I was hoping he would go replace Dame in Milwaukee. Sucks to make LA stronger

Eh, it's gonna be the same story of how many games they can get their dudes to play. In the last 6 seasons the most games Beal has played in a season is 60. Kawhi has only eclipsed 60 games once in that same span. Harden has been more reliable in terms of being on the court, but he's old and you never know how he'll hold up.

Wiz fans on Reddit seem ecstatic to be getting rid of Olynyc. Spurs fans excited to be rid of 22. Hope this works out.

Big expiring deal. Spurs obviously didn't want to hand out another multi year deal to someone. It was time for Branham and Wesley to go. They didn't need to be taking minutes from anyone at this point.

Yea I'm excited to not have to watch Branham's terrible body language, blaming others for how crappy he is on the court.

Meanwhile the city gave the spurs permission to play 3 home games away from San Antonio this coming season. 2 in Austin with the 3rd either in Mexico City or France.

They have no use for a veteran connective piece because their draft pick is top-8 protected and then converts to 2 seconds. So they are going to be bottom 2 with Utah.

Olynyk is a really great passer and shooter. 42% from three last year and 40% from three over the past 3 years.

Defensively, he can play PF or C, but his rim defense isn't great. He will primarily rotate with Barnes. Play them both about 25mpg. He isn't really a good rim protector, but we will always have Wemby/Kornet in the game.

On offense, he can be part of the offense because he can actually pass at a high level but mainly works as a spot up shooter.

Really smart veteran and on an ending contract. Giving up OKC's 2nd for him when Toronto spent a 1st to get him two years ago is a steal.

8.5M below tax sounds an awful lot like three min players even though we could go over.

Chris Boucher is my top choice but he may not want to come here with Olynyk above him.
Amir Coffey would be welcome.
Thomas Bryant can have that 3rd string center spot.

My guess is we scrape together some upside young guys.

I like Olynyk. He's essentially a bigger, more experienced Mamu. Because of his size and offensive versatility he can play next to Wemby or Kornet, so helps keep more size and rebounding on the floor. Very solid bench piece.

Kinda low-key love the trade. Olynyk is a guy who can be a spot starter in case of injury and we seemed to be a tiny bit thin in the front court (even after Kornet) anyway and it was obvious there wasn't much playing time for Blalaki Wesham with Harper on the roster now. Probably need a vet min guard just in case of emergency, and maybe an addition swing guy but I'm really liking the makeup of the roster.

Great deal and we don't have to see Malaki out there any more.

Another awesome move from Wright. Getting rid of more deadweight (although I do like Blake), continuing to add frontcourt depth, and keeping the rest of the MLE dry for another quality player.

How about bringing back Cory Joseph? Vet with playoff experience (was on our last championship team), knows his role, but still capable of playing in a pinch (was playing big minutes for Orlando with the Suggs injury).

Also makes you wonder why we traded away 38. I'm not super knowledgeable on the financial implications of making that pick vs where we are now, but seems like we could've taken a low risk swing at someone there

I'd be good with it. Im sure on spurs reddit theyre dying to bring Patty back or maybe Garrett Temple.

Brian Wright said in an interview we didnt want to bring in 3 rookies and had other plans to address our needs with bigs.

I think the Spurs knew they were essentially guaranteed at least one of Sorber, Bryant, or Coward and were happy with those choices.

Feels like we don't have room for the playing time 38 would need to develop. Harper and Bryant should get a lot of time (obviously Harper will get way more) but we've got a solid top 8-10 now even including the rooks. Not enough minutes in the game.

I think it is going to make sense to start Sochan over Castle for the extra size and rebounding. Until one of them can shoot, we are rarely going to play Castle and Sochan together.

Start:

Wemby - Barnes - Sochan - Vassell - Fox

2nd team:

Kornet - Olynyk - Bryant/Julian - Castle - Harper

Depth:

Keldon - Bryant or Julian - 3 min FAs.

These are actually teams that make sense. We have off-ball shooters in Barnes, Vassell, Olynyk, Julian and probably Bryant. We have two elite rim protectors in Wemby/Kornet. We have the dirty work enforcer in Olynyk and Sochan. We have 3 guys that can create elite rim pressure to break down defenses. We have the Alien.

Pretty incredible transformation of this team.

I never thought I'd say this about a lineup with Kornet and Olynyk, but I'm really looking forward to watching that 2nd unit hoop

I saw this website the other day where you could plot the minutes and when during the game subs would happen (dumb, I know but it helps me imagine the game better as we don't ever actually have full 2nd unit platoon swaps, etc) but i can't find the website now. It sucked on mobile anyway.

Here's my theoretical minute distribution.

PG Fox 32:00, Castle 10:00, Harper 6:00
SG Castle 20:00, Harper 14:00, Vassell 14:00
SF Vassell 16:00, Bryant 10:00 Barnes 12:00, Sochan 6:00, Keldon 5:00, Champenny 5:00
PF Barnes 18:00, Sochan 18:00, Kornet 6:00, Olynyk 6:00
C Wemby 32:00, Kornet 16:00

They're just still upset he mushroomed stamped them in 2017 in game 7 of the Eastern semis while KO was in Boston. Scored 26 on them. It would almost be like if the Spurs brought in Zaza Pachulia

PF Barnes 18:00, Sochan 18:00, Kornet 6:00, Olynyk 6:00
C Wemby 32:00, Kornet 16:00
My thought:

PG: Fox 32 - Harper 16
SG: Vassell 16 - Castle 25 - Harper 7
SF: Sochan 25 - Vassell 14 - Castle 3 - Bryant 6
PF: Barnes 25 - Olynyk 18 - Wemby 5
C: Wemby 28 - Kornet 20

Yeah, I'm down with those rotational minutes...honestly i think as long as either Fox or Castle are on the floor at all times, we're going to see some WILD lineups and I am effing here for it. We have so many dudes who can play multiple positions...there's so much plug and play we can do to show different looks.

I really wanted the big grinning emoji. Damn, I'm excited. I know how much we needed Kornet but Olynyk fits in with our current roster so damn good. I'm quite happy with our flexibility.

What I really like about Olynyk is that he brings some rebounding and strength that Barnes doesn't have at PF, so we can do a Fox, Harper, Castle, Olynyk, Wemby lineup but I don't think that works with Barnes or Sochan.

Olynyk's better rebounding and size compared to Barnes unlocks a lot of options with the guards.

Olynyk is a significantly better pickup and fit than I thought they'd be able to land. Really nice job by the FO.

Same...if we look at our lineup sorted by size and with the traditional traits that go with PG/SG/SF/PF/C, Olynyk slotting in gives us a ton of different options to size up against teams when we need to size up and make a lot of different matchup options and exploit the other team's weaknesses easier.

Part of me is like...yeah F it lets roll Wemby at the 3 for a few minutes randomly and force the other team to call a timeout to get their bearings straight.

Olynyk has been dirty for sure (Kevin Love foul most notably) but he also is a guy that just grates on other players and incites them.

Durant hates him:

Olynyk set the hard screen and got Oubre to react and get ejected on some Kelly on Kelly crime:

Whiteside losing his cool after Kelly needles him:

Really impressive defensive sequence. Just locks him up and doesn't let him go anywhere.

6'8 [in shoes] with 7' wingspan and 215lbs and 40" vertical is elite. Same standing reach as Cooper Flagg.

He's gonna get a lot more minutes than people think this year.
