Your only live tv streaming options that I can see are:

- YTTV
- Disney Hulu
- Disney Fubo
- DTV
- Sling
- Philo: never heard of this.

Philo and Frndlytv are Non Sports Non News apps that have Hallmark, UPTV, Great American Family etc.

That said, I got the New FOX One/ESPN Unlimited bundle for $40.

I saw that FOX One/ESPN bundle. May go for that if YouTube TV doesn't get ESPN/SEC back

When do we get Starlink TV?

All joking aside, satellite TV as we know it will end sooner than many folks expect. DirecTV has already come out and said they aren't launching any more satellites to replace what's up there now. Once the current fleet is done (likely in 5-10 years), it's lights out. Streaming only. I don't follow Dish as closely but wouldn't be surprised if they do the same. The costs to put a new bird in geostationary orbit are astronomical.

Most rural satellite TV subscribers are going to find themselves having to sign up for a streaming service over Starlink in any case, soon.

Old man here, class of '72. How do you pause your account. Do you have to call or is there a way to do it online?

Yeah, I'm considering telling them to both **** off! But since we just paid them a week ago, I'll get their service for a week or two longer, and perhaps the $20 rebate, then they can go to blazes.

Here is what I think the best live TV setup now is which saves you from having to spend >$100 on a full live TV guide at one of the four carriers:
- Digital antenna: gets you local channels for free
- ESPN/Fox Bundle: all sports that matter (you also get FNC, Fox Weather, and Fox Business with this, if you care about it)

- Optional: base Hulu (not Hulu Live); gets you backlog of pretty much any TV show you ever want to watch.

Additional Content:
- Get whatever other stand-alone content specific app you want

We are flat out beholden to Disney at this point for sports but you can at least mitigate your spend with them by doing above.

How is Disney not a functional monopoly as it pertains to college sports?

Because federal law gives it the right to negotiate. Why is YTTV not a functional extension of their google search monopoly?

I'm guessing because there is Fox Sports, CBS Sports, tons of regional sports platforms, etc.

Disney's strategy appears to be working: drive consumers to Hulu+Live TV. The problem is they can't make up for the lost revenue of ESPN from the loss of the live bundlers like YTTV. ESPN gets a fee for each subscriber, and most subscribers don't watch sports! Disney will eventually have to raise rates substantially to make up for it.

I hate the Mouse more than I hate Google, so I'll stick with YTTV and add a temp option to get my college football, which is all the sports I consume.

If they do not reach an agreement by this weekend I will just party like it is 1994 and listen on the radio (or setup my antenna that is in a box somewhere in the house)

I just paused YTTV and signed up for the $30/mo Disney+/HULU/ESPN bundle for the next 3 months and once college football is over, I'll cancel it all. I don't watch TV in the traditional sense. I get all the movies/shows I need on Netflix/Prime/Paramount+

I would prefer them to offer a more composable service so I could buy what I want to buy. i.e. In our household we only need Sports for me and Bravo for the wife which I can get by buying lower cost individual streaming service.

I would pay a premium for those two and they can collect higher margins as a prefer the YTTV UI. But they do not, so I cancelled and will deal with a clunkier UI for $50 less a month.

All I would ask.

If all you need is Bravo, just subscribe to the Bravo streaming app.
For sports, you do the espn fox sports streaming app, peacock for nbc sports and paramount plus for cbs sports (or maybe they have a cbs sports streaming app)

Maybe bc there are multiple near perfect substitutes to YTTV?

All I'm saying is that the fact that this is forcing people to completely change tv providers to watch sports gives me the sense that Disney has way too much power in the market.

Do we know the contract status Disney has with the other streaming services? My concern would be that I switch and 3 months down the road, this same thing happens to a different streaming service.

This is the problem. Disney should never have been allowed to buy all the properties and take control of the market like they have.

I have spent HOURS trying to do a side-by-side comparison of the various streaming services.

https://www.suppose.tv/tv USED to be great for comparing the offerings based on desired channels, but even that does not get updated with current contract disputes.

But channel selection is not the only feature to consider. There is also

  • Allowing multiple profiles of family sharing (Youtube.tv does this - I haven't found ANY others that offer this
  • The ability to multi-stream different games (litterally 4 games on the screen at the same time)
  • when setting the recording, allowing to switch from 1 show to another... and pick up the previous show at the point you left off
  • The ability to customize the channel lineup into an order that makes sense for each viewer
(Youtube.tv does this - I have not found any other service that offers anything close to it)
I hate that YTTV is having the contract dispute. But it will get resolved. And for me, no other streaming service even comes close to having the features I like.

I wish there was a place that offered unbiased side-by-side comparisons of not just the channel lineups, but also the features.

I hear ya, but if you look at cbs, nbc, etc. they own multiple properties also, Warner Brothers and MGM are now negotiating to become one and they will have a portfolio of products also. There are cable companies negotiating to join each other.

End of the day, if we weren't talking about college football no one would care- and wouldn't even have a clue about who owns what. Thus stuff didn't just happen last Saturday, it's been going on for at least a decade.
