Looked good. I'm curious if they will tell it linearly, or split the timeline like the book.

Hopeful the last scene is the book last scene as well.

If Ryan Gosling can nail the emotional range he's going to need for the lead, then he should win enough awards to have to build new shelves.

Great. Now I want to re-read the book and re-listen to Morning Glory.

So freaking pumped for this one. Looks like the whole team gets the heart of the book and the two main characters. There'll be some minor changes but I trust them to make it work.

Idle Thought: I know we have to wait and see the finished film of course, but aren't we living in a great time for sci-fi/fantasy film adaptations? Arrival, Dune, The Martian being obvious examples.

I've thought about this a lot lately. I've been hooked on Sci-fi this year. I actually watched the first trailer for this movie and then decided to read the book because I liked the trailer so much.

I think that technology evolving may be driving a lot more interest in these types of movies and books. AI is taking off, space ships are flying with frequency, military technology is taking steps forward (drones, headsets, etc.). Today I can place an order for a Jetson one or sign up to learn to fly a jet pack. Stuff I used to see in Call of Duty is now more realistic than ever.

As a kid I was enamored with Iron Man and believed that out of all super heroes he was the most realistic. Honestly it's starting to feel like we're edging closer and closer to that becoming a reality. And with every SpaceX or Blue Origin launch I'm reminded that my children (6 and 1) will one day have the opportunity to travel into space.

I for one can't get enough of the novels and movies.

100%. If you put the right material with the right director you can get awesome sci-fi. Blade Runner 2049 is also incredible, Villeneuve is so good at this genre.

I'm currently reading the book, still have about 150 pages to go. From what I've read so far, this movie looks like a pretty good adaptation.

Seems like we've gone through some great eras for scifi. Late 70s/early 80s, and then roughly the last decade. Alien, Blade Runner, Close Encounters of the Third Kind from back then, to Interstellar, Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, and the Dune movies now.

I hope so, it would maximize the dramatic affect of the final act.

Except that's the actual song, sung by Oasis themselves. Yes, slightly remixed, but so is damn near every pop song used in every trailer, which has been a thing for nearly 50 years now. There's a difference between that and, say, the choral cover of "Creep" in The Social Network or the orchestral version of "Sweet Child of Mine" in the Westworld season three trailer, which I agree are a little played out (but can still be effective if used effectively)...

At least as far as soundtracks it's like they're already gone.
