Glad to see Rosemeyer getting included in the list. They have been my safe haven the last six months or so when Corkscrew got blown up with that Michelin star. I guess they might be crazy, too, from now on.

Mum Foods has become my favorite spot in Austin. The smoked pastrami, turkey sandwich, pimento cheese, and breakfast items are so damn good. Their brisket and glazed ribs are good as well. Plus, off the beaten path so almost no tourists, and they have a good coffee bar attached.

Piece of cake. 8 people in line in front of me. only waited about 10 minutes. Their Jalapeño Havarti & Beefy sausages and bologna is sold out. The extra hype hasn't landed yet.

I remember I was at interstellar the last time the last came out and there wasn't a line. I imagine upcoming weekends will be a different story.

Still think Truth is overrated. It's really good, but every time I go there I think I should have gone to Pinkertons or Pit Room instead.

Interesting list for sure. Looks like bbq with TexMex influence is the hot trend. Can't wait to dive in to the list and plan some trips to try these places.
Interesting, Truth is by far my favorite spot. Now, I haven't been to most of the non-Houston places on the list. But I'd choose Truth over Pit Room and/or Pinkertons any day (I do like all of them, though).
what about Corkscrew??

I havent been to either in a year or so but I would never put Truth in the same planet as Corkscrew in years past

Yet again, there are several in the Honorable Mentions list that I think are far better than several in the Top 50.

I'll just pick on one in particular: Louie Mueller in my opinion is a TX BBQ institution, but it's been pretty average the past couple of times I've stopped. I'm sure they get a little extra credit because of their historical status. Idk
I'll add Hutchins BBQ to that list. Always great BBQ with great sides despite the volume of people they serve every day

I would say that Truth is the best in Houston proper, but Corkscrew is my favorite overall.

I wasn't blown away by Pinkerton's or pit room. To be fair I've only been to either of them once. They were good, but not hype worthy for me.

It's what you expect from a top ten place. Meats were basically flawless. The moist brisket and pork belly were phenomenal. They were out of their two main sausages, and im told the jalapeño havarti is the best thing on the menu. Both sides I got were excellent.

If I HAD to be picky, I thought the lean brisket was sliced too thick and the weekly special blueberry sausage didn't blow me away. But honestly, no real complaints. Deserving of its honors.

Yep, drive by every day.

2-3 years ago you could roll up at 10:30 and be first in line. Those days are long gone.

Has Vaughn ever done a list of joints outside of Texas doing TX BBQ? As I move about the country on avg every 2-3 years there's some really good spots outside of Tx, often times run by Texas ex-pats. I've found some really solid spots in LA, central coast CA, Orange County, and now a really great spot here in Colorado Springs run by a couple from Cypress. I'd love to see them get recognition amongst the top places in TX. Maybe a BBQ roadtrip across the country kind of deal would be pretty cool.

Very cool. Moos in LA was amazing. Never made it to their brick and mortar but they used to come by Monkish in Torrance somewhat regularly and between the BBQ & beer and the fact that I lived 2 miles away it didn't get much better than that.

Heritage was great and would make me feel at home w/ REK, Gary P, Cory Morrow, etc playing while waiting in line.

Got to know Nick Priedite pretty well when I moved up to the central coast for a couple years after LA. Great BBQ and his burgers were excellent as well. I moved away before he started doing tri tips as well but I'm sure they're also great. He originally set up in the back of Bells which is a Michelin star French spot in tiny ass Los Alamos.

There's a couple CO spots that have gained notoriety since this was published that I think would have a strong showing. Looks like theres gonna be a new spot where AJs used to be opening up next month.

Little Miss in Phoenix was on the best out of state list when it came out. It's really good if you find yourself out here. I took some friends who didn't get the BBQ thing until they went with me. Now they get it.

The 2025 Top 50 article has the 2013, 2017, and 2021 lists linked in the first few paragraphs of the article and I encourage yall to go look back at how much the list has changed over time. I went even further back and dug up the 2008 list (See link here) and was perusing through that one. The below quote had me laughing at how much bbq has pivoted in a totally different direction after this was written.

Quote:

Sadly, few places bother to make their own sides anymore, as purveyors such as Sysco offer mass-produced tubs at irresistibly low prices.

But the biggest change over the past five years is that the gas-burning commercial smoker is gaining ground.

Roegels is one of my favorites in the area, at least the Voss location.

Been going to Feges on Long Point more lately as well but not for standard 'cue. Their $13 Friday burger special is a great deal.

This may have been discussed before, and I'm not going through the thread to find it, and it may also be an old man yells at clouds moment. But can we talk about bbq line etiquette? A couple of things that irk me and are just rude.
1. Line placeholders. Don't pay someone to hold a spot in line for you, or send one person to hold a place in line for five of your friends. Especially in the summer, people are standing in line when it's hot and muggy and generally miserable. Walking up 10 minutes before a place opens to your saved spot in line is ******y. Stand in line with everyone else, and who knows? Someone may give you a beer for being a generally pleasant person.

2. If a place hands you a menu while you're waiting in line, know what you want to order by the time you get to the counter. I promise, the menu on the wall is exactly the same as what someone handed to you. Staring at the menu trying to decide what you want is something you should have done before. Know what you want when someone asks you for your order.

3. Stop trying to be the next big Instagram influencer. This includes trying to talk to everyone on staff telling them your life story and how you have x number of followers and you should get special treatment, and posing for pictures while holding up the line. If you want to do this stuff while waiting in line, that's fine. But when it's time to order, get your food, pay, and don't make everyone else wait while you're trying to get the perfect shot for the 'gram while being a ******-canoe.

Rant over.

They sold about a half a year ago. The original owners left and it sold to the main pit master at the time. He's done amazing, but it's been a learning curve taking over a business. Still great quality though. But maybe had a couple steps back then one forward kind of process since the change.
