The way we've done these tournaments in the past is to have this main thread as well as individual threads for the USMNT matches. We've also done threads for individual stages (each group/Ro16/QF/SF/F), but it can clutter up the board. I've done the individual group/round threads with tables to make tracking points and who advances easier. I've done those threads since 2010 and its no sweat off my back to make them and keep track of every thing.

Oh, the narrative s already out there that this is going to be the worst World Cup in history. Media can't wait to blame Trump and the US for the mess.

There is a story on YouTube about the ridiculous ticket prices and 99% of the comments are about the 'greedy USA' and Trump, when the story specifically outlines how it's FIFA setting prices and taking a 30% fee (15% from seller and buyer) on each ticket sold and resold, that FIFA is releasing tickets in bundles (not 100% of the stadium was available in the 1st go around) but somehow it's all the USA's fault.

The Somalia ref being denied is all over Twitter and it's obviously racism.

They also ignore the water bottle ban is b/c fans have a habit of throwing water bottles onto the field at matches in the past.

The people who live there probably aren't super happy about their government either. Though there's likely some US involvement in this particular decision.

There's so many groups, it might be better to make threads for 2 groups at a time, pairing them so they have at least a day of separation between their games. Like A&G, B&H, etc. Certainly less work for you, less clutter, and I don't think it would hurt discussion.

R32 is tricky. Wish there was an intuitive way to split it up.

Right or wrong, waiting until now to do that just means there has been thousands less tickets on available on the market for everyone else and likely to ultimately be more empty seats in the stadium.

But maybe FIFA does not view that as a bad scenario.

I think everyone kept hoping this would resolve and it just reached the 11th hour. Hard to blame anyone at FIFA here (for this - just for this, plenty of other blame to cast at them). IMO they rightly gave it as long as they possibly could. If they had yanked them 2 months ago and then peace happened it would have been an even bigger ****show.

had this debate with a buddy earlier. I'm going to 3 WC games, but only one is a USMNT match. I plan to wear USMNT gear to all 3 matches and his point was that was busch league. I'd 100% agree with him outside of a WC or Olympics, etc., but especially as a host nation, I fully expect to see every match plastered with USMNT, Mexico and CAN gear. If not, what are we doing. He compared it to the dbags that we see at Kyle Field wearing tu gear at a TAMU/Bama game for example. I couldn't disagree more.

Anyways, I'll be plastered in USMNT gear in either case, but wanted to get the thoughts of the group here. I'll be respectful in the non US games I attend, but for a once in a lifetime type of opportunity on home soil, damn straight I'll be repping the red, white and blue.

I might lean a little bit towards your buddy, but in the end I don't really care. I do think the home nations get a bit of a pass. In the end, the conclusion I came to was to kinda match whatever the nation colors were that were playing and most of those are red/white/blue.

Closest US sporting analogy would be host sites of NCAA tournaments. Is it wrong to wear A&M gear to non-A&M games in the College Station regional? I think not.

I think I personally would prefer to not do that, in either case, but I wouldn't fault those who do, and I think it's light years away from being like wearing horn gear to see A&M vs. SW Missouri or something.

I've been loving all the videos of Europeans realizing just how massive everything is. From stadiums to gallons of milk, they are just got smacked.

Looking at streaming options for the tournament as we've canceled YTTV for a bit.

Looks like Fox has their own streaming service for $20/month or I could do Sling Select with all the Fox networks for the same price. Or just watch them on Peacock in Spanish

Anyone have preferences/opinions? Figure this could be useful for others as well.
