1.) Agreed, except if I'm there with my family you want me to order for all 6 of us and my wife watch the kids run around somewhere else.

2.) Hard agree. Even if they don't hand them out, the internet exists and you should be mostly ready.

3.) Agree.

I think there is a huge difference between Dad standing in line and making and paying for a single order for a family while Mom watches kids who have no patience for a line compared to one dude standing in line while his 5 buddies who are each ordering and paying for themselves wander up at showtime.

That's the crap that pisses everyone off.

If you don't want to stand in line, do your research. Lots of places allow preordering to go. Yesterday I picked up a large order at Tejas Chocolate to take to my parents. I placed the order the night before and picked the time slot to have it ready. I walked right up to their pick up area, waited 3 minutes while they finished it and was right out the door. It's just as good to go as it is sitting down at an indoor table.

I get ramped up about #1 if you're paying separately. Like if one dude is there and then 5 coworkers walk up and they all order separately that makes me crazy. But if it's a group that's all paying together and they do one order I don't have as much a problem with it. One ticket/order makes it go quick and tells you they are trying to get through. But if they're just place holding and you have 5 different tickets/orders that takes so much longer and is tedious.

Hahaha the menus. Yes. Everyone has looked, please have an idea. It probably isn't your first time to a bbq joint. Get up and order. You've had plenty of time to look.

I agree with that. My main point on that if I didn't make it clearly was that people standing in line brave the elements, and they may get there early to get certain limited items. If I find out items are out by the time I get there because there were a bunch of line-cutters ahead of me, I'm going to be pissed.

I prefer to see what I'm potentially ordering if possible before committing but won't be that person holding up the line at a busy spot either. I know what to get if the brisket or ribs don't look up to snuff.

Like breweries and beer bars, some people treat ordering BBQ like it's a life-changing decision.

Agree. Roegels is probably my favorite short wait in Houston.

This may have been discussed before, and I'm not going through the thread to find it, and it may also be an old man yells at clouds moment. But can we talk about bbq line etiquette? A couple of things that irk me and are just rude.
1. Line placeholders. Don't pay someone to hold a spot in line for you, or send one person to hold a place in line for five of your friends. Especially in the summer, people are standing in line when it's hot and muggy and generally miserable. Walking up 10 minutes before a place opens to your saved spot in line is ******y. Stand in line with everyone else, and who knows? Someone may give you a beer for being a generally pleasant person.

2. If a place hands you a menu while you're waiting in line, know what you want to order by the time you get to the counter. I promise, the menu on the wall is exactly the same as what someone handed to you. Staring at the menu trying to decide what you want is something you should have done before. Know what you want when someone asks you for your order.

3. Stop trying to be the next big Instagram influencer. This includes trying to talk to everyone on staff telling them your life story and how you have x number of followers and you should get special treatment, and posing for pictures while holding up the line. If you want to do this stuff while waiting in line, that's fine. But when it's time to order, get your food, pay, and don't make everyone else wait while you're trying to get the perfect shot for the 'gram while being a ******-canoe.

Rant over.
My biggest pet peeve is people that will go squat on a table BEFORE their party orders. Some dude will be 20 people back and his wife will go sit at a table and look at her phone while the people that just ordered are walking around looking for a place to sit. That's bad bad behavior.

1. I'm fine with as long as you order together. We do this a lot when I have family in town. I'll have the order chambered and order for the entire group. But more often than not, it's a bunch of numbskull bros that don't know what they want (see #2) ordering separately.

2. This makes me crazy. Especially when it's somewhere with a traditional menu with the basic meats. It's like Ribs, Sausage, Brisket. What do you want?

3. I've never seen this before. But I will absolutely be trying to line up a picture at my table before you're allowed to eat. If I'm spending $200 on barbecue, you can wait a couple of minutes before you grab a rib.

Same, you can basically walk right in and order any time you go, even peak lunch time, and all their stuff is great.

I agree 100% with all three points. In fact, a few months ago someone I was meeting up with got upset with me because I wouldn't come join them in the line.

Just FYI, I drove by Jennings & Co, the "other" top 50 spot in Montgomery last Saturday about 11:30am and there was ZERO wait. They're not feeling the Top 50 impact...yet.

We did knock off Jennings & Co in Montgomery this morning.

Arrived at 11. Each order took about 5 minutes. Eating by 11:40. The line was nearly entirely people (from out of state) from a wedding down the road. So the decent crowd seemed more circumstantial than from the buzz.

For us, Bar A will easily remain the go to in Montgomery. And Tejas remains the go to in the area. The brisket was fine, good bark, but it was quite dry. Especially the lean cuts. The ribs were perfectly cooked, but they were over seasoned. My wife did not care for the seasoning at all. The jalapeño sausage was good.

Sides were fine. But I hope you like bell peppers. Literally each of the sides contained bell peppers. The pinto beans were the best of the bunch, with the corn casserole and cabbage the most interesting.

Sad to say that it's not top 50 for me. And yo, it was a hot day to be eating it outside.

Finally got a chance to swing by interstellar today while visiting the in-laws in Georgetown.
Holy **** this was amazing. The owner came out just before opening and announced that they weren't serving beef ribs for the day as they weren't up to their standards. I grabbed some of the chimichurri that came with the ribs anyway.

Everything was absolutely phenomenal. They were doing a smoked tomahawk as the special which sounded, and looked (saw em finishing em on the Santa Maria grill) excellent. Sounds like they'll be doing them again for Father's Day.

I didn't go too crazy on the plate but it was plenty for me.

Experience? Incredible.
Brisket? Great.
Ribs? Great?
Pork steaks? Life-changing.
Sausage? Ok, texture can be hit or miss.
Sides? Who has room for sides?
Beer? Free.

I was not really impressed with snows. I thought it was just OK, but I only had the brisket, sausage, ribs and some sides. I enjoyed it, but it did not meet the hype.

For the experience, I would not trade it, it has the best vibe of all the BBQ joints I have been to. I actually made a list of and I have over 80+ BBQ visits over the last 10 years or so, not that many really given the time. My stomach shows it too.

Make sure to walk back by the pits and get a tour from Ms. Tootsie. She is Snow's and she loves showing folks around. Living legend.

FYI....Texas Monthly and Yeti have a drawing to skip the line at any of the top 10 restaurants, $100 gift certificate, and a Yeti cup. Reads as if you get a $100 gift certificate and skip the line at each, but not sure...

Texas Monthly The YETI Pit Pass Sweepstakes!

ETA: it is a skip the line and $100 to each of the top 10, so $1,000 total.

JNL BBQ in Austin. Owner previously worked for Franklin's. Overall thought it was really great BBQ. Brisket is very similar to Franklin's. The Al Pastor Ribs are very unique but outstanding, Turkey was on point, Pulled pork was done Carolina style.

Brisket, Al Pastor Pork Ribs, Cajun Butter Turkey, Pulled Pork, Mac & Chesse & Green Beans.
