I get that certain mainstream media outlets have lost the public's trust over the last decade or so. But when someone immediately jumps to "they're all liars" or "we can't trust a single word any of them say," I can only roll my eyes, because only paranoid, politically obsessed people talk that way. It's especially telling when, again, the reporting consistently happens to be on the opposite side of that person's opinions/bias.

And an outlet like Puck News, who has been covering the Paramount/Skydance deal in depth, from the jump, and has proven time and again that they're embedded in the proceedings? You can't lump them in with CNN or whatever. Specifically, Matt Belloni is as legit and as plugged in as they come, has zero history of being overly political/liberal, etc.

It's just so lazy and in such bad faith to conveniently paint them all with the same brush.

Matt Belloni is pretty clearly a liberal but he does a great job of keeping it out of his reporting

No, it's called discernment. The vast majority of them have a well proven track record of shilling for the left.

I could potentially buy that. It would at least partly explain the insanely coincidental timing.

The optics of the timing ARE pretty crazy…to the extent I do wonder if purely coincidental or not. I would have cut his ass a long time ago. Not long after he was shaming people and oozing hate over the Covid vaccine. Not talking about his "vax-scene" musical crap…but some of his direct monologues which were just mean spirited.

It's not our duty or obligation to believe them. They burnt that, we didn't.

This is why I've pretty much tuned out all media, left or right, and form my own conclusions based on facts and what's most obvious. And why i absolutely loathe conspiracy theories.

Using "them" / "they" is exactly what I'm talking about, though (and not in the pronoun way), lumping all media altogether into one group of 100% bad actors.

No one said it's your duty or obligation to believe them.

What's weird is not listening to any of them, period, at all, because a portion of them are disingenuous.

That's just as paranoid as you guys are claiming I'm being about Trump.

"Discernment' in this case would mean sorting out which ones to trust and which ones not to trust. Not just outright labeling them all as untrustworthy, sticking your fingers in your ears, and ignoring the whole lot. That's where the laziness and stereotyping comes in.

In agreement that he keeps it out of his reporting, but I don't know that he's "clearly" a liberal. I go back and forth. He'll definitely have a laugh at Trump's expense from time to time, but his annoyance with "woke" every so often and willingness to call out the left in that regard, and challenge them to their faces on their other, business-related bull****, is pretty clear as well.

Thank you - genuinely - for at least acknowledging how crazy the timing was…

July 02: Paramount reaches a $16M settlement with Trump.
July 15: Skydance meets with FCC Chairman Carr to discuss Skydance's "commitment to unbiased journalism."
July 18: Paramount/CBS cancels The Late Show with Steven Colbert.
July 23: Skydance publicly promises to eliminate all DEI initiatives.
July 24: The FCC officially approves the Paramount/Skydance deal.
July 24: Carr publicly/explicitly states that the deal was allowed to go through after Skydance agreed to make "ideological changes to news programming."

Now, whether that chain of events means Paramount gave Colbert up as sweetener of sorts for the deal to be approved, or Paramount gave Colbert "cover" - or neither - it's not at all crazy to simply point out the INSANELY convenient timing, and quote the FCC chairman in the process, who came damn close to spelling it out himself.

Since conspiracy theories are popular around here. Here's one - His show was getting paid by the government to spread propaganda. How else do you explain this flip/flop?

So his show going from being a paid propaganda machine for Biden to Trump getting re-elected, gutted the financial outlook of his show. I guess in a way, you can blame this on Trump, but not in the way you've spent pages arguing in favor of.

He became the character he made a career making fun of.

Yep, one of my secret conspiracy theories for a while has been - what if shows like this and The View were being secretly propped up over time by our tax dollars through USAID/NGO's. I realize how crazy that sounds, but fewer and fewer things surprise me these days.

We do it openly with outlets like NPR and PBS, but what if there were behind the scenes efforts to dominate media on a broader scale? Lol who knows, but it's gotta be greater than 0% chance.

Ha, You could say this about so many people that were exposed during the pandemic. Rage Against The Machine revealed themselves to be pathetic Covid Karens of the highest order, for instance.

"F you, do what they tell you" should be their new motto.

I'll throw this out from left field that maybe CBS - like Michael Gary Scott - is actually a secret genius, announcing the cancellation right after the Trump settlement knowing that it would make huge waves and suddenly Colbert's getting mondo ratings for the next 10 months - or at least now when it's fresh, and next spring when he's just teeing off on anything he can think of.
At some point, some advertisers see those huge new ratings and come back into the fray, and then they "Wag the Dog" it with a fake organic campaign to save the Late Show and he gets renewed.

"I read that there was an analysis done of your work on 'The Tonight Show' for the 22 years and that your jokes were roughly equally balanced between going after Republicans and taking aim at Democrats. Did you have a strategy?" Trulio asked.

"It was fun to me when I got hate letters [like] 'Dear Mr. Leno, you and your Republican friends' and 'Well, Mr. Leno, I hope you and your Democratic buddies are happy' over the same joke," Leno recalled.

'And I go, 'Well, that's good,'" he said. "That's how you get a whole audience."

Yes, we already know media and slew of other Democrat pet causes (and some Republican ones) were being funded by USAID. I imagine you could go check that DataRepublican lady's analysis and find out if CBS was at this trough as well. She's single-handedly exposed most of the USAID money laundering scheme.

Im not going back 10+ pages and arguing with the Pepe Silva rant of certain posters, but does anyone find it ironic that on the announcement of the cancellation of the show, Adam Schiff was his main guest.

No wonder people dont watch this ***** I couldnt think of a less interesting person to interview.

Could you imagine Gutfeld bringing on the likes of Ted Cruz to his show? He wouldn't because it'd suck the life out of the room immediately.

To be fair, outside of a few random clips on YouTube over the years, I don't watch him. He may very well have had politicians on his show, but he seems smart enough to avoid that nonsense. Someone correct me if I'm wrong and I'll eat crow.

If you're truly funny and don't take yourself overly seriously, you can get even a somewhat dull guest to loosen up and provide some entertainment. But, Colbert's whole thing is like the witty, punny humanities adjunct professor.

That sounds a lot like what Colbert and Kimmel do with anyone that doesn't vote for a Democrat.

It's funny if there is balance, but it's tiresome when it's one-sided and hateful.

And they constantly do this:

He has had politicians on, but very seldom. Trump came on a month or 2 before the election.

He would actually make it about as entertaining as it could be...but yeah, he wouldn't do that to begin with, because it's a very stupid formula.

Seeing how many mid level boring ass politicians he had on...less and less doubt in my mind of government interference. People forget, they openly interfered in the 2020 election.

The modern Democrat party desperately NEEDS all of the institutions to run interference and spread propaganda for them. Hollywood, federal agencies, public radio and broadcasting, education, music industry etc. Without those things being co-opted, this country and it's political and cultural landscape would be MASSIVELY different.

I have dem buddies who will tell you as much...of course, they graduated around 2003 with me and are more of the old school 90's/early 2000's "liberals".

With the USAID slush fund drying up and their efforts having backfired with a relentless Orange Man in the office going balls to the wall in every direction, you can sense a shift. Colbert fans walking out of the State Dept with their belongings in a box was just the beginning.
