Yep, 4th best season ever.

Is this the final season? Haven't seen anything recently on that.

I just watched the first episode of S4. Great start

What a flashback to start the season off with a bang

Man. I'm hoping these reviews, from the more established outlets, aren't the consensus...

Overall, it at least sounds like season four is better than season three. The reality is, nothing is ever going to top the first two seasons, and it's probably unfair to expect as much.

That said, it also sounds like this isn't the end, and that we're likely getting a fifth season, which is awesome/unexpected.

If it's better than S3, it will be a treat

Giving it some time before we really get into digesting the episodes to make sure everyone has a chance to watch first.

But I'd be really interested to hear everyone's take on the obvious use of colors in episode 2 especially. The blue/red contrast.

The criticism is kind of amusing. Plenty of people complained that the first couple of seasons were too intense and stressful. This season actually has characters growing and not being on the edge every second, and now that's bad too. The first couple of seasons were perfect. Seasons 3 and 4 may not be perfect, but I still love the show as a whole.

The Bear will suffer what The Wire went through. People want more of the same while complaining that it can't pivot into deeper subjects. Go figure. 3 episodes in, It's still easily the greatest show of the decade imo.

Stuff like this makes me think that there is a somewhat self-aware Easter Egg in the first episode regarding the reading material in the second scene of EP1 that bleeds into the rest of the season.

Nothing is ever good enough, even if you attempt to treat every guest as well as you treat a critic. It's simply impossible to please everyone, all of the time.

I have enjoyed the first two episodes. Likely watching EP3/4 tonight.

I'm watching season 3 now.

Jaime Curtis is so damn good as the mom that I absolutely hate her guts.

On episode 5 now. This thread seems dead, considering its 5 days post season drop.

Season 4 seems mid. Similar complaints in Season 3 about boring filler episodes.

Episode 3 was really good. Worms was an unnecessary waste of time.

Yikes. Watching episode 7 now. This is just cringe af at this point

EtA: they created a set with a 5 foot tall table to pretend that adults can physically get under there and have a focus/therapy group with children under a table at a wedding?.

Agreed.

Episode 3 was great because it demonstrates the heart of the show. "The Bear" is best when it's in the restaurant, showing people with a vision striving to be the best to create a memorable experience for guests. It's an insiders' view of what it takes to succeed in the pressure-packed world of fine dining.

The other episodes -- the constant stupid bickering, the halting, overbearing dialog, the way-too-long detours in the characters' lives -- take away from what makes the show special.

There were glimpses of excellence in Season 4, but overall it was a slog.

I feel like traffic on this board in general has really dipped the past few months. Must be a combo of summer and very low interest in Aggie sports

I posted a bunch of the thread before the season, but haven't had a chance to watch any episodes yet. Will start to watch this next week and will check back in with thoughts. Again, goes back to my complaint about dropping all episodes at once.

2 episodes in.
The Bear: the show that fell in love with the smell of its own farts?

Still going to complete it because I like the score story and most of the characters and the potential is still there.

I guess I'm weird, bc I loved season 4. Yeah, it was introspective and dialogue heavy, but it all resonated deeply with me. The background and struggles of the various characters....it felt like the writer had lived my life for a lot of it. I was blown away by the little things that the writers picked up on. Stuff that probably didn't even register for most people who didn't experience a childhood like Carmey had. Like Lee when he was just about to say "you should go visit your mom", and he stopped just short. And Carmey later thanked him for not saying it. That hit deep for me.

Finished ep 7 last night (which I thought was great and loved the cameo) and enjoying it as well.

I don't personally relate to most of these characters as my upbringing was very different, but as a creative Carmy's passion for his craft really resonates with me. And maybe it's simply because I find these characters so interesting but I enjoy the slower pace and conversations between them.

Also, "firepower" was awesome.

You hit on something here. For those of us who watched the Feast of Seven Fishes and had childhood flashbacks, this show hits us in a very deep spot.

Growing up amidst the chaos, you just find something to focus on and some way to get praise outside of the home. Unfortunately, that also comes with a heavy dose of self destructive behavior.

Viewing the series through that lens, it is less about a restaurant and more about Carmine trying to build a family. Seeing success happen amidst the chaos is simply normal to him. He doesn't know calm or measured anything. Season 4 was more of that and it won't resonate with everyone as a result.
