What's the rule on that handball in the box? Away from the body, not a deflection off of head or anything, just inadvertent?

No one even knows anymore. I've seen that given so much that I am shocked they didn't even go to the monitor.

I know LaLiga is harsher but outside of an intentional handball I'm a bit lost on why you'd call anything if not that.

It's different in la liga, in champions league, in EPL, in Bundesliga, week to week. Day to day. Who knows. No rule has been reinterpreted more. That's why I say no one knows. The refs don't even know.

No way you can convince me that there was conclusive evidence Alvarez double hit that penalty.

Lady on the broadcast said they used the offside technology along with the cameras to see the ball move before is right foot it.

Also I'm with Henry you can see the ball lift just before he kicks it.

Another great example of something in the game that was never meant to be officiated that tightly.

Real madrid is the only team in the world that gets the benefit of that call
Had the roles been reversed it would have never been reviewed

Oh well, yet another cruel ending for atleti

This reminds me of that super slow motion texas tech shot that got blocked in the championship game a few years back and was called out on tech.

Nothing about that handball in the box in the first half? Surprise surprise.

They can use all the technology they want. There is still a margin of error with all technology that for some reason we just don't acknowledge anymore because the technology we use has the letters "AI" in front of it and people pitch it and use it as if it's 100% accurate. That .25mm movement of the ball .025 ms before the ball was kicked easily falls into that margin of error. That movement could easily not have been caused by actual direct contact with the ball.

It's similar to when we say "oh, he's clearly offside" when the offside camera shows that the nub of his elbow is off. When the margins are that small, they are absolutely within the margin of error that your technology is based on. The technology can not identify the exact moment the ball leaves the passers foot at the molecular level (which is effectively what we are going towards) nor should it.

This x infinity. Obvious handball that's just casually brushed away. Until Alvarez's ruling (which was correct, you can see the unnatural flight of the ball), RM hasn't gotten a beneficial call this entire season. Plus, that comment's from the resident Barca fan, and we all know how favorable the refs treat that club.

Anyway, HALA MADRID!

Hey I have made the case several times that instant replay has been a net negative in my opinion in American sports and would do the same for soccer. This right here is what happens once we get replay.

It doesn't just fix the egregious how could they have missed man city offside by 4 feet against Cardiff City mistakes. It turns all games and plays into this.

I watched that over a dozen times zoomed in.

There is no way they can definitively say one way or another.

And I don't have any skin into who wins.

I'm not sure if it was the UEFA released one, but it was a zoom in on the ball. NOt the one on this thread.

Just watched this one, I still can't definitively say one way or another. I think he might've hit it with both feet, but I don't know he did.

If the burden is think, then yeah.

Use the same technology to determine that the pk kicker didn't continue a continuous movement and then we can talk.

It is funny that had Real Madrid lost, we would rightly be discussing the lack of review on the handball and why Lenglet was not sent off for his foul. The rule being that if no attempt is made on the ball it should be a red.

But instead it's all about the disallowed penalty.
