I am close to finishing the audiobook. Less than three hours left, and I find myself making excuses to drive so that I can listen to it.Rule Number 32 said:

Holy Moly! Thank you all you glorious generous fans of movies / books / near light speed space travel / the Sun for pushing the trailer for Project Hail Mary past 400 million views – the most in one week for a non-sequel non-remake original film trailer… ever. Can’t wait to… pic.twitter.com/b1UzDy3lH7

Not sure I agree. A major part of the conflict regarding Rocky's race is their ignorance to a lot of the fundamental physics of the universe. They are incredible engineers and understand materials at and advanced level, but don't understand a lot of the "why". Dr.Grace made a good foil to that with his conceptual science knowledge, but lacked the ability to build the necessary tools in a space environment to work on their hypotheses.MattAg06 said:
The book is good, and entertaining, but we all should admit that Rocky is the ultimate deus ex machina. Some of the engineering tasks he's tasked with doing (and pulls off perfectly!) are pretty unbelievable. "Rocky, I need a tank where I can control N2 dosing down to 1ppm, I won't give you any more details than that!"
I still enjoyed the book a great deal but some of those moments were a little eye-rolling.

We're getting awfully close to spoiler territory, guys. Or at least risking someone accidentally spoiling something. Please take any legit book decision to a separate thread, please.

I started *this* thread to talk about the MOVIE, thank you very much. It's on book readers to start a thread about the BOOK. This board has operated this way for as long as I can remember. One thread for spoiler-free movie talk, another thread for book talk. It's not a big ask at all. You cannot seriously think it's okay to freely talk book spoilers here.

The book is even better than The Martian in my opinion.

Someone directly asking another poster "What was wrong with [the ending of the book]?" is literally one post away from the ending of the book being spoiled, should the poster answering the question forget to use spoiler tags. Never mind any potential discussion of the ending that were to come after. So, yes, we were objectively close to spoiler territory, which I was simply trying head off in a thread meant to discuss the movie and not book spoilers.
Sorry that has inexplicably rubbed some of you the wrong way.

There's a long way left before we can light this firecracker. Might as well go ahead and read the book just to be safe.

It's a 4 year old book. I'd guess everybody clicking on the thread has read the book and if not, they should know better. At what point do we run out of statute of limitations for spoiler alert?
