Looks like we will have an all-walk-on team next year. Doesn't appear to be any interest among the portalees in playing for this staff. Why we need such a bloated staff for such little production is beyond me.

Can we tell that there's no interest or is that just an assumption? Genuinely asking.

She will have transfers come in, I'm sure. How good are they? Probably not good enough to be competitive in the SEC.

Looks like the men's job is the priority with Buzz potentially leaving for Maryland.

Alright, so that's even worse. Barker chose here having never played for her. Then after playing for her 2 seasons, she left. So we have got ZERO recruits who played for Joni in the U18 Olympics team? RED FLAG

Well that wouldn't cost us a thing if he leaves and would be welcomed by most. That doesn't excuse Trev Alberts from letting our women's basketball program tank into the bottom of the dumpster.

no, Janiah had comitted to Coach Taylor when she was at Georgia. She FOLLOWED Coach Taylor to TAMU

Johnnie is a tremendous post coach! Baylor is lucky to get her. Makes sense now the Auburn to BU transfer I posted earlier.

Not sure I'd want TCU's coach after that game vs Sips. If they weren't strategically unprepared, then TCU has significantly less talent than Sips.

The question is does A&M just want to field a team. If so just hire the cheapest coach available. If A&M want to have a winning program then it's going to cost. In my opinion the best coach out there is an Aggie with a proven track record as an A&M assistant and a head coach at Miss State and now Texas. I have heard from a personal friend of his he really wanted the A&M job when Blair retired. I would guess it would take his buyout and a competitive salary to get him. So it appears a decision needs to be made whether to field a team or get a proven coach. I would also ask the question about available coaches: why are they available?
this is not going to happen. He has said he only wants to coach to a certain age & he is fast approaching that age. $$ & age = NOT COMING TO A&M
Id rather have Staley or Mulkey. They have skins as HCs.
You have a better chance to coach the team yourself than either one of them moving - Dawn the highest paid coach in WBB makes $4Mil yr plus bonuses contract runs through 2030 and escalator of $250,000 per year the real kicker is If Staley decides to leave South Carolina she would owe the university 100% of the remaining compensation left on her deal through 2030. so scratch that!!!!!!! She owes nothing if she goes to the WNBA or NBA

It kind of became urgent to take them down after Buzz left for Maryland. There will be a new version next year.

Joni is going to be back next year. I'm not opining on whether I think that should be the case. I'm just factually stating that the decision has been made that she will return.

The decision? Or they just had no conversations about it and she continues her contract? Most schools will not move on from a coach after 3 years when they've signed a 5 year contract. I'm more interested in the men's program now. I think Buzz topped out here and left at a good time. Interested to see where TA goes for this hire. I do believe it would have been nice to see a change in both programs at the same time is it would have been a good comparative metric of program growth between the two new hires. As of now, the men have lost 10 to the transfer portal (as expected). I think we just have to have very low expectations for the women's program. We just hired the wrong coach and have to suffer thru one more year unfortunately.

They've been wanting to get rid of her at Arizona for awhile. Not a very good hire by SMU I don't think.

Our AD must not be paying attention or care. If players do not want to play at A&M, the program is well beyond the point of needing a change. Sad.

I'm telling you, after listening to the AD in his interview with TexAgs...they asked specifically about when he knows it's time to move on from coaches. Trev's answer was very indicative of his thoughts on the two sports that need replacements (soccer and WBB); he did not call those sports out specifically, but at the time they were and truly are the only sports that are a struggle bus right now. It was not necessarily exactly what he said but more of the tone of the delivery where I immediately knew we would not be replacing our WBB coach this year. I know there's another poster on here that likes to say that's not what he was saying, but that's what I took from the conversation. I think, from what I read into it, he feels like he hasn't been around long enough to analyze the program and wonders if they have received the same resources (he mentioned wondering if they've received everything they need from him). I mean we could go on and on about volleyball and softball and tennis, etc., but I think this was a financial decision as well as a "we're going to let this play out" next year scenario. If you look at our history, we have never fired someone after 3 years from what I can remember. It's usually year 4, or they move on to somewhere else. That would be my analysis of why Joni is still here. He may have also seen a spark in year two for her since we made the tournament and she may have convinced him that the only reason she lost athletes is either 1) she asked some to move on, and/or 2) she didn't have the resources to compete with NIL offers from other programs. Joni takes me as the type of coach that is trying to build a program of athletes that just want to be here (and not necessarily be paid to be here). Unfortunately, in today's NIL world, that won't win.

I have no answer for why the soccer coach is still our soccer coach. It appears they are letting him have his Gary Blair moment, and we know first-hand how that has turned out.

Letting a coach stick around to have their moment is exactly why Vic is not our WBB coach.

I've quietly been discussing our soccer coach and moving on from him for ~8 years. After that beautiful 2014 run, we've been aboard the struggle bus. I can think of no reason other than he has literally built the program and they're afraid of backlash and outcry.

There would be very little backlash. As long as the programs treads water, it looks as if he will be given his Gary Blair moment. I will say, from an outreach standpoint, he does appear to be doing a lot more than he has the past few years. He is at Albion, HTX, Legacy, and Challenge (The Wooodlands area) hosting meet and greets and coaching clinics. Looks as if he's trying to recruit the local talent more effectively. From some of the high level GA, National, ECNL level parents of athletes I know, he is drawing more interest once again. Not sure what has changed or if he will keep it up, but I take that as a positive.

Posters on here said Blair and Vic are no longer friends, Blair said this on his interview today,

"I got my friend, who is the head coach of Texas women's basketball, Vic Schaefer. He would be here, but Sydney Carter will be there. Schaefer is out turkey hunting."

Pretty interesting lol

no way Sydney would be their HC if that what he means. I don't really know what that means.
