Thing is, beating Burnley isn't a given. Not now.

I was half kidding before but reading the post game pieces it's obvious where this is headed. Beat writers that have typically played up patience and looked for positives have turned. When that happens, it's usually the beginning of the end. He's playing for his job on a game by game basis. If United lay another egg on Saturday, I wouldn't be surprised to see him go.

My guess is that he'll scrape together enough of a response on Saturday to stick around for a while. But when you lose even the sunshine pumpers, it's just a matter of time. Can't perform well in a constant do or die situation. Unless a miracle happens (or gross incompetence by management) he'll be gone in October at the latest.

I think he's on borrowed time. The fixture list just isn't conducive to getting wins. The team is staring at 1-4-1 to start the league.

I just can't imagine who would want to come in to take over this mess.

While there is no doubt Amorim's complete inflexibility on trying to find a system that the current players can succeed in, the players own a huge part of this too. They are pros. You can't tell me none of them know how to play a 3-4-3 and are incapable of figuring it out.

ESPN has a whole article detailing the memes from Amorim fiddling with the magnetic board during the game yesterday. As soon as I saw the cut to that during the game, I knew it was going to become a meme, much like our beloved club.

Someone made the comment that he may have been able to survive the game but he definitely won't survive that picture.

Sounds like there is a very strong likelihood he bails during the international break no matter the result against Burnley. I believe him when he says that he will walk away if he thinks he's no longer the right person for the job. And he said a lot last night to suggest that he thinks he isn't. Unless United beg him/convince him otherwise, I think he's gone during the break. I think he's lost the belief and he won't do it if he doesn't have it.

Should also be said that this was always the worst possible scenario when Ineos decided to build an entire ethos around a coach who was wedded to a style of play that United's roster was not a match for. This was always the risk when they abandoned their "we want to build a club ethos and fit players/coaches into it" for the exact opposite.

They bet huge on Amorim being special enough to overcome those obstacles and it appears like they got it wrong. And honesty they've gotten pretty much every big decision wrong in the 18 months they've been the decision makers at the club. They've been very different than Woodward but not anymore effective and making good decisions.

I'm genuinely sad about Rashford. If Amorim goes, I will be begging for us to convince Rashford to come back after his loan. This guy… I won't miss him nearly that much. 24 G+A in PL over 4 years doesn't justify thinking you are undroppable and Ronaldo. Bicycle kick was an amazing goal, but he's one of those guys that is shooting if he's anywhere in the final third and can see the goal.

If (big if) Amorim is gone at the break, I would not sell any more players. Who knows what the next guys will do, who he will favor or not, etc.

Frankly they better be talking to potential replacements now and they better be asking them "what would you do with this squad?"

ETA: ok one exception to my rule. I would sell Onana now. I dont care to who and I dont care for how much. He is done playing GK here.

Once again we have to settle for selling a player under value...glad Garnacho is gone and hope he remains a cancer for Chelsea to deal with but it's crazy that we refused to stand firm on our valuation again

The whole club is a shambles.

No chance United sanction a Mainoo loan now. They have no one to replace him with. I don't blame Kobbie and I love the fact he specifically asked for it to be temporary, but it's not happening.

If Amorim is still around, he really could make this a much smaller issue by rotating Bruno into his actual, normal spot and benching Cunha and/or Mbeumo on occasion. That probably won't happen in the first month or so, but there's no reason to write Cunha and Mbeumo in as 38 game starters in the league...especially if one of them isn't scoring goals. Cunha will likely fall off in form relative to last year. I see no reason why a Bruno in attacking mid and Mainoo/Ugarte - Casemiro pairing in midfield couldn't get 15-20 league games this season.

Btw, I don't really know, personally, why Mainoo can't play with Bruno. Compared to Ugarte, he doesn't do as much defensively, but he can help progress the ball, which Ugarte can't at all (as we've seen). Bruno and Mainoo is not an athletic pairing, but neither are the other options really. If we are hoping to find the pairing that allows Bruno to scoot forward and basically be the third, central attacking mid between Cunha and Mbuemo… I don't think that is going to happen with any of them.

I've already commented on the Garnacho fee. It's not really news in my opinion and the fact that it's such a talking point is just another example of the absolute absurdity that people toss at this club.

I'm guessing the deal is more or less done which is a little surprising given Amorim's status. United hierarchy have backed him but they won't be able to much longer if a couple more poor performances pile up...and I fully expect that to happen because I think Amorim has officially lost the majority of United media and supporters. Garnacho could be an asset with another manager but perhaps United leadership had already written him off as a locker room liability no matter who the manager might be.

Oh, and apparently Solskjaer was fired by Besiktas after they failed to qualify for the Conference League group stage. Time to get the band back together? He already came in to save us from one Portuguese manager...why not make it two?

ETA: In hindsight, he was never going to last long there. They only signed him to a 1 1/2 year contract that started in January. He took over from Giovanni van Bronkhorst who was fired after 5 months when he only had Besiktas in 6th. Ole only lost 2 games after he was hired and got them into 4th. Seems like he was fired solely for falling out of Europe (they got hammered by Shakhtar Donetsk in Europa League qualifying and the last night lost to Lausanne after their LB was red carded in the 46th minute).
