Here is my humble collection. Most were gifted to me when I retired but, yes, I have bought several in the last few months. I still don't know what I like. Truthfully, I probably already have more than I'll ever drink in my lifetime. I wouldn't mind finding one that I do like. I did buy some Woodford Reserve Old Fashion syrup and plan on trying that this weekend.

Found my first bottle of Stagg Jr out in the wild today (at msrp-ish). Putting my bourbon purchasing journey on hiatus. Have way more than I need for a long while!

Nice collection! You have some good bottles in there for just getting into it. Which ones are your favorites?

You've got some great bottles. I am especially jealous of the Balcones Cataleja. that is one of my top bottles.

If you want to do a tasting try the Maker's, Old Forester, McKenna, Jack, and Eagle Rare/Buffalo Trace.

Those should cover a lot of the flavor profiles and give you some idea of what you prefer.

thanks. I plan to try the Eagle Rare this weekend.

my favorite bottles are the April Ones and the double double oaked Woodford Reserve. I haven't opened those bottles though.

Pro tip, use the less exciting ones as cocktail mixers. You'll make some bomb ass drinks. Live and learn and figure out what you like.

I've bought a lot of turds over the years that make expensive bourbon and cokes.

Chestnut farms is a private label for total wine so they shill it like it's incredible. I've honestly never tried it, but it gets a bad rep.

The bad rap comes from them pushing it on people who are asking for an honest recommendation and not disclosing it is a "house brand" along with the high price associated with it.

It is not bad bourbon at all, its actually probably pretty good.. It basically 1792 full proof.

I would say this is the biggest culprit. They tend to prey on innocent victims looking for recommendations and in doing so solely push their overpriced house brand that they have high margins on. Many a wife, sister, and friend have been bamboozled into purchasing "The Blantons Killer" for their loved ones.

Can't tell you how many times they've been shilling Chestnut or another store pick, then walked off, and I advise the person on a much better option (usually some good allocated sitting right behind them).

Should have posted this sooner but in case you're free tonight.

We are having the release party / bottle share for the Bardstown high proof pick tonight 6p-9p (previous releases never ended on time) in Pebble Creek (CS).

Even if you didn't get a Bardstown you are more than welcome to stop by, meet some other TexAgs posters, and share a drink or three.

Was in Denver this week for work and did some bourbon hunting. Didn't buy anything but saw loads of Eagle Rare 10 for $48, Blanton's/1792 Sweet Wheat/John J Bowman Single all on the shelf. One store said they have Eagle Rare 12 coming next week.

The first pic was from the bar. This was earlier inside the house.

I need to take a trip to Colorado.

A friend of mine is picking up his son in Boulder as Summer school classes end in August and said his son found some pleasant surprises at his local liquor store.

Looking forward to seeing what that means.

We will be up there for a couple weeks, hoping ER12 and RR13 B6 hit all over while there.

The stores can be hit or miss on pricing, especially in the resort areas.

Beats the prices near Nashville. But am finally seeing ER10 ($61) and Blanton's ($95) on shelves at least, which is new.

Interesting bottle. The lemon peel and clove caught my attention. Pretty decent for $40. Taste banana, hint of citrus, and finish with clove. Blend of wheat whiskeys. Low proof so the wife likes it. It's Randy Rogers bottle.

Brings up interesting talking point. Disclaimer- im not a big ER Fan in totality. At $39 it was best deal in bourbon.

So, name 3, 10yr bourbons better than Eagle Rare under $52.
Always the most goodest

I love ER and will buy it at $65.

I guess I don't get hung up on the age statement that much. It's nice, but more importantly to me, there are a number of bourbons at $52 or lower that I like more than ER. I like ER fine and will buy it at MSRP but won't search for it or buy over MSRP. Other ones I enjoy at that price point:

WT101
WT101 8 year
Knob Creek single barrel select 120 proof
WT Rare Breed
OF 1910
1792 BiB
1792 FP
RR 10 year
Four Roses Single Barrel

Probably missing some but those initially jump out

Its not just age. it is also proof. There are plenty of younger bourbons that i would prefer to drink that come in at 100+ proof.

but even if we were to compare 10 year 90 proof bourbons id go with a RR for <$40.
