saw some aggies (& former ones) in wpsl action. wanted to share.

hoang--looks really, really good. lightning quick. making plays all over the field. finished a highlight goal off a cross from former aggie yolinsky. she should be in the starting lineup based on what we saw from the spring squad.

patterson--continues to be a lock down defender. was probably our best signing this year. gets in a little trouble when she tries to create too much. but overall i can't see how she's not one of the top defenders in the sec this fall

bacerra--looks much fitter and quicker. she may have lost 15 pounds since the fall.

yolinsky--looks like a completely different player from the spring. calm, clean, and creating a lot of scoring opportunities for herself and teammates (assist to hoang was awesome)

Quote:

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION The Texas A&M soccer team bolstered its backline with the addition of former California Baptist defender Mia Scranton, head coach G Guerrieri announced Monday.

Scranton helped the Lancers post a 0.84 goals against average and 15 shutouts the last two seasons while playing under the tutelage of current Aggie assistant coach Tim Strader. During that time Cal Baptist posted a 21-9-9 (.654) record and earned a trip to the 2024 NCAA Tournament after claiming a Western Athletic Conference Tournament title.

"We think Mia is the most talented defender coming out of the transfer portal this spring," Guerrieri said. "She reads the game well, is a tough 1v1 defender, and is very comfortable with the ball at her feet as a creative threat going forward for us in attack."

Scranton arrives in Aggieland with two years of eligibility. With the Lancers, she appeared in 32 matches. She racked up four career assists while playing primarily on the backline.

In her rookie campaign, Scranton played in 13 matches all off the bench, notching one assist. CBU registered shutouts in five of her 13 appearances.

Last season, the Temecula, California, native played in 19 matches. The Lancers posted shutouts in seven of her 19 matches, registering a 0.99 goals-against average.

"We just became a much more difficult team to play against with Mia on our team," Guerrieri said. "Her experience in the college game with Tim Strader coaching her means she can comfortably step right in and understand the concepts we believe in."

Also a standout in the classroom, Scranton earned a spot on the Fall Academic All-WAC list in 2024.

Scranton prepped at Chaparral High School and played with City Soccer Club.

About a month away from the first match of the season. An exhibition vs Rice. Before the match would be a good time to start a new thread for the season (current thread (this one) is for Spring).

Also noticed the roster page today. No idea how long it has been out nor if it has been mentioned here but just in case:

First match now about three weeks out. First six matches of the season (two exhibitions) at home.

TLDR - A&M soccer was in the red for more than $2.3MM last year despite revenue higher than anyone on the list (comments state high revenue is due to popular summer camps).

What drove the expense? I'm really curious to see what is driving the $5M expense

My guess is scholarship cost and travel

Especially because the program has never chipped in for the confetti supplies.

well i'm assuming that the majority of the cost or expenses is flying to matches. I'm assuming we charter which my guess isn't cheap. I know i've seen other SEC come to Ellis in buses, not charter buses, but buses with school logo.

I'm sorta shocked that we generate that much rev, again assuming that is from ticket sales.

A lot is from the Summer Soccer Camps

really? So ballpark numbers? How much do we charge? How many campers do we get a summer?

$2.2m in camp revenue, but I think much of the revenue goes out in coach salaries (there are lots of coaches in addition to the A&M coaches and several A&M players due to the volume of campers and the fact that it is overnight camp requiring supervision 24 hours per day). There is also obviously the cost of room and board for all the campers, which I think runs 6 days per session.
Aggies2026
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Report says $1.4m in coaching salaries, $650k in travel, $769k in student aide/scholarships, $64k in recruiting. However, all of these expenses also include camp expenses, so hard to compare these numbers to others as A&M has the biggest camp revenue in the country.

I think all the SEC soccer programs charter to conference games. Non-conference games are buses or commercial flights, and I think most programs (including A&M) also bus to the SEC tournament in Florida every year.

I believe A&M charters a larger plane than most so everyone can travel. Other schools limit travel roster to 24
