There's not a single thing you can do about how much or little the team wins.

If you go for such reasons, you might as well light your money on fire.

As to the op- this is the major change in this board. It used to be a community. Now it's obsessive fans who pout about not getting the outcomes they want but cannot effect.

Man I'm loving A&M Football, these days! Elko's been here 18 months and we've got a 92.23 avg recruit ranking with 20+ Blue Chip's committed. And this is calculated recruiting, not just blind offers to the Top 30. Probably helps that I'm an Elko Fan, from his years as our DC, but you losers are nuts.. If you aren't looking forward to the 10th, 11th, 14th, 18th you're missing out.. Brown, Ford, Watkins, Wilson, Womack..... the future of this team. We've just landed the #2 DL, with a favorable chance of landing the #1 in 3 days. From a common sense perspective, it's hard to believe Aggie Football is this far along just 18 months after a $76 million Dumpster Fire.

We haven't won anything yet.
Good start, encouraging, but it is just that.
A&M went 5-3 (Conf) with an eleventh hour scramble for portal players to fill spots in 2024. Did you expect to go 8-4? I certainly did not... Can you believe the idiots on here whining because we went 8-4? Will we go 8-4 this year? It's going to be tough, Notre Dame (@ ND), Florida, LSU (@LSU), Texas (@TU),........ Arkansas (@AR), Missouri (@Mizz). Our first Big Beautiful Recruiting Class is still in High School and they're our 2026 depth. Is that what you mean by "Hold your horses"? Just because I'm very optimistic about A&M Football doesn't mean I've forgotten we're in Elko's 2nd year. Somehow Elko & Co are convincing these recruits, headed for Texas, Bama, Georgia, Ohio St, LSU, Clemson, that A&M is the place to be....

I'll aggree with you on the average age. The daily users who've been here are older and probably don't have the time they used to to spend in the zoo.

And they haven't been replaced with younger, more creative types who would keep the board fresh

It has become a pot banging doomers paradise. It didn't used to be that way. It seems to me that the fans feel entitled to winning something as if they have any control whatsoever. Its turned into a playground for those that envy what they do not have.

It used to be an Aggie board- a group of fans that stuck by their team no matter. Every other teams sucks, because **** them, that's why. Now it's ad-nauseum *****ing.

Years and years, you drive for hrs in one direction for each game. Flights to catch Aggie football games, lots of money and time spent.

You do start to feel entitled because the ROI has been so poor. Many of us are ready for more and not satisfied with winning at half-time
Well then take a break from A&M Football for a while, maybe follow Georgia, Bama, or go fishing. Come back in ~2027, when you can enjoy it or call for Elko's resignation.

I'm just glad Texags has stayed on top of technology. While other sites can embed TikTok, SnapChat or Instagram videos, on Texags, we can do Vines!

I'm pretty sure Vine shut down just before Trumps inauguration. . . the one in 2017.

to me the downer...

is trying to win or expecting to win without elite WR's -- that are needed for a high-level passing game

otherwise the run the ball, control the clock, play good defense approach = 8-4

NIL, bad coaching, and bad moderating by Texags Staff. Those 3 things.

When you have obvious trolling and the staff refuses to take out the trash, you have a board that's not fun anymore. If I want to go to a site trashing Aggies, I'll just go to SEC Rant. the Aggie Spirit is DEAD on this board, because the rot was allowed to stick.

The majority opinion for this forum appears to be that we won't be good this year. The optimists probably won't be having fun on this board till that changes.

In the past you would have to wade through several bad topics to find a thread with actual real football discussion. But now if a thread even tries to do that one it just gets overrun with what I stated earlier. So, my guess is the few that used to try and talk real football on here just moved on bc it was not worth even trying.

It's the only forum to have a nickname. "The Zoo". And for good reason.

Good for you... Aggie Football Games should be saved to your Library anyway. I watch them the next morning, typically doing film study on them. Now my griping comes halfway through the season when we can't make a basic open field tackle. Elko definitely spoke for me after the USC Game, he'd better keep his guarantee that we'll (he will never watch a defense like that again"! I won't be moving back to Texas, my hobbies have become fly fishing, duck hunting, living where rivers and streams don't dry up.

I have noticed a decrease in participation on the football board. Elko started 7-1 (5-0 SEC) before losing 4 of his last 5 games, including 3 consecutive losses to end the season. Our only win in that span was over New Mexico State, and we have lost 4 consecutive games to Power 4 opponents since a 38-23 win over LSU on 10/26. Dating back to a 42-30 road loss at LSU on 11/25/2023, we have lost 4 consecutive November SEC games and 2 bowl games for 6 consecutive losses to Power 4 opponents in November or later. We have not won a Power 4 game in November or later since a 51-10 home win over Mississippi State on 11/11/2023 and a bowl game since a 41-27 win over North Carolina in the 2021 Orange Bowl on 1/2/2021.

The new NIL rules, the transfer portal, and conference alignments have turned major college sports into professional-like leagues. The conference leaders are prioritizing TV network revenue over the welfare of athletes and fans. The athletes are no longer students, and college education has become an afterthought. Many traditions have been eliminated. The only sustainable solution is to implement multi-year contracts and penalties for breaking them. Still, I will stay interested in the major Aggies sports until I die. My excitement level fluctuates, but I will never lose interest.

