Really enjoyed that place. Thought it was a lot better than the other Berg concepts I've been to but like all of his restaurants it was quite pricey.BMX Bandit said:not the heights, but close enough is Prime 131Quote:

Speaking of Berg, have any of you guys been to Buttermilk Baby at MKT?WES2006AG said:Really enjoyed that place. definitely not cheap, but a good tip for any of Berg's restaurants is to use the "inKind" app. You get 20% off the bill if you pay with the app.CDUB98 said:Holy ****, the prices.BMX Bandit said:not the heights, but close enough is Prime 131Quote:

I'm too much of a tightwad to even walk in that door.Diggity said:definitely not cheap, but a good tip for any of Berg's restaurants is to use the "inKind" app. You get 20% off the bill if you pay with the app.CDUB98 said:Holy ****, the prices.BMX Bandit said:not the heights, but close enough is Prime 131Quote:

fair enough, I've never been either. Works for a lot of spots though.CDUB98 said:I'm too much of a tightwad to even walk in that door.Diggity said:definitely not cheap, but a good tip for any of Berg's restaurants is to use the "inKind" app. You get 20% off the bill if you pay with the app.CDUB98 said:Holy ****, the prices.BMX Bandit said:not the heights, but close enough is Prime 131Quote:

It's truly amazing how much they've grown recently, yet how solid those concepts seem to stay. Most are pricy, but they seem to always deliver the couple times a year we splurge.Diggity said:fair enough, I've never been either. If I'm going to pay for a steak, I like to go to a place I know will deliver. Nothing annoys me more than spending $300 on a meal and not enjoying it.

Count me in the camp the concept and layout of 1891 was excellent but the food just never delivered.
I went 5-6 times and every time, I'd stare at the menu because nothing stood out and it was all over the place.
Never had anything that wowed me.
They did have Shiner on draft so it was great to meet people for drinks as the bar was big enough and low key enough.
Figured it wasn't going to last but I did enjoy the bar the few times I went.
Good lobster ($65 each), sushi roll was good, can't remember if we got a steak, loud AF and seated in a 2 person table next to a rowdy 4 or 6 top, left hungry and $200 lighter.BMX Bandit said:not the heights, but close enough is Prime 131Quote:

I'd guess rent is the biggest factor. Seems like business has been booming post-Covid in the parts of town I frequent or used to frequent. But that probably goes hand in hand with rising rent costs due to demographic shifts.
I'd be curious to compare state tax receipts for food & alcohol pre and post Covid, just to see how representative my anecdotal observations are of the general trend.
If there is a slowdown in dining expenses, I would imagine that "nice/casual concepts offering bold new takes on classic American cuisine" would be the first to suffer.
Probably because nobody wants to be accosted by a crackhead while walking to a restaurant.Quote:
On an unrelated note, I feel like downtown restaurant foot traffic has slowed despite higher occupancy rates.
you hit the nail on the proverbial head. downtown has never been great when it comes to the bums. but, it is way worse now that it was back in the 2006-2014 period when i was last working here.CDUB98 said:Probably because nobody wants to be accosted by a crackhead while walking to a restaurant.Quote:
