Thanks for starting this thread.

Chris McDermott, who was one of my favorite recruits from last year, was initially a PWO I believe- though that may have changed during the season.

Hoping his proximity to his home and family in Houston helps to anchor him in Aggieland (assuming Bucky want to keep him).

Someone mentioned on another thread that Rencher, our highest rated signee for the incoming class and a 6'5" SG/SF, was reportedly visiting Maryland.

Not sure about the other two - one guard from SoCal and the other from AZ.

Thought a change of coaches is almost like an auto release (yes, formality of getting released, but University/staff isn't going to hold a kid who doesn't want to be here since he committed to prior coaching staff).

I hope this doesn't come across as anti texags ...but ... this is one of those times when it would be neat if some texags staffer would take it upon him or her self to up date the basket ball team roster page every day.

Maybe it's not that simple.

You build a team on speed, size, and skill.

Every coach would like to have all 3 and you can't win with just 1. With 2; speed / size, skill / speed, size / skill a coach can create a strategy.

Bucky is going to play a run-and-gun offense and a full court press on defense. So I guess I should add 'stamina' to the list.

Lots of players would love to play this type of game. I think he picks Speed and Skill over Size. Takes a toll on the players.

Just an aside Solo would have loved this.

Bucky is gonna hold open tryouts at the rec center to fill out the roster. I may give it a shot. I'm 45 and out of eligibility, but at least I'm short.

Agree on Solo. Perhaps Bucky's staff could have done a better job developing Solo's offensive skills than Buzz staff did. Lack of development of Solo's
Offensive skills with his toolkit were a glaring failure imo.

Depth will also be at a premium if you are going to press full court. 5 guys with tremendous stamina won't do it , he'll need 10-12. There have been teams that have gone deep in the tourney without future NBA players but with a ton of interchangeable parts.

If you could dive for a loose ball and box out you'd have started for Buzz.

As a matter of perspective....$4 million is about the price for a 1st round pick in the NBA right outside the lottery. I've been wondering about these dudes who pass up the draft for an NIL bag. There's arguments to be made for wanting to get to the NBA as soon as possible because the first contract after you're off the rookie scale is where most dudes cash in. However...hey, if you're getting paid rookie scale and get to bump around college for another year (and about a third of the games, etc.) that's going to be hard to pass up.

I've already seen and heard enough in just this short time to know that Bucky is doing and will do far more to engage the fans and donors than Buzz did. Buzz pretty much siloed himself, especially after covid which seemed to change his mindset quite a bit.

At some point maybe you'll be interested in talking about the A&M program and coach and not just defending the former coach. And I say that as someone who doesn't ascribe to a lot of the sour grapes narratives about Buzz.

Buzz had his strengths, and he had his weaknesses, and he sure as heck had his quirks. But he's at Maryland and re-litigating his tenure constantly is tiring and unproductive.

When Buzz came in he stated that he really thought what should draw people to attend basketball was the way he coached them to play.

No really…he did. Had no intention of being a primary proooter of his program.

Truth. If you're drafted in the back half of the first round, you're not likely starting and may spend a lot of time in the G League or shuttling back and forth and that goes double for 2nd rounders. At that money, sticking in school and improving your draft status seems like a great option.

He will end up at Maryland. He's become buddies with Mils and Turkson so I imagine he follows them. Unless he decides to go back overseas.

Around the time of Bucky's announcement it was reported he had around 7 mil in NIL money for the upcoming season. Not sure what that get you these days when 1 star play alone gets 4mil.