My overall #1 reason for apathy is because of the fook sticks over in asstin are now in the SEC. F sankey

NIL has done the typical fanbase no favors

The big build-up of the jimbo hire followed by his eventual apathy to locker room and program rules allowed the inmates to start running the asylum. His guaranteed extension was a historic F up by the power players that still run this program today.

I like the Elko hire. Last year there was a mess of emotional things rattling around the locker room and the entire program. This year, Elko should have a better locker room mindset that will allow the players to work in his system much more than last year.

Last year there were players that probably had no business being on the field and Elko did a pretty good job of manuevering through that minefield.

I'm willing to give Elko the benefit of the doubt because this year he should not have any 11th hour surprises at the beginning of the season.

This is different.

We were always mediocre...but I still got super amped for recruiting every year and drank the kool-ade every summer.

NIL and free agency have destroyed the sport. If it isn't fixed, it will wither and die because whatever magic it used to have is a shadow of its former self. I can't even bring myself to pay for premium anymore.

I'd rather eat taco bell once a month than read and wring my hands over who the next mercenary is that's going to shake us down for cash and then bail after one season

The Kool Aid will start flowing again. A natty or getting into the CFP would be fantastic. Through the years since 1982 I've seen amazing games and amazing teams and hope to again. But through all the mediocre seasons and pi$$ poor seasons, I can't help but look forward to what has been put together in the off season to start fresh again. Team loyalty by the players isn't gone, just isn't what it used to be before portal and NIL. I'm sure several players aren't as loyal to A&M as to their potential NIL but SOME are. Either way I'll be yelling my can off at all the home games for the guys in maroon. I love football and I bleed maroon. I don't visit the boards as much anymore with all out free agency. Other than those drafted, we haven't seen mass exodus. So maybe Elko & company are bucking the trend at least for now. Why not give it a chance before folding?

Jimbo Fisher had the same regular season record and SEC record in his first year, but he won his last 2 SEC games against Ole Miss and LSU and the bowl game for a 9-4 (5-3 SEC) finish. I think most people would have found an 8-4 (5-3 SEC) regular season record more acceptable if we didn't lose our last 3 SEC games and our bowl game for an 8-5 (5-3 SEC) finish while playing inconsistently on both sides of the ball. If the losses had been sprinkled around or we had lost early before finishing strong, I think people would have had a better outlook.

Our schedule is very unbalanced with 3 straight SEC home games against Auburn on 9/27, Mississippi State on 10/4, and Florida on 10/11 before a stretch of 3 straight SEC road games against Arkansas on 10/18, LSU on 10/25, and Missouri on 11/8 in a span of 4 weeks. With that schedule, I think we will have a floor of 7-5 (4-4 SEC) and a ceiling of 10-2 (6-2 SEC) with probable road losses at LSU and Texas. The toss-up games against Notre Dame (away), Florida (home), Arkansas (away), Missouri (away), and South Carolina (home), will make or break our season.

I am predicting a 9-3 (7-0 home and 2-3 away) with losses to Notre Dame, LSU, and Texas. If we finish 8-4 with at least one November SEC win and then win our subsequent bowl game for a 9-4 finish, it will be a much better finish than ending last season with 4 consecutive losses to Power 4 opponents. This is my minimum expectation for Elko's second year.

It's hard to compare coaches, especially 1st year, when so many variables are involved like the teams we play or the players inherited, NIL. Fisher ended that first season with Ole Miss & LSU, Elko's ended against Auburn & Texas. Fisher's first season started with some pretty good players, Mond & receivers (Kendricks in that last game), an OL. Fisher inherited some 5 star talent that hadn't been coached or couldn't be coached. That's what I'm looking for this year, defenders understanding containment & playing under control so that RB's aren't running wild downfield. I don't know if Klein or Bateman are the choice coordinators, it's not my job too. I'm hoping for a great season, however my expectations will go up with each Elko Class.

For me, it's not nil: I'm fine with players getting paid; for me it's the portal and the free transfer

I makes it hard to get excited about good young players developing because you are worried they will just transfer. And then when you have productive veterans you have to worry about them getting getting plucked by the highest bidder

It just makes it not worth the same level of emotional investment anymore when you reAlize that you could have a 50% roster turnover from year to year between graduations, early nflers and transfers

I love how Elko is recruiting and I'm hoping his culture changes plus the new settlement rules will mitigate some of the transferring and bring us some extra wins

Cheo
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think this is just a combination of the process of going through life and aging, the transfer portal, and NIL.

I used to follow recruiting closely, and became a premium member after graduating in 2011. I wasn't in that board for too long because my handle got perma banned by L00chi. As I've gotten older, I've reduced my interest in recruiting. I think this is natural for many (family, life, work, other responsibilities), but accelerated by the constant lack of winning throughout the years.

I've always been a believer that players should get paid some compensation for their labor, since the schools make so much money off of them. It just feels like nothing means anything anymore. "Oh **** we got a top 5 class". "Ah **** Bobbie the 5 star transferred because X school offered him 1 million dollars more". Why even get excited about recruiting? The best part of recruiting for me was the belief of continuity. "Oh this dude is going to be in our program for some years. We are going to build something here." That's gone forever. To a sense, capitalism ruined college football. It doesn't mean anything anymore. Dudes leave championship winning teams to go play somewhere else with more money. Again, they should get paid but the bandaid was ripped with no point of return. All this plus the message board concept being left in the dust when it comes to social media, etc, is why I think we see reduced volume and participation across boards in TexAgs.
