I think that's the tough part, it's so freakin obvious.

Did he mean to? I don't personally think he did, but I don't think most penalties called for handballs are truly intentional either. If you did it you did it.

Even if the penalty was called and we converted, we probably still would've have lost. Mexico was just better but the ridiculous refereeing in CONCACAF hasn't gotten any better.

I attribute this to the participation trophy mentality that everyone has embraced.

Every nation has to be represented so you get ref's from smaller countries who don't have as much experience, b/c of the lack of opportunity to gain that experience, in these high level matches they have no business working.

It's going on with female ref's too. I ref club and HS and the ration of male to female refs is at least 4:1. Yet we see men's games with all female crews (who cannot keep up with play) and the last Woman's world cup was all female officials (IIRC). NFW there are that many females at that level to cover all those games unless they were pushed up the ladder.

And to be clear, I'm not disparaging female officials. I've worked plenty of good ones and bad ones (and plenty of bad male officials as well), I'm simply pointing out the numbers don't add up.

This is not at all accurate.

I will add it does not help refereeing at the regional tournaments to have a FIFA tournament going on at the same time, CONCACAF lost several very experienced referees like Said Martinez and Cesar Ramos to that tournament.

Ramos couldn't have done this match. And frankly would probably have not called it much differently. The biggest miss for this match was Ivan Barton.

Yes, but I'm just talking in general terms

Hard to disagree with that. Luna, Tillman, and Richards are clearly top 3. After that, you can make an argument for only a few people. His note about Agyemang was that "he put himself in the discussion for future camps." Completely reasonable take. Berhalter was also a clear winner from the tournament with the set piece delivery.

Only other person you could make a case for is Ream, who is a known quantity and almost 40 years old.

Nobody is saying Berhalter and Agyemang are now solidified starters on the A team.

Congratulations to Berhalter for good service on a couple of unopposed free kicks. But he had enough bad touches technically and bad decisions tactically in the run of play to demonstrate that he's not good enough, IMO. And let's not forget his horrible PK in the quarterfinal. He did show some gusto or some feistyness when things got concacafy- I'll give him that.

Yeah I agree it's not a horrible take.

I do think Agyemang and Berhalter are on the list simply because everyone else was even worse, not that they particularly shined.

Agyemang could (theoretically) be a useful sub to provide a different look. When you consider his new club is likely gonna be fighting to avoid relegation, he has a chance to become a Route 1 & set piece specialist. Hope he takes advantage.

That's what we all hoped Dike would've been before his injuries have pushed him out any discussions in the player pool.

Meh- Agyemang's hold up play was fine. His runs and finishing were not and his physicality was not.

After Balogun and Pepi, I think I like Vasquez the best if Sargent is out of favor. I also think Poch has Haji Wright way up there. Not sure of the current form of others like Dike, Pefok, etc. All that to say, in a 26 man roster for WC next summer, I have to think Agyemang is on the outside looking in.

FWIW Vazquez went down with what looks like a knee injury in a US Open Cup match last night (crazy game too). He's also been pretty average since coming back to MLS unfortunately.
