This one was much more accurate in my opinion.

It is in pounds so I automatically like it better

That's a big reason but the results were also way more friendly - for me at least.

I agree. The link that I posted is based on competition numbers. The second link is based upon lifts entered by Strength Level users.

Mixed in a small sprint workout on my offday between lifting, sprinting with a sled for part of it. Was pleasantly surprised it did not impact my legs on my squat workout yesterday.

Going to try to work it in 2 days a week. Took me maybe 10 minutes.

It shouldn't as sled sprinting is largely concentric muscle action.

My concerns are more from a general overall fatigue standpoint. Late 30s and I can only push my body to do so many things in a week and expect to keep making gains on my lifts. But I think if I find the sweet spot on volume with these it'll be a net benefit.

Late 30's? *****, please. : )

I say this, of course, without knowing the rest of your program, but I would think a few sled sprints with light loads a couple of times per week should be fine.

Well, all I know for certain is that I don't recover in my late 30s like I did in my late 20s!

I'm running a pretty high volume 5/3/1 template, but I've been feeling really good on it. I go for a walk with a weighted vest on my off days so my cardio isn't totally trash.

But I have been sucking wind on some of my heavier sets and have been reading a lot about the benefits of sprinting for heavy lifting so I wanted to give it a try. And getting it done in under 15 minutes is great bang for my buck, which is exactly the kind of stuff I'm looking for at this point in my life.

Be careful with the sprinting. You'd hate to pull a hammy.
Is all sled work sprinting or do you push and drag heavier weights, too?

Total distance for each is about 20 yards. I'm doing a warmup, 4 sprints, then a light jog with the sled (17 pounds) 4 times, then 6 sprints with the sled + 25 pounds.

It isn't much but I wanted to work that in for a few weeks and see how it fit before I change anything. I probably won't add weight, just more reps.

I would prefer to do hill sprints instead but I know the likelihood of me getting to a hill consistently is low, so I'd rather program in something I know is easily accessible and repeatable so I can track it.

Edit to add: I do drag/pull the sled on occasion on off days but I'd say that is probably once every other week.

So, no real sprinting like track, correct? I think you're far less likely to injure yourself that way.

Maybe have one day dedicated to sled sprints and one dedicated to long drags?
CC09LawAg

Correct - this is all in grass in the yard.

That is a good idea - I usually set a 15 minute timer for the pulls/drags I do so timewise it ends up being about the same.

Don't doubt yourself though. I'm late 30s and am stronger right now than I have ever been in my entire life and naturally. I've also been lifting for over 20 years so this isn't some newbie gains deal and I have always been weak - I've been naturally strong most of my life.

Recovery does take longer and I need to be smarter on my lifts but I'm not getting any weaker.

On Thanksgiving of 2015, my wife and I pushed and dragged 2x our respective weights 1 mile to make room for turkey and whatnot.

I need to get a proper sled, it's on my very long list of gear to acquire. This little one does the job but I'd probably use a big one a lot more.

Oh, trust me I think I'm almost delusional about my goals. I'm hoping to hit a 1500 pound total early next year. I keep waiting to hit a wall and it just slowly keeps going up.

If anything I may not be pushing hard enough, but I'm taking it slow and easy. I don't see the need to try to push too hard and fry myself.

I'm not sure where you're located but I have a couple Rogue sleds in my parents' garage here in San Antonio that I don't use anymore.

Oh man - what style and how much? I get to SA often.

Rogue Dog Sled 1.2. I sill have the dragging strap but I'll have to check on the pulling rope.

I have a Torque Tank M1 I'm thinking about selling. I love it but I've been on a space-optimization kick in my garage gym. I'm in SA. They are pricey but if you want to sled on the street in a subdivision they are really nice.

If CC09 doesn't end up wanting it I'd be interested in buying one. I am in SA.

On another note, first StrongLifts workout today. Man I am weak on the squat! 115 was a challenge. Mainly focused on good technique. I bench more than I squat.

Back to this number today after I decided to drop to a beginning number. Crushed it. Felt much easier than when I first did it. My technique was better and my heart rate was lower. Also, I am much less sore.

The folks on this thread are awesome. Thanks for advising me to start low. Gonna keep on rolling.

Awesome!

3 weeks goes by fast. And next time you have to deload instead of it feeling like a bummer or a setback you can remember this and you'll know that backing off every once in awhile is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Now that I think about it, I also have 2 wall-mounted squat racks in storage.
bam02
How long do you want to ignore this user?
If you are wanting to sell those I might think about it. I have a full cage I like but I always lift outside the rack. I thought I would always lift inside so that's why I went with it but like I said above I am looking at ways to free up space.
