From Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (Spider-Man: Into/Across the Spider-Verse), and based on the best-selling novel of the same name, this is getting a ton of buzz. Like, rumblings that it's one of the best movies of 2026 kind of buzz.

However, some book readers are saying this trailer gives away quite a bit, maybe even too much. I know the plot point they're talking about, but as someone who hasn't read the book myself, if this weren't an adaptation, it seems perfectly innocuous to me, and I don't know how you avoid said plot point in the trailers.

Either way, it looks incredible - basically The Martian meets Interstellar - and I can't wait.

Oh, and it's shot by cinematographer Greg Fraser (Star Wars: Rogue One, the Dune movies, and The Batman), so pretty much one of the best in the business right now...

About to watch the trailer, but the book is 1000% worth the read. I'm not even much of a reader and loved it.

Trailer definitely gives away two of the more surprising things that happen in the first half of the book, but it looks really good! I read the book a month ago to make sure the trailer didn't spoil anything because I had heard there's no way to for it not to. Still a lot left unspoiled, though.

I sorta agree, think for the first trailer could have just stopped with the view of Rocky's ship, the connector and then the knock (and maybe seeing the hand)...then done more in the following trailers. But absolutely loved the book!

I def don't think it gave away too much.

I thought this would be a hard book to turn into a movie without it looking ridiculous but they seem to have caught the right vibe for it for sure and now I'm pretty optimistic that it's going to be awesome.

Great trailer. I really like that Harry Styles song.

Most adaptations I get excited for end up being garbage, but tentatively excited about this.

The writer is good. He did a great job on the Martian. Probably my favorite book/movie combo.

Lord and Miller are a mixed bag.

Gosling is a good an actor.

I'll give it a 75 % chance of being good.

I had the same thought - that exterior view of Rocky's ship would have been an awesome final shot for the trailer. We still have almost a year until it comes out. They should have saved at least his communication and look for another trailer.

I am almost done with the book. It's been pretty good.

Another recommendation to read the book. One of my favorites. I already know what happens but I'm still stoked to see it played out on the big screen.

Kind of a lose lose situation with the trailer. Either you give that trailer and reveal a decent amount of the book. Our you give a trailer that is just him waking up in the ship, reveal nothing, and lose most people who haven't read the book.

Unless the movie is dropping a major plot point from the book and isn't revealing the story in the same way.

Is it unusual for a studio to release a full trailer this far out? I was expecting more of a teaser with limited footage. But I'm not well versed in such things.

Read the book and then bought and listened to the audiobook. It is an incredible work of Sci-Fi.

How do you know the political beliefs of a part time commercial actress. Thats like one step above knowing the political beliefs of an adult film actress. Y'all consume too much media if you know that level of detail about these folks

Watched the trailer again. The Blip-A looks way different than I was expecting. It looks pretty awesome but not at all how it's described from what I recall. Probably doesn't make a major difference but does make me curious what other changes are in store.

Just got the book delivered today. I've already read The Martian and Artemis. Great author and I imagine this book is also great. The Martian movie had a lot of plot holes that you would miss if you didn't read the book and glad I did.

Also hope they make Artemis into a movie as well.

Amazing book, definitely really excited for this. I can't see how they do the trailer without at least mentioning what everyone is talking about as the big reveal. Also think the stories unfolding between the ship and his time on earth will be really cool to see on screen too.

Man, good on Andy Weir. Dorks out on two incredible science-fiction books (I haven't read Artemis but want to now), and then goes two for two on getting Top 5 actors as his leads.

Hope this movie works!

Not going to lie, I'm glad they showed Rocky in the trailer. As I was reading the book I found the introduction to the alien a bit off. I guess I didn't see it coming, and I didn't love that part of the book. The flashbacks, him piecing together his memories all was fine. Just didn't love the alien.

Is there anything to some of the rumors out there that they may try to move this film to 2025? I read a couple articles about how it tested through the roof and now they put out a full trailer pretty early. I know it'd be tough with Avatar this December.

I've seen it happen before, but no, it's not usual. I was definitely expecting more of a minute-and-a-half teaser trailer as well. That said, Amazon recently announced that they're going big on theaters, with plans to release 14 theatrical movies next year, which is amazing. And Project Hail Mary is their immediate crown jewel, so to speak, so I think this was more of a big, bold play of sorts for Amazon to say "Here we are." They've got some other franchise stuff coming as well - Bond, He-Man, Voltron, etc - and this essentially marks the beginning of new era for them.

Tentatively excited for this.

I am first and foremost, a reader, and loved PHM. It's the best of Weir and its not even close IMO. But I am ALWAYS wary of how Hollywood translates novels onto a screen. Obviously the big surprise is already known, Rocky, but there are a couple other things I wonder if they will change or not. Particularly the ending.

Also, the tone of the book is a critical race against time the entire novel, which is not something I really picked up from the trailer but I hope they manage to make it the theme of course. I want that edge of your seat, panicked, clock is ticking vibe that you can get from the book.

It's a book/movie where a guy goes into deep space to another star and you didn't think he would meet an alien?

Imax for this movie sounds legit. I'm not that crazy about it being a movie because there's so much going on inside the guy's head, but I guess it worked for the Martian.

Also hilarious when I hover the thread and my phone says there are negative four new posts.

In case you didn't know, same writer as the Martian.
