I think it's a no brainer to take Harper but is anyone else getting Uncle Dennis/LeVar vibes from his dad? I can't stand the outspoken dad trend in the nba. Hopefully Ron will tone that stuff down.

Not worried. I think Ron just wants to make sure his kid lands in the best spot possible.

Also, from his interviews, I think he's much closer to his mom than his dad and he said that his dad talks too much on Twitter

Ron deserves some complaints for sure, but gotta love him putting that asshat Dusty Garza in his place

In Dusty's defense, he didn't say teams brought him in for a workout. Just that he's worked out for multiple teams. Daddy Harper arguing that teams came to watch him workout is kind of an odd thing to try and take issue with.

That being said, I haven't had any issue with anything Ron has said. He hasn't said he doesn't want Dylan in SA or said anything negative that I've seen. I think some Sours fans are just being sensitive that he hasn't overwhelmingly gushed about potentially being drafted by SA.

Working out for teams is a very specific thing that is part of the draft process. You get interviewed, you do the drills or even 1 on 1 drills with players, coaches, or even other draftees.

The Spurs have a BBIQ test that they make players take that Pop started creating in the 90s and it is kind of similar to the Wunderlic. I don't know if the Spurs or Pop has talked about this, but the first person to get a perfect score on it was Tim Duncan. Tim turned it in with notes about how to improve the test.

Watching Harper workout with his trainers or in an open gym is VERY different.

I just moved to Bloomington for work, I'm pumped for what the Pacers have been able to do this post season. True wizardry from Carlisle to get this team in this situation.

I like how the team is built, but also... look at how they have Hali, Nembhard, Spicy P, and TJ McConnell that can all initiate the offense. I like our team building direction with Wemby, Fox, Castle, and Harper.

OKC made a concerted effort to take Hali out of the game, and it was pretty amazing to see Nembhard step up in the 4th and lead the team.

Once again the Pacers needed like 5 consecutive things to go right for them in order to make a miracle comeback and it happened.

Nembhard 3
Stop
Nembhard airball put back in by Siakam
Stop (actually 2 stops on this possession)
Hali Jumper to win it

And that's after Obi Toppin and Myles Turner and TJ McConnell kept them in the game with big shots in the second half. Big time team effort.

Yeah it is crazy, but these have been happening all playoffs for them it seems.

It shows the need for depth and play creation. Which is why all the desire to star hunt and give up depth drive me bonkers.

I see Chet must have attended the Fetterman School of Fashion for high school.

I posted it the other day, but GQ Sports asked him all his favorite books and they were all coffee table picture books.

What assets do they have that Milwaukee would want? They don't have the draft capital to make it happen.

Edit: Would definitely need a 3rd team involved. OG, Hart, etc. being converted into picks.

Gonna resurrect Point Giannis when they hire Kidd away from the Mavs?

It's possible that we'll see more teams look at this model.

The LeBron super friends team and the Celtics OG big 3 kind of ushered in the thought that you could only win championships with 3 stars, but with the new CBA, it seems unlikely that anyone can really have 3 stars in their primes for very long now. 2 stars plus depth is probably the way forward if you want to win consistently.

People that want Durant have to look at the salary that comes with it. He probably wants a 2y max extension with it. That second year (his age 39 season) would be about 35% of the cap. Wemby's extension starts that year and with a DPOY next year, it would be 30%. Fox likely gets 30%. That's 95% of the cap for those three players.

Absolutely does not work
AggieEP

Ideally, you can keep reloading around your 2 stars indefinitely with draft picks if you hit on enough of them to find a third star that you plan to deal when they become max eligible.

We've talked about this already, but if OKC can deal Jdub in 2-3 years and recoup 3 more firsts, that's their path to contending without busting the 2nd apron.

You pay Chet and SGA and continue to cycle through rookie scale guys and vets to fill the rest of the roster out.

As a fan... it kind of sucks because you eventually have to break part of your homegrown core up, but for the parity of the league it's great as it helps disperse talent among all franchises.

Spurs are trying to hire Sean Sweeney away from the Mavs as the last assistant for Mitch

After seeing last night's game you see how large the gap is between the Spurs and great defensive teams, even with Victor. I'll take anything we can get to improve our defense. We haven't had a good one post Kawhi.

We really are in full blown, certifiable, silly season, aren't we??

Spurs trade back from 2 to 5, for KD and John Collins? Send out vassell, Keldon, Barnes and 14?

Not sure how I feel about that. Would rather have Kessler than JC

KD isn't worth #2 and John Collins sure as hell ain't worth any lottery pick.

Draft athleticism metrics:

Harper pretty high up, right there with Fears.

Carter Bryant and Cedric Coward are elite. Fleming is good, around where Cooper Flagg is.

Malauch and Queen look pretty bad. I was surprised that Rocco was average, but he was 7'3 barefoot with the best standing reach in the class with his 32" vertical. I'd still take him at 38.

Where are these metrics from? I'd like to know how they're grading their athleticism.

It's based on performance at the combine, which is why you don't see the guys like Traore or Essengue on it

Essengue continue to dominate the playoffs. He might not even be an option at 14 at this point, even though I prefer Bryant.

Might steal this guy from the Mavs, according to Marc Stein. He's essentially Kidd's defensive coordinator. Luka also got him hired to be an assistant coach for Slovenia. He was also video coordinator under Avery Johnson for his first job in the NBA.

Sean Sweeney's Coaching Profile
Sweeney has been with the Mavericks since 2021 and has worked closely with head coach Jason Kidd since their time together in Milwaukee and Brooklyn. In Dallas, he's handled responsibilities on both sides of the ball and is particularly recognized for his developmental work with younger players, including standout center Dereck Lively II.
Sweeney is known as a defensive-minded coach with a strong tactical foundation and has earned consistent praise for his ability to build relationships with players across the roster.
Before joining the Mavericks, Sweeney served on Dwane Casey's staff with the Detroit Pistons. His familiarity with multiple team structures, adaptability, and professionalism helped elevate his profile during last year's hiring cycle. He was a finalist for the Pistons' head coaching job before hiring J.B. Bickerstaff last summer.
-----

Described by league sources as someone who has an unrivaled work ethic, Sweeney is one of several candidates for the Phoenix Suns head coaching vacancy.

"He is a winner that will hold players accountable," one league source said about Sweeney.

------

Influence on Giannis Antetokounmpo:

"Summer was for the Greek national team, for family and for grinding at the Bucks' training facility or wherever business took him. For Antetokounmpo, Bucks assistant Sean Sweeney and not LeBron or Kevin Durant or anyone else would be his preferred workout partner"

Cued up around 34m. Windy talks about Matt Ishbia. Ishbia said that he made the classic new owner mistake of not being more involved and will be directly involved in everything now.

Durant for Keldon and Branham incoming.

Good read from KOC. No new information, but covers all of the concerns and possibilities surrounding the #2 pick. KOC has seemed pretty low on us keeping the pick and taking Harper, but his reasoning behind it is valid.
