08 for most streets.

Just did some research and looks like the pre-Boot was Shady Tavern Ice House.

I remember there being Ice House in the name but forgot it was Tavern and not Acres.

One of the owner partners mentioned in that article is a friend of mine. He's been very committed to getting everything ready so they can open early next year.

I have to go back in time on google street view sometimes to see what places used to be. Then realize I drove by it a million times without noticing.

*wait, am I replying to an old comment on an old thread I already replied to?

Good deal. There have been a few different things that were supposed to go in there after Petrol closed, but none of them actually happened.

Also, the new Texadelphia at 34th and Shepherd is supposed to open today.

Multiple concepts with lots of restaurant experience couldn't find a way to make the rent ask and the lack of parking work with a viable market study.

I hope these guys succeed, but unless they got a huge rent break (they hadn't budged on ask in years) and a long contract, the deck is stacked against them with that location.
