I just dont like Sochan at the 3.
Sochan's an extremely high level perimeter defender and pretty mediocre at best in the post. I'm not sure how you can see him as a big when he is clearly not good there.

In fact, I'm not sure if I would extend him at all. This is a big season for him but if his shooting splits don't improve drastically then I'm not sure what his future looks like.
I hope we do extend him on his current value. Right now, he is a ~25mpg bench forward. That should be a 6-9% of the cap extension. So like 4y50M. If he can just learn to make the corner three, he becomes significantly more valuable.

In fact, I would argue Fleming at the 4 and Vassell at the 3 is a better "fit" in today's nba. Especially if Castle is out there to be your POA defender.
Until one of them hits threes at the 34% mark or higher, you have to stagger Sochan and Castle for the most part. But you absolutely need a POA defender out there at all times, and we have two high level ones in Sochan and Castle.

Until Sochan can consistently shoot he shouldn't be playing on the perimeter. Makes things way too difficult on offense for everyone else.
You realize that who you guard on defense and the role you play on offense are two different things, right? If you have a PF that can shoot like Naz or Fleming, then Sochan can play a more traditional PF role on offense while playing a perimeter defense role on defense. And that is ideally how we utilize him because Sochan is a really great roll man and a really great perimeter defender. Barnes essentially played the 3 on offense with Sochan at 4 and Barnes played the 4 on defense while Sochan played on the perimeter because Barnes doesn't have the lateral movement to play on the perimeter.
