You you count all the parts of 2112 you get like 37.

I won't be shocked to see Aimee Mann only do the LA shows. I also won't be shocked if that song drops completely and I won't be shocked if a female backup is used nightly just for that.

I know they said originally it was more than 40 and they added something and took something away. The whole "my hard drive is full!" line. I wonder if adding all of 2112 was that add. It will be interesting to find out later what the original list looked like.

I bet they dump Time Stand Still completely. Replace with Bastille Day or Lakeside Park.

Doubt it is those..... but I agree I think Time Stand Still will be dropped without Aimee and I just assume she is only doing the LA shows as she lives there now (from Richmond Virginia btw). Although I guess it should be noted rush did perform the song 380+ times without Aimee Mann. they simply used to drop in pre-recorded audio for her part.

But the guitar tech sheet that listed all of the prepared songs for this tour does not include Bastille Day or Lakeside Park.

There are only three songs from that sheet that have not been played yet and I'm betting we see those on the 4th LA show:

  • The Pass from Presto which would be the first song from that album
  • The Anarchist from Clockwork Angels
  • A Farewell To Kings from the album of the same name of course

If you want to see the malfunction and derailment of 2112 from the 6/11 show here it is.....

Geddy's bass is just DOA and he immediately signals to the side crew and techs at about 1:05. Honestly they should have had a backup on the ready and swapped it out inside of 10 seconds. But they didn't. He wanders off to that side and takes it off. We get about a minute and a half of just guitar and drums. Then Alex is glancing over for a bit I think hoping he gets back....finally he gives up waiting for him, looks at Anika and they cut it off..... they restart about a minute later.

A drummer's intrusive thought would be "drum solo time" if it was further into the tour

Speaking of which I think these were the first Rush concerts since August 14, 1974 in which there was not a drum solo.

Peart performed solos 1541 times - more than any other "song" they played in concert. And really it is much more than that. Sometimes solos were interludes in songs and were not listed separately like in the R40 tour it was part of Headlong Flight and called "Drumbastica" and another short one called "The Story So Far" during Cygnus X-1. He also played smaller solos during Clockwork Angels tour plus one standalone long one. So he likely played 2000+ solos.

I'm not sure if there was ever a show that he did not do a solo????

Well I'm hoping she feels confident enough to rip one off in some shows - maybe tomorrow in night 4 of LA. Or she might feel like that's too much intruding into Neil's expertise.

In Geddy's book, My Effin' Life, he retells a great joke that he heard from Bob Geldof. Goes like this:

These explorers are traveling up the Amazon through the Brazilian rainforest. The first night, they're sitting around the camp fire and hear drums. They're alarmed, but the guide says "Don't worry. Drums fine. When drums stop, then trouble." So the next night, same thing - drums. "Don't worry. When drums stop, trouble." On the third night, the drums stop. They look at the guide in fear, and he says "Uh oh. Bass solo."

I can't imagine using a different vocalist for Time Stand Still and that is the major Neil tribute song so I'm sure it will remain in the line up - lots of video imagery for the song. I assume they'll use tracks for that if they need to.

Brian Hiatt is a massive Rush fan, and has written 2 other feature articles about them for RS. Like most of us, he was a fan before he was a teenager. (I was 12 when I bought All The Worlds, Hemispheres the next year).

I still think it's kind of weird for a 13 year old listening to that album.
I never thought about it in those terms of what age you started listening to Rush.

I was 10 when I bought the Moving Pictures LP. From 11-15, it was all pirated cassette tapes in Saudi Arabia {Signals, ESL, Permanent Waves, Signals, P/G). I didn't really get into anything pre-MP until in my late 20s when I was working in Round Rock 2 at Dell and I was constantly shopping the CD Warehouse store in Round Rock to round out my Rush collection with used Rush CDs.

But it's not the major Neil tribute - Bravado is. The video of Neil continues and plays throughout Bravado in the first set. In the case of Time Stand Still a video tribute plays before the song but it does not continue throughout the song. The images behind are live shots including of Aimee and the band.

I think that is quite intentional but who knows. The video before Time Stand Still could lead into anything after including a tribute drum solo (that is my personal little hope going forward).

But I'm fine if they keep it too.

I was 11 when I first heard Rush in 1977 when I started drumming. I was 14 and a more serious and accomplished drummer when Moving Pictures was released. Within a year I was working out the drum parts on it with my private drum instructor. By 15 I had my own band for the first time.

I was at the show Sunday night. I saw all the pictures, audio, etc. There were many Neil tributes.

