Y'all will enjoy this shag thread about the same thing, except this dude's FIL gave him the timeshare as a gift

shag

quote:
15 or so years ago, my father in law "gave" us a present of a timeshare in Conroe. Me, not knowing anything about the scam that timeshares are, agreed to take it. Now after not using the thing, ever --- I want to legally get rid of it.

I've tried just giving it back, donating to charity, renouncing ownership -- nothing works.

If I don't pay every year, they sick collections on me and throw all kinds of extra fees on top of it.

MY FIL is a total ******* and he knew at the time that he was ****ing us over with this thing.

My in laws thought they were being generous by putting their children on the deed to theirs.

I did everything I could to get my wife off the deed as fast as possible.

People still fall for this? I guess I assumed timeshare scams stopped sometime in the 1990's.

We had a unit based in Lake Tahoe with 52 week usage annually. We rented to extended family if we didn't use it. We traded weeks every other year for a place in Daytone Beach to attend Bikeweek. The maintenance fees were $500/yr. Hotel rooms for that week were $250/night and up. My brothers and I would go with a group of friends. Our unit slept 8 so we spent about $65 each for a room for a week. Once we all got busy with kids and such, we quit going and my mom sold out. If you have a particular place to attend like Daytina, it can save a lot of cash.

Bunch of ungrateful punks on this thread. They wouldn't know a good deal if...if, if...if someone set them down in a room at a nice resort and forced them to listen to a 3 hr presentation on it.

Thanks for being a good sport bluecat. Truly hope you can unload this thing.

Since us Ags are such a tough sell maybe you should post it on Shag or baylorfans. And maybe offer a $100 giftcard to anyone who will come listen to your spiel in person for a few hours.

The short-sightedness here is upsetting. I really thought we were more creative than that.
Look at it as a lakeside shag-a-cabin where every 2 years you can get away to the side-piece paradise of Lake Conroe and bag as many Sam's Boat and Papa's On The Lake beauties as possible. Dark-tanned fat chicks... all over that!!

Finally, a South Park reference.

If you start a timeshare thread without an Asspen reference, you're gonna have a bad time.

Good day,

With warm heart I offer my friendship, and my greetings, and I hope this letter meets you in good time.

It will be surprising for you to receive this proposal from me since you do not know me personally.

However, I am sincerely seeking your confidence in this transaction, which I, propose with my free mind and as a person of integrity.

A) It is practically impossible for me to carry out this business alone.

B) You live in a foreign land far away from mine.

This should normally not be a requirement, but when you understand the transaction then you will understand why it is important that you live far away from me.

C) The amount of money involved in this transaction is Fifteen Million one hundred thousand united states dollars (US$15,100,000.00) which is too much for a man of modest means like myself to handle in my country.

I believe from my few points above, you can begin to get an idea why I need your participation.I am writing you in respect of a foreign customer who has a Domicillary account in my bank.

His name was Engineer Frank oliver. He was among those who died in a plane crash, Since the demise of this our customer, Engineer Frank oliver, who was an oil merchant and import/exporter, I have kept a close watch of the deposit records and accounts and since then nobody has come to claim the money in this a/c as next of kin to the late Engineer.

He had only Fifteen Million one hundred thousand united states dollars(US$15,100,000.00) in his account and the account is coded.

It is only an insider that could produce the code of the deposit particulars.

As it stands now, there is nobody in that position to produce the needed information other than my very self considering my position in the bank.

Based on the reason that nobody has come forward to claim the deposit as next of kin,I hereby ask for you to send an application to the bank as he next of kin to the deceased and get this fund transfered into your foreign bank a/c for mutual sharing between myself and you,%5 for charity, 5% for expences we will incure just in case, 35% for you and 55% for me.

All I need is for you to follow my instructions closely because I am experienced in inheritance matters here and i am on ground here to advice you on every step until you receive the money.

What is required of you is to send an application to the bank as next of kin to the late Engineer and I promise you that everything will go smoothly.

I also indulge you not to make undo use of the information given to you, I need also to trust that you will not tell people or your bank about this business.

You will collect the money first, then I get my share, then you can tell anybody what you chose thereafter.I shall need your help to invest in your country therefore, any experience you have in this area will be beneficial.

Please feel free to call me on my direct telephone number for any question or further explanations if required and upon the receipt of your favourable responses I shall send to you a text of application which you shall send to the Bank putting claim over the deceased fund.

Yours truly,

Mr Thomos Dah

Ok, yall have me thinking now about finding the real value and making somebody a deal. This has been a good exercise on what I own, what I get, value, etc etc.

Timeshare values are based on a multitude of variables like most anything. Let me give you an example that even a Caveman or Texags reader would understand. Say I offer you an Alabama tix this Fall for $200. That might or might not be a good deal. If it is a single tix on the top row corner of the South endzone then $200 is prob not that great a deal. If it is 4 seats together at $200 each in a suite or West Club with A lot parking then that is a homerun. Timeshares trade the same way, what is the location, week you own, trading power with RCI to get other resorts, trading or Bonus time within your family of timeshares, in this case Silverleaf. So you cant say this Silverleaf timeshare is worth $1 so this other one is worth $1 just like you can't say this Bama tix is worth $200 so this other tix is worth $200, does that make sense?

KW02, you found the $1 timeshare but that is week #5, the first week Feb. Maybe good if you own in a snow ski town but not so much in Conroe. As you can imagine, in most locations the most value is going to be Spring Break, Thanksgiving and Christmas/New Years and over the Summer months. I challenge you to find a Silverleaf (SL) Piney Shores weeks 23-34 (June to August) for less than $3750, the cheapest I saw on the site you referenced was $15,900. Lets assume that's an annual usage and divide by 2 so roughly $7800.

In addition my unit was purchased prior to 2006 so I qualify for what is called Endless Escapes in odd years, the year I have access to the resort. So in the odd years, based on availability I can get unlimited Bonus time for free for up to 6 nights at time, reserved up to two weeks out. For example, today when I called I could get into any resort but this is early May, when kids are in school. Obviously it would be much more difficult over Spring Break, x mas, summer etc. Their are 13 SL resorts in places like Branson, Orlando, Canyon Lake, Georgia, East Tx, here is the complete list.

http://www.silverleafresorts.com/resorts

If you joined after 2006 you pay $50 for weekend nights. So today, I could book in Orlando or Canyon Lake for a week for free. ****, I had forgotten about this benefit, thanks for making me do the research.

So find me a SL Piney Shores that is week 23-34 and has a deed prior to 2006 that qualifies for the Endless Escapes. Also, I am a ticket broker and bot 144 tix in the New Kyle Field, 12 sections with max 12 tix and I have 20 parking passes all H lot or better. Once we all decide on a fair, apples to apples price, I will throw in 4 tix of your choice and parking pass to a game this fall.

Also, I have the 2013 and 2015 week banked with RCI(resorts all over the world and where I have traded for Vail, Breck, park city, pagosa, etc) and I will try to look over the weekend to see what is avail in CO or UT in a trade, summer months only, I don't have the trading power to get winter in those locations.

Anyway, find me a value. Gigem
