I really like the Fofana idea. The two footed ball handling is a big check and his age. Building depth is critical and Arsenal need to take advantage of these financially strapped player situations.

If legit, I feel like this would be Arteta leaning on the EPL experience. If that is the angle, I think I would prefer Rogers (younger). If it's the LW/AM multi-position angle, I'd likely lean Rogers or Xavi Simons. Still think the smarter buy might be Fofana for W depth.

Anyone else laughing that this is supposed to be the big attacking signing summer and our first signings will be CBM, GK, CDM and possibly CB.

He'd be Saliba's backup I believe. So currently we'd have

RCB: Saliba/Mosquera
LCD: Gabriel/Kiwior
LB: MLS/Ricky C.

Believe he has also played some RB so he could also be insurance against continued injury issues with White & Timber.

Very interesting. I don't see any way we get a striker, winger and Eze all in this window. At least not without a major outgoing. I do like the idea of signing Eze because he is that proven PL quality maverick that would bring a lot of creativity to the attack which we really need.

Where exactly does Eze get minutes there? Merino doesn't get many minutes as is an I don't want anyone preventing Nwaneri or Dowman from proper development.

Couple more points on Eze.....

- To me this screams of over correction of the squad due to injuries the last couple seasons. The end result would be players not getting enough playing time unless someone gets hurt.
- Personally I think the Eze stuff is going to die. Orny says that he would be in addition to a ST & W and that we want to undercut the 68m release clause. I don't see Palace letting him go for less and I don't see us willing to pay 60+ for a squaddie after (likely) spending big on a ST & W. Only way I see it happening is if Merino were to leave and that seems very unlikely given he just arrived.

If we can make it work financially, then I say go for it. He ticks all the boxes. He's creative, he's combative, he can play in two positions or even spell odegaard. He's PL proven and experienced. If Pep can make squad rotation work with their plethora of riches, so can we. I'm not worried about Dowman's development. I still think he's a year away from being close to a factor in the first team. At best he might get a League Cup game this year.

That said, I don't want to mess up our budget and prevent us from getting a top winger which is arguably the biggest need in the squad (in terms of improvement).

I 10000% see the argument and his potential value. My biggest hangup is where the minutes come from in MF.

- Outside of injuries occurring to key players, we would have to find CM minutes for Rice, Merino, MO, Nwaneri, Dowman, Eze & Havertz.
- There are 2 CM positions, 38 league games and 90 min per game. That's 6840 min to distribute to all of those guys (half of that per position).
- Nwaneri had 895 min split between RCM & RW in his debute season. He likely gets more minutes (1500?) this year but still plays both positions. Let's assume he & Dowman are probably 500-600 min combined at RCM.
- Rice has played a minimum 2800 league min for the last 7yrs. Outside of his ankle issue last year, MO had been doing the same for us. I doubt Arteta would do it but, let's assume we cut back their minutes to 2500 each.

That leaves us approx 1300 min of league time to split between Merino, Eze & Havertz.

Orny..... If Martinelli were to leave, you can see them bringing in a top left winger. If he's not to leave, I don't think so. We've reported on Rodrygo & Gordon, but I think that's if Martinelli leaves, not if he stays. Maybe I'm interoperating that incorrectly but that sounds to me like our choice of winger is in part about whether Marti wants to go.

TN&T - Sesko looking unlikely. Leipzig want 83m euro and are asking for it in a single up front payment. Arsenal felt Leipzig would budge on their demands and Leipzig feel as if Arsenal aren't "putting their best foot forward".

Martinelli isn't going anywhere, at least not for what we all value him at.

And there isn't a single club out there (unless they're backed by oil) that is going to pay 83m up front. Not one club is doing that nor does Sesko's numbers honestly reflect that price currently.

Martinelli - I tend to agree. I think Arteta rates Marti and would want to keep him no matter who we sign. I could see the argument that Marti may want to leave if we signed Rodrygo but I also think there is a chance that Trossard asks to leave if/when we sign another W. Best case we likely keep Trossard 1 more season (his contract expires next summer) unless he ends up getting more minutes. If I'm choosing between 24yo Marti vs 30yr Trossard, I'm taking Marti all day every day. And I would rather keep Marti and sign a depth/development LW rather than sign Rodrygo. Rodrygo looks like he could be good but his output isn't any better than Marti and he is a year older.

Sesko - If true, that is insane. Only team I could see going for anything like that are PSG (they don't have a legit ST), Newcastle (if Isak is sold) or a Saudi club.

Supposedly Eze is a separate deal. Reputable people claiming that we are looking to add Eze + ST + W. Sounding like Eze may effectively be a little younger & quicker version of Trossard but with a more central tendency.

I saw a theory on another board that suggested Arteta is a bit shell shocked by our injuries the last 2-3 seasons and is looking to setup a 2 deep for next season.....

LCB - Gabi, Kiwior (likely snag a left-footed option if he moves)

Some of that is still a little up in the air but the logic makes sense. There is also rumor that we are negotiating for Madueke. The thought there is that we end up with Eze OR Madueke with Nwaneri backing up Saka or MO depending on which we sign.

Don't want Madueke. Just not impressed with what little I've seen of him. I also think Rodrygo is a pipe dream with what his fee and wages will be. Which leads me back to there just not being a lot of better options on the market for a new LW thats a significant upgrade on what we already have.

Ill go a step further and suggest Rodrygo may not be as big an upgrade as people think. He does a few things better than Martinelli but he isnt half yhe defender and I've seen a number of people question his ability to adjust to greater physicality. I watched him a decent bit when we played in CL and he didn't stand out.

I honestly don't think there is a slam dunk option that exceeds Marti. Id prefer to see us add a younger guy and insted work to increase our tempo like the season when Marti scored 15. That season Saka & Marti were constantly 1v1 because we were moving the ball much quicker.
