This is the official thread for Group J. Group J brings current champions Argentina, Algeria, Austria and newcomers Jordan to the stage
3x and current reigning Champions Argentina return as one of the favorites this year. They are the current ranked #1 team in the world. They have talent everywhere but everything still runs through Lionel Messi. He has been carrying an injury and there are some concerns for the 38 (soon to be 39) year old in what will probably be his final major tournament. Also have the best penalty stopper and most annoying goalie in Emi Martinez. Algeria return to the World Cup for the first time since 2014 when they advanced to the Ro16. Austria are back after a 28 year absence. They had a 3rd place finish in 1954. They have an experience group with David Alaba, Marcel Sabitzer and Marko Arnautovic that should get them out of the group stage. Debutants Jordan are one of 4 new teams at the World Cup. They are led by Musa Al-Taamari who is the only player that plays in one of the top leagues.
----------------------------------
Argentina cruise through one of the easiest groups they could have gotten. Austria equalize with no time left to keep themselves in 2nd place. Algeria finish 3rd like they wanted so they avoid Spain. Jordan go home but at least they scored against Argentina.
