Nothing but crickets on the Astros, huh? I hope this means that Crane is getting his ducks in a row.

He's still waiting on Bagwell to tell him if he should re-sign Dana.

Bagwell has to wait until Ausmus is done coaching so he can interview for the job

Crane right now is debating whether he should bring back a GM after missing the playoffs for the first time in 9 years.

What crane also needs to consider is this… our last win in the playoffs was 2 years ago (as of about two weeks from now). So just running it back again isn't the answer

I'm thinking Crane is waiting to see if Hinch may be available.

What a team does in one 3 game series should have 0 impact on any decision. If it does then Crane has lost his mind and we are fracked.

I agree with that on its premise … However, we followed it up by not making the playoffs the next season. So that does impact the decision.

Pretty sure tjack was using that in the cumulative context. I think it's applicable.

We actually made a lot of personnel changes the prior offseason and lose Framber this offseason so some level of changes are inherent.

If your premise is this is on the coach and more specifically the GM then I disagree. I don't really care if we make a manager changes because I don't think they matter much as long as they aren't complete idiots (Joe isn't) but the GM has had less than three years and inherited a garbage farm system. It's a position that inherently needs some patience.

I'm good with keeping Dana. I was referencing that we need coaching changes, and some key roster moves. They were too highly dependent on arms returning from serious injuries and we had no offensive depth.

They also just seemed massively unprepared for a majority of the pitchers they faced this year

When's the last time the Yankees won a WS without a roider (or multiple roiders) on their roster?

Thanks to Crane's signings of Abreu and Montero before hiring Dana, plus his desire to sign Hader, there wasn't much salary to work with last offseason to address obvious holes in the roster.

Furthermore, the IL was full of offensive starters, as well as depth guys. There's no way you can carry enough depth to account for our losses. We had to plug AAA guys into the lineup and bat guys like Walker and Jake higher than they should have been.

If you judge the season objectively, I think we overachieved given the injuries. I think most rational fans, after losing Bregman and Tucker, had us in the 85-95 range for wins. Now if we had known Yordan would only play 48 games, I'm not sure anyone would have put us over 90 wins. Now consider all of the other injuries. It's really quite impressive that this wasn't a .500 ball club this season.

We often trotted out a lineup with only two guys with a .700+ OPS. This was not the 2019 offense struggling to score runs. It was often crap and produced results that are expected of such a lineup.

If Joe is fired, it won't be because of the results. No rational owner is going to hold a manager accountable for being dealt such a crappy hand. But there's more to managing a team than writing out a lineup card, and if they feel Joe isn't the right man to handle those responsibilities, then a change is justified.

My only bone to pick with that analysis is that our best month was the one when we were trotting out the AAAA lineup.

October 6, one of the greatest combined days in Astros' history.

1980: Astros win the N.L. West for the first time with a 7-1 playoff victory in Los Angeles Joe Niekro gets his 20th win on a six-hitter. Art Howe is the offensive star with four RBIs on a two-run homer and a two-run single

1981: Alan Ashby, as if waiting a year for revenge, slams a two-out two-run homer off Dave Stewart in the ninth to stun the Dodgers, 3-1, in Game One of their divisional playoff series. Ashby had gotten one of his ribs broken in the 1980 1-game playoff with LA and missed the NLCS. Steve Howe warming up in the bullpen to come in and sell some cocaine.

2004 - Houston gets the jump on Atlanta in Game One of the N.L.D.S. with a 9-3 rout behind Roger Clemens and four home runs. Brad Ausmus, Lance Berkman, Carlos Beltran and Jason Lane provide the long balls. Our top 5 hitters that year - Biggio, Beltran, Bagwell, Berkman, Kent. :0

2015 - In a one-game Wild Card playoff, the Astros travel to New York and eliminate the Yankees, 3-0, behind the three-hit pitching of Dallas Keuchel over six innings and three innings of shutout relief. Colby Rasmus and Carlos Gomez provide the offense with solo homers off Masahiro Tanaka.

2017 - Carlos Correa homers and drives in four to pace an 8-2 victory over Boston in Game Two of the A.L.D.S. George Springer also goes deep. Houston leaves town with a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I remember most of those pretty well. Not to nit pick your 2004 section, but did Berkman and Beltran hit a dinger or not? You say both.

Bye Framber. Thanks for the good times (including the no hitter that I was fortunate to see in person). And good luck to whatever team picks you up.

Should have traded him early in the season like I said. Got nothing for him. Luhnow is rolling over in his future grave.