If you've read some of Neil's books, specifically "Roadshow", the imagery shown on the screens during "Time Stand Still" was very much all about Neil and his passion for traveling/exploring. Particularly in the American Southwest.

They addressed his fondness for "The Macallan" in the opening XANARUSH segment.

I can only tell you what I saw from the floor on June 7th. After 3 shows, there are now tons of YouTube videos out there so you might see something different.

Also, what you see on a concert video can be a bit like watching ice hockey where the camera is following the puck but off camera, a guy is getting checked into the boards.

Fair enough. They could still do any or all of that too in some other way or other song I don't think it's tied to that song. I saw the June 9 show but who knows maybe they did more of it on June 7 or as you said maybe it just wasn't on the video i saw.

Personally I just never liked Time Stand Still in concert with that vocal pre-recorded. It's not "authentic" to me.

If they want that though as part of anything for Neil then so be it. I just hope they change it and still honor him with whatever they do of course.

Where do y'all think they stay next week. Hotel in Ft Worth, like Bowie House or The Crescent? Alex and Ged rent out a semi-mansion for a week, with a chef? I doubt they're driving back-and-forth to Dallas each night.

I'm betting it will be in Mexico City somewhere. Dallas would be a really long drive. About 21 hours.

The next 2 shows are in Mexico City not FW. June 18 and 20.

Setlist insanity continues on the 4th night in LA.

Red Barchetta is dropped for the first time leaving only a core 10 songs they play every night (including 2 variations of 2112).

Freewill is also played becoming the second song (with Red Barchetta) to be played 3/4 times.

7 songs that were played only once in shows 1/2/3 were played greatly reducing the number that have been played once.

However three new songs are played for the first time as expected (from the leaked tech sheet)
  • The Pass - making it the first Presto track
  • The Anarchist - making it the fourth Clockwork Angels track
  • A Farewell To Kings - played for the first time live since 1979

No songs from: Caress Of Steel, Power Windows, Test For Echo, Vapor Trails

Absolutely insane.

A 5th unique setlist tonight.

Encore still to come. But likely finding my way and working man

I think they may play every concert uniquely. Other than starting with Xanadu and ending with Working Man what songs you get and in what order will be unique to the night.

That's so crazy.

Actually I took someone onlines word for it but this was the same as night 3 in LA except the encore.

They swapped ByTor and Snow Dog for Finding My Way. Which is one of the two encore versions they do.

Back on this thread after a self imposed sanction to avoid spoilers. But since I was at the Mexico City show last night, here I am.

Had the VIP package with access to a lounge before the show. Really nice with lots of historical Rush items, free finger food, etc. Talked to one guy from England and the roadie who was in charge of the lounge setup. Ma

5th row center. Just an amazing show. Got the full Moving Pictures setlist. Got teary eyed during the first couple minutes of Xanadu...is this really happening?

Geddy is a wizard. How does he sing and jump around the stage like that at nearly 73?

Everyone was enthralled with Anika. Such a good choice to bring her in.

Palacio de Los Deportes is a really nice facility, especially considering how old it is. Really impressed. In true Mexican style, there must have been well over a 100 vendors in tents selling counterfeit Rush t shirts and swag just outside the facilty. Unreal.

Love Mexico City. Stay in Condesa if you ever visit. Gorgeous area. I've felt safe everywhere, including the past midnight 1/2 mile walk from the Metro station to the hotel last night.

Yesterday I snagged a 2nd row ticket for tomorrow night off StubHub for a bit over $200.

Fascinating stuff on this tour with the set list changes. I love that they are playing some Clockwork Angels, I think that has become my favorite Rush album over time, fitting for their last full album.

We plan to see them in late September in San Antonio. Iron Maiden is playing there on a Tuesday (Rush if a Friday) so we will be commuting between College Station and San Antonio twice in a week!

favorite of all time?!?!?!!?

whoa!!!

I love CA. I put it in the top 5 for sure and the fact that it came as the last album is incredible. Without a doubt for me it is the best album since Moving Pictures so the last 31 years. That is quite an accomplishment.

I haven't heard anyone say it is their favorite. So a little surprise. But I just listened to it again the other day though. Really solid and no skips. Also of course the only real, full concept album they have. I also read the accompanying novel. Loved it.

But yeah I love they are doing so many CA songs. I could do without The Garden in concert, but Caravan and The Alchemist and Headlong Flight are great. I'd love to hear The Wreckers too. Loved the CA tour when they did the entire album (except BU2B and BU2B2) with the orchestra.
