Double rye in old fashioneds is excellent

It's almost time for Midwinters Night Dram season, which may be my favorite bottle next to EHT single barrel.

Midwinter nights dram has never disappointed me

Rendezvous is also solid too until MWND drops. Maybe I'm just fan of wine finishes for ryes.

I really like their finished Ryes. Midwinter Nights Dram is always great. Most of their private barrels are good too

What is the age of these barrels?

Barrel 1 - 120.75 proof, filled 07/06/2021, dumped 5/19/2025 - Almost 4 years, ~3.875 years
Barrel 2 - 118.36 proof, filled 10/07/2021, dumped 5/19/2025 - ~3.625 years

I got to take home an extra sample of barrel 2 and it went fast... the juice is very good folks... don't miss out!

Just curious - why would they let these age less than 4 years?

I don't know, I'd have to ask the single barrel program lead. But I'd assume its because a bit of aging it in Texas and that most of their Rye is aged only 3 years (so we got ones that had been around a bit longer!). Perhaps its because it is Rye and that's their recipe? Not 100% sure, just know it tastes pretty good.

Do you have a preference between the 2 barrels? I am getting 3 total, but giving 2 to friends so want to know which one to keep for myself lol

On the brand preferences for Barrel Select, does the order mean anything, or is it simply a listing of what you are willing to purchase? Are all of your entries put in each one on your list that are included in a given drawing?

Traded my purple top recently for a big ISO, so I'm on the lookout for a pour somewhere. Saw one recently in D.C. but wouldn't even ask for the pour price after seeing what they charged for Stagg. I can wait.

Was in salt lake a couple of months ago and drove up to high west. It was beautiful. Mid Winters Nights Dram is their best product. Hard to find. The distillery didn't even have any. You can find it on secondary for around $180. it's worth it. Prisoners is my second favorite. Bought 6 bottles at $175 each at the distillery. Their Bourye is my 3rd favorite. You can occasionally at Total Wine. The Rendezvous is my 4th favorite. Typically in the $70 range.

This is the hardest time to find MWND since it's 10 months post release. If you're in town during October/November when it's released you can buy a case at a time and every store will have dozens of bottles. They produce more than they can get rid of now.

It is truly a change in Bourbon. For those in Austin at least not only is there a lot of EHT SmB available, TL has it reduced on the Dollar Day sale. For anyone getting in the stores early today it is $46. One by my house had cases ready to go.

Ya, seeing SmB on the shelf all the time now. Wild.

Same with the SmB. Would be glorious if the SiB and BP follow soon.

Same here….I think EHT is probably my favorite bourbon for the money. SmB, SiB, and BP are all excellent. Was shocked when I started seeing SmB pop up everywhere at retail price. At $54 cash price as Spec's? All damn day!

On the other hand, someone needs to explain the EHT rye to me like I'm 5. I normally like ryes a lot, but can't stand EHT rye. I guess it's the specific mashbill they use for it. It's nothing like Sazerac or other ryes I like.

Same here was in TL Houston area today and snagged a SmB, but did have to ask for it. I'm pretty sure they had a few cases behind the counter.

Regardless, really glad EHT is easier to get these days!
