Yep, we need more of this. I think they must have sent the cameramen a memo before this World Cup to not get as many honey shots. There have been a lot less shown this year compared to past world cups.

A couple years ago. Erdogan did the whole strongman nostalgia thing (renaming things) to strengthen his populist base so he could erode their democratic institutions. It's part of their religious populist moves to strengthen that key voting block even though they are a very secular Muslim country at heart. When I flew Turkish airlines in 2022 they were hyping it up but it was not official yet - so I think around 2023ish.

I'm not saying you're incorrect but democratic institutions in Turkey are a complete joke anyways. The country is officially spelled "Trkiye" so I equated it to Denmark/Danmark, Sweden/Sverige...i.e. English vs Native linguistical spellings.

My wife and I had this conversation at the beginning of the WC regarding Turkey and calling out Deutschland. All or nothing. Turkey is still Turkey unless we're willing to go all the way

South Africa's upset jumped them into 2nd and pushed South Korea down in to 3rd. South Korea now sits in 4th position on the 3rd place table. Scotland sit in 7th. They have the worst goal differential of any team on 3 points currently. They also only scored 1 goal which is the 2nd tie breaker so they basically are the worst in both categories right now
