Funny you should mention women's basketball. I did a bit of a deep dive on them today, going over posts on their board, etc. Back when I lived in College Station, my brother and I bumped into Gary Blair at dinner one night. Showed us his national championship ring and couldn't have been nicer. As you know well, the program has now fallen off a cliff. Looking back, Coach Taylor seemed like a good hire. But with all the losing, longtime avid fans are obviously disheartened. Per one of the posters on the women's board, it's very sad.

What does everyone think about Ole Miss-TN tonight? I've been surprised by Ole Miss falling off a bit this year (11-10; 3-5 SEC), especially since we apparently pursued Chris Beard last year. TN is favored by 11.5, which seems about right.
I'll be surprised if Tennessee doesn't run them off the court.

I suspect you're right. Aside from our flirtation with Beard, another interesting dynamic is Barnes and Beard both being former Texas coaches. Believe I dislike Beard more than I dislike Barnes. If Ole Miss keeps it close, I may find myself rooting for TN despite that it would work against us. Curious how emotions express themselves in watching sporting events.

That tu team would be tough to root for. Really seem lackadaisical so much of the time. Trailing now but will probably win easily.
13-9 and 4-5 in conference is a lot different than 17-4 and 7-1. tu is up and down. We were supposed to be the high variance team but they really are.
Miller is a very solid coach but he isn't getting the buy in from his players that Bucky is. That may actually have been an advantage for Bucky as he got to select his team vs inheriting one.

Didn't have much hope for a Texas loss tonight with them playing SC at home. Surprised to see the Cocks leading 20-15 with 8 mins to go in the first half. Still early.
Maybe it's just me, but the only thing I really ever had against Barnes was that he coached the sips. I think he's a good coach and much more tolerable at UT. He even lobbied for us to make the tournament the year we were snubbed.

Barnes is a very good coach. You don't win perennially like he does if you're not.

Not just you. Really like him and it'll never not be hilarious to me that he gave Texas its best basketball ever, gets fired. Then gives another Orange team their best basketball ever while Texas sucks wind for a decade.
I agree with your positive opinion of Rick Barnes. He's a North Carolina native (my home state) and coached at Clemson before going to Texas. Has always seemed like a hard worker and genuine. Of course, in the early days, some criticized him for being linked to so many coaching positions. I never knew what to make of that.
You're a better man than I. No way I can root for Texas!
