I've seen several articles about how everyone besides Flagg should be traded or available. Im a big fan of Lively, I want them to hang onto him.

I wonder if some of these teams like OKC that have a slew of first rd picks they don't need "now" would want to start rolling those out to future picks. If nothing else, they give a 2026 first and get back a 2028 first. Something similar to that…

Little media dump here, but after the game in Memphis last Friday, Moussa Cisse picked up his diploma.

You can do that but it's usually expensive. Minnesota needed a pick on 2024 and traded a 2030 unprotected swap and 2031 unprotected 1st to get it.

Spurs and OKC are trying to acquire lots of swaps as well, so they can move down easily. Spurs have 5 swaps available in the next 6 drafts and the strongest protection is top-1

Dirk continuously shows why he's just the best DFW athlete ever.

Dirk is just a good human; loyal, hard working, kind, and respectful. This is one of the harshest things I've heard him say, and it took an interloper gutting the heart and engine of our franchise. That should make Nico weep if he had any self-awareness.

Guys on The Ticket this morning said that as of this weekend, Cooper Flagg has already played more minutes in a Mavs uniform than Anthony Davis.

HUGE OT win vs the Blazers after dropping a tough OT game Friday. Offensively, Coop played like a MAN in the paint. Aggressive finishing, great passes. Best game of the season for Gafford. Going to MN tonight to complete a tough back to back.

Presti has been doing this the last few years.

They acquired an unprotected 2027 Clippers swap as part of a three team trade where they effectively sent their own 2026 first to Philly.

During the 2025 draft they traded #24 (Nique Clifford) to the Kings for the Spurs' 2027 top 16 protected first. From what I understand, this was a last minute deal because Presti wanted to trade #15 and #24 to move up and get Queen, but the Pelicans came in at the last second with their ridiculously stupid offer that might haunt them for a decade.

Presti will no doubt be looking to trade forward some picks this year. I'm guessing the Rockets pick they own (prob mid 20s) will be auctioned off for a 2030+ swap (perhaps with some light protections).

I am not an really an NBA guy, nor am I really a Mavs, Rockets or Spurs guy, but the position the Mavs are in is absolutely fascinating from a GM/roster management perspective. They are up to the gills in salary for players who are oft injured and do not really fit the future of the team, but they are so expensive that they are incredibly difficult to offload.

On top of that the 2026 draft appears to be just as good as 2025 draft was, if not better, and the Mavs have their own pick (they don't for like the next five years minimum). It would behoove them to be terrible this year, but not really next or thereafter. On paper it doesn't seem like they are going to be as bad as Washington, Brooklyn, Sacramento, New Orleans or maybe even Indiana without Haliburton. They just need to make sure they end up with top 10 odds.

So they want to tank and offload salary for one year only, but in order to do that they need to get guys back on the court to increase their trade value but could also help them win a few more games. What a conundrum.

It will not be hard at all to off load Davis or Kyrie. Klay's contract is just 10% of the cap, so while he performs at a lower rate, most teams will see him as someone that will improve in performance if put in the right situation with the right players. He needs to be set up more and needs a team with good passing to do that for him. Plenty of teams need shooting and have players to put around him.

Yeah, I think everyone agrees their plan is to tank for the 26 pick to get a player to add to Flagg. Dallas is only 2.5g out of last place and about 35-38% chance of a top 4 pick as it currently stands.

You can get guys reps on the court without winning.

The Mavericks argue that they legally became the sole operator of the AAC last year, when they delivered a $100 bill and a $10 bill to the Stars in an "Attempted Takeover Letter" payment they say satisfied the buyout clause triggered when the Stars moved their headquarters to Frisco in 2003.

Quote:

According to the Stars, filings with the Texas Secretary of State show that the Mavericks' ownership designated Las Vegas, Nevada, as the club's official principal business location. WFAA looked into those claims and verified that, as of March 21, 2025, the Mavericks' address is in Vegas, per the Secretary of State's business records.

Pretty interesting article here about the power struggle between Cuban and Nico after the sale of the Mavs went through, and how it ultimately ended up in Luka out the door. Not a good look for either of them IMO. Doesn't shed too much light on new info, but interesting perspectives.

