Would you sell your silver if silver prices slowly went up to $100 over the course of a few years? I think that's my breaking point.

Holy crap! I'm not so much excited for my gold & silver as scared for my dollars.
We've reached that inflection point where the asking price of 90% silver is selling at or below the melt value of the pure silver in the coins. For the last lengthy period of time, dealers were asking greater than melt value.
There are .715 ounces of pure silver in one dollar face value of 90%. The spot price of silver is as I write this $49.33.
Meaning there is .715 times $49.33 value of pure silver in one dollar's face value which equals $35.27.
A good portion of dealers are asking 35.0 times face at this moment.
The higher the price of silver rises and especially the faster it rises...you will see that discount rise until spot prices stabilize. Dealers don't want to get stuck with devaluing inventory or having to send 90% to smelter in order to extract value.
I recall this discount growing quite large in the 70's when the Hunt brothers made their run.

When the gold to silver ratios breaks 62, that's the sign to start preparing to sell. When it approaches 50, the topping of the metals market is imminent (could be days, weeks, or even months, but reversal can happen lightning quick).
We're poking around the $50 silver mark this morning...just pennies away.

Bought a set of sterling from a friend about 10 years ago at melt that needed cash. We've never used it once in ten years. I've often wondered if there isn't a market for just buying some sets below melt, sending them to the smelter and monetizing.

Except for the blades of the knives, it is 92.5% pure silver.
Are the blades stainless? I just weighed it all and the total weight of everything was ~8 lbs…

I have been told all my life that the blades of the knives are almost always stainless steel. When I just asked AI the question, the answer received was:

I don't believe the above is accurate regarding the handles....I believe the handles are sterling. But, I've never tried to sell a set....only bought the 12 place set we have from a friend in need.
The blades go up into the handle about 3-5 inches depending on blade. The only thing that is silver is the handle of a knife
So for instance knife weighs 2 ounces about 1/2 ounce would be the silver
You have to beat the knife out and then get all the handles together and smelt them
Smelters are about 1000-1500depending on which ones
I have one and its pretty good but it takes alot of time to smelt and pour and I just dont have the time but I will one day

If your silver is in decent shape, you might research what you can sell it for as-is, My wife inherited an incomplete set of sterling and buying the rest of the pieces to complete it has been pretty expensive. Don't know what prices are like today, but when we were buying it was much more valuable than just the silver content at spot.

It's pretty evident. However, if the moves higher can keep from blowing out paper lease premiums, spreads, and hedges...we'll be okay. We need those incremental pullbacks, floors, and ceilings put in place.The decades long disconnect between the paper market and physical supply/demand is overdue a reality check. A reckoning in the PM market, though badly wanted, wouldn't be good for anyone.
The moment Hong Kong closed in the middle of the night, Mr. Slammy tried his best. He's desperate.
