Bad News: 9 pt deficit at half

Good News: It feels like it should be much worse

Dang, Wemby looked amazing in the 1st half.

You can see our guy's brains breaking in real time as they get to the paint and see Wemby.

Not being a shooting team going against Wemby is a terrible recipe.

Some of the fouls called this game and in other games around the league have been so ****ing soft.

It's a shame the league decided to switch back from the adjustment they made the second half of the 23-24 year. It's an objectively worse product when they're calling this stuff.

This was clearly Tony Brothers' night. Black Joey Crawford out there to make a game about him.

Flagg's baseline reverse was pretty spectacular

Hopefully we look back on this game and the takeaway is that Wemby just broke the game as he took the leap to top 2 player in the world.

Still, a lot of things people worried about showed up tonight, like not having an adult who can dribble and not having enough shooting.

Lively getting in foul trouble early and not having Gafford also made the game a little goofy.

I also think this game is partially on the coaches for bad strategy and game preparation. We passed on way too many 3s as we tried to pump and get in to the lane. When you go against Wemby you just need to take the 3. We shot even worse from 2 than we did from 3.

Just gotta give props to SA. Wemby ascended to the place everyone thought he could as a dominant 2 way player. The reverse dunk and pump fake highlights are gonna make the headlines but the scariest play by Wemby to me was when he put his shoulder into AD, did 2 power dribbles, and finished at the rim. That's old school basketball where he literally just out muscled his way to the hoop (something I thought Wemby couldn't or wouldn't do). If he's gonna have a pull up mid range game and a low post back to the basket game, it's a wrap. There's nothing the Mavs can do with that variety of scoring at that size.

None of that is to mention the towering menace he poses on defense. Don't know how many times a Mavs player drove the paint only to have all hope be swallowed in his shadow.

I think Wemby's main challenge is going to be staying in the lineup. These freak of nature bodies love to break down.

Yeah that's always been the concern for sure. He had some stress fracture issues when he was a teenager in France.

When he was 12, his parents started him with a stretching routine to help with ligament /tendon issues. Might be why we don't really see him have any sprains even though we see him land awkwardly fairly often. It's also why he doesn't lift weights so that he doesn't gain too much weight and put too much stress on his body. Think that's why guys like Joel embiid break down.

He seems to be beyond the blood clot thing and that's at least something that they can regularly monitor him for and give him medicine to help prevent.

Terry Rozier and Chauncey Billups arrested by the FBI for illegal gambling. Looks like Terry's may be basketball related and Billups is unrelated poker stuff.

The Good News definitely got worse. I only watched the first quarter. We're 33 points worse than the Spurs without DeAaron Fox?

Knowing what we know now, yeah kinda. At least for game 1 of this NBA season.

The experiment of Flagg at the 1 didn't work. It could work eventually, but it will be a tough watch for now. He just wasn't prepared to go against players like Castle and Vassell.

Add to that Wemby just is that dude now and he completely broke the game with his rim deterence and getting Lively and PJ in foul trouble early. And he made every shot he wanted over both Lively and AD. When you are so tall and skilled that you render All Defense contenders useless then you have to just tip your cap. And a large part of our offense will be Lively and AD, well Wemby can just negate that entirely.

It was a combination of a bad matchup with Wemby being an animal now, Mavs still trying to flesh out their identity and work out a new offense, and guys just played poorly.

and cooper was playing with a lot of hesitance. I'm confident he'll find his way soon....it was a quick transition at Duke. The lack of shooting scares me though. I definitely underestimated our needs there. My guess is we'll be trading for a shooter at some point.

For sure. Saw it from a lot of guys yesterday, particularly Coop and Naji. Caleb Martin too, but the game was decided by the time he came in. They should have been told and/or should have known to just take the 3 when you catch it and are slightly open. Too much pumping and driving in to the lane when SA wanted you to do that to go right to Wemby.

Needed more from DLo last night and that was bad. Luckily PJ's shot has kept improving from last season's improvement. Christie is one of the better shooters on the team and I'd like to see lineups with he and Nembhard to go with 3 bigger guys. Need Nembhard to show something from 3.

And Klay was rough last night. Bad shot decisions all night. He's always bad in October and November, so this will just be part of it for the next month.

Lots of issues showed up for the Mavs last night but it could just be that Wemby is a complete game-wrecker now and the Mavs were wholly unprepared for that type of dominance. Castle very well could have taken a big jump also.

Let's see where we're at after Friday. Game 2, won't be a national game so not as much pressure, and 11.5 point favorites against a bad East team. Dominate the Wizards, hold them under 100 the way you want to defend teams, and the vibes can change.

Would help if Wemby also goes off on Friday so we know he just is going to do that to everybody all year.

91 FTs in the OKC-IND game tonight with SGA shooting 26… Who wants this?

Too many players still get the call when the offensive player initiates the contact to create space. SGA is certainly one of them.

Too be clear, I don't have an issue with an offensive player bumping a defensive player to create space. I just don't think the defensive player should be called for a foul.

No issue with bumping either, the problem is we all know Shai does more than just bump. The arm extends every time. And he also gets every call when he's strictly seeking calls. Definition of unethical hooper.

That's what I said leaving the 2003 WCF when Bennett Salvetore gave the Spurs/Mavs 98 total FTs. Unwatchable.

If we only had an on-ball creator. Hmmmmmm. That may be Flagg one day, likely when the other key pieces on this team are fully old and busted.

Flagg making stuff happen in the 4th but it's probably too little too late.

The number of turnovers are pathetic and it's not just the inability to dribble and pass well but just lack of effort and focus.