Seems like there is some separation happening at this point in the tank race. The bottom 11 teams appear to be:

Hornets, Nets, Pacers, Wizards, Portland, Utah, Clippers, Grizzlies, Mavericks, Kings, and Pelicans.

From the Mavericks perspective I think it would be hard, if not impossible, to out-tank the Wizards, Pacers, Nets, and Pelicans. I would also like to think that the Clippers will get themselves off this list as they have no motivation to be bad. I'm thinking the actual range for the Mavericks is 5th - 10th best odds.

The biggest concern is that Portland and Utah are in the tank zone, but also hold the 9th/10th play-in spots for the playoffs. Which means the Mavericks are only 2 games out of the play-in. I'm very concerned that someone will want to see Nico's vision with AD/Kyrie and try to get into the play-in. The Mavericks have the talent to pretty easily jump this list and blow any good chance at a top 3 pick.

I'm so tired of Cuban's bull***** He out here trying to provide as much cover to himself as possible. Like, we're supposed to believe that he was cut out by Nico but still maintained enough power to 'coup' him later? Nico deserves every ounce of criticism he gets, but Cuban was the guy who hired Nico and sold the team to a guy who knows nothing about the NBA and then tricked himself into thinking he'd still have control.

I honestly think we can out tank any of those teams as long as Kyrie is out. We have no shot creators or playmakers and we'll continue to be the worst offensive team in the league. We may luck into a few wins, but I think we'll clearly be a bottom 5 team if/when Kyrie comes back.

We also have the worst medical staff in the league and the injuries are only going to pile up.

Also, keep in mind that the Mavs have had a BABY SOFT schedule so far. Friday and Saturday will be our 13th and 14th home game out of 18 games played and mostly against terrible teams. Things are about to get much harder for this team.

Yea I think Cuban thinks that fans will look at him as a white knight coming in to save the day. No dip ****, we still look at you as the dip **** that started all of this mess. There is nothing you can do to make your relationship with fans go back to what it used to be.

One of those rare sport stories where this is no true "good guy"

Cuban - dip **** who sold the team to Dumont in hopes of casino profits down the line. Was dumb enough (or lied) to think he would retain control of the team. Constantly vying for media attention / credit.

Nico - dip **** who decided to trade away a super star because he got his feelings hurt. Then goes and trades him for a washed up injury prone player and way undersells Luka's trade value.

Dumont - dip **** who bought an NBA team that was humming along smoothly just for potential casino laws in TX to get changed, and manage to **** everything up in < 1 year

I lament I have but 1 'star' to give. Beautiful summarization of the triumvirate of Mavs dip****s.

Cuban didn't pull off a coup, reality did. Cuban now gets a seat at the table, because the reality of Nico's trade has hit hard and hit financially. Dumont is naive to basketball. It's not white knight save the franchise Cuban, it's prevent another royal **** up. He's a minimize the downside voice because he at least understands something approaching fair value.

Heartbreaking loss to the Knicks last night! No Flagg; out with a tummy ache or something. Too bad b/c this one was winnable. Naji and D-Lo balled out. B-Will almost tied it w/ a last second layup after NY was missing ALL the FTs. What do you think? Is this an offensive foul at this point in the game?! No way a superstar gets this called on them.

Do we have the worst medical staff in the league? Not even kidding. How did he pass a physical? Not only did we have to stretch waive Omax to sign him, but now we can't cut Exum without hard capping ourselves. And he hasn't played a minute of basketball so all this should have been known prior to signing.

This is absolute malpractice.

This is where I am. Dumont kicked Cuban out and was too dumb to realize you don't trade a top 5 player that is beloved by fans. Once the fans revolted, he had to offer Cuban a seat at the table to try to right the ship.

It was, and still is, a den of dysfunction. Less with Nico gone now, but right now it's a lot of cooks in the kitchen with Tommy Boy the one making the ultimate call. Clearly Cuban and Dumont cannot trust each other regardless of past "friendship", then 2 co-GMs stuck in the middle who don't have the power to order more toilet paper for the office. I won't have any comfort until they get a real GM.
