Arsenal weren't quite ready for their press and attack but settled in and were the better squad on the whole of the last 70 minutes.

Having Partey back will help, you have to wonder if Partey is in a better position to make that harder on Dembele to keep it on goal.

And just like that we are back in the top 4 race. The league form has been absolutely terrible since February. Definitely a possibility we could finish outside the top 4 with the way we're playing and hard games left
Add in that we refuse to rotate players and they looked absolutely exhausted. Arteta has done really poor job of managing minutes.

Top 5 make Champions League and several of the teams below us play each other. If we can beat Southampton the last day of the season, hard to think we won't stick in the top 5.
But man, would be a huge bummer to see City finish above us again and unfortunately that seems more likely than not at this point.

CL Semifinal teams resting starters this weekend
Barcelona are only 4 points clear in 1st in a tight title race in La Liga. They sat 9/11 starters for today's match and look to be winning their game.
Inter rested 10/11 starters today in a MUST WIN game to remain 3 points behind leaders Napoli in the Serie A title race. Won today 1-0.
PSG rested 10/11 starters today. League clinched for them in Ligue 1 and lost 2-1.
Arsenal rested 2/11 players from the CL semi final. Lose 1-2 at home to Bournemouth and the likes of Saka, Martinelli, Lewis-Skelly playing 86 minutes. Odegaard, Rice, the full 96 minutes. Our starters looked tired after 60 minutes and Arteta really started them and played them the entire game just to lose. Meanwhile two others teams in a heated TITLE RACE rest almost their entire team, still win, and have fresher legs for their 2nd legs.
Why does Arteta refuse to rest players? We have seen us run out of gas consistently every season and nothing changes. I get that the bench are a lower level, but you can't tell me you can't get them to give 100% when they are well rested compared to our starters who clearly needed rest.

Arteta can identify talent and he can design good tactics. But I don't see any reason to think he won't overwork his teams and cause end of season mini-collapses.
He's gotten better about letting younger talent actually play on the field but he's terrible about rotation and rest. Also, we're razor thin at most of our positions.
I don't think Mikel has issue with rotation. He has shown a willingness with certain players/positions (both FBs & LW). I think the issue is that he doesn't care for the quality of depth we have at other positions. Hoping that the addition of a few players this window plus Nwaneri looking strong this season helps him trust the backups a bit more.
No coincidence in my eyes. If you were a fringe starting player, why would you join Arsenal at this point? He's proven he will not rotate, and he rides the starting lineup into the ground until there's injury. Then we don't have the talent to keep up. Seems like a direct correlation. Until he changes this, every campaign will be Russian roulette with injuries.

As I noted above, when everyone has been healthy Arteta doesn't have an issue rotating at LB, RB & LW. I don't think he is unwilling to rotate. I think we have whiffed (bad evals or couldn't get the guy we wanted) on depth at many of the other positions which leads to a lack of trust in the backups.
On a different note...... German media claiming that we are in negotiations with Jamie Gittens. He has been clear with his intent to move back to England. Supposedly Arsenal & Chelsea are talking to him and/or Dortmund and we are currently in the lead.

The online Odegaard backlash has really turned full tilt. Its kinda wild that people are so ready to move on from him after a bad year. He's been our POTY the last 2 seasons. People want to strip him of the captaincy and give it to Rice (who was pretty poor in the first half of the season). And it has been a really bad year for him. I think the injury and probably coming back way too soon from it has really cost him. Like you said, its pretty obvious that he isn't gonna play his way out of this funk and he desperately needs the summer break.
yes, I think its 90% injury related. Compared to any other sport, the live and die nature of the fan favorites is just so insane at the top levels of soccer.
Crazy part is that MOs p90 numbers are still through the roof. His pass completion % is a bit down but I think that is in part due to his ankle and in part because he is trying to force things to help the team score.
Side note...... I'm seeing tons of claims that KdB is walking away from City with him being linked to MLS and a handful of EPL clubs. He is 33 but should we be calling him to gauge interest? He's still one of the more creative MF in the EPL, he's familiar with Arteta and could slot in to spell MO allowing him to get a break occasionally. Maybe even slot him in on the left when we need more creativity.
I'd be down for that if he's fine knowing its a back up role and not on insane wages.
Everything I've read on him insinuates MLS or possibly even Wrexham. Not sure I see him playing in England under the Premier League Level though.

I think a lot of the heat pointed at Odegaard is because he's not scoring. 0.08 goals per 90. 1 non penalty goal in the EPL this year. He's missed good chances and he's looked indecisive or unsure when he needs to be taking shots. And to be honest, that's definitely a problem.
