No spoilers in this review other than confirming it's awesome.

The reporting on this has been all over the place. Last I read (as was widely reported), it was set two years before Alien. Guess not...

Spoiler I read today that I guess may not be spoiler tomorrow. Regarding scope of this series and not a plot spoiler: This series apparently does away with the Promotheus movies and those are not canon with this series. This series effectively re-baselines the series from this point forward

I haven't finished the episodes today.

But a cursory glance of the internet seems like this conversation was from a week ago and an interview with the creator that seemingly misquoted him

Watched the first episode tonight. I liked it quite a bit. Evocative of the original movie in many respects, and I got a bit of a Blade Runner vibe with the Synths.

Those two episodes of tv are the best Alien content since Aliens, holy **** those were great.

For future reference…

(Not able to watch tonight, personally, but can't wait to dive in tomorrow.)

This was a fantastic start and can't wait for the rest. Loved all the references to previous movies, from the set design to camera work/editing.

And some of these new creatures are creeeeeepy.

Those first two episodes were great!

(How are we handling spoilers??)

*Love the idea of various corporations in addition to Weyland-Yutani.
*Bonus points for introducing Yutani.
*Timothy Olyphant rocking Rutger Hauer's hairstyle is a different look for him.
*Alien designs were great; the little hellgrammite bloodsucker was particularly creepy & channeled some "Wrath of Kahn" vibes.
*The plant alien thing was particularly interesting.... wtf does it do?
*I think there is one more alien species that hasn't been shown?
*Main actress is Kyle Chandler's daughter & is from Dripping Springs.

Overall I give this one 8/10. Would have been 9/10 but THERE WERE SO MANY *&^$ COMMERCIALS!

I don't understand this timeline...

So Alien:Earth is based after Ripley comes back in Alien; but before/with/after Aliens...? Is that right?

That makes more sense thann the early reports that it's 30 years before the events of Alien.... which made no sense.

I'd try to stick with spoiler tags for a while since this show is so new, and the first two episodes were such a blast that I wouldn't want to ruin anything for anyone.

-Agree that it's pretty cool the earth is basically owned by a few companies.
-The different creatures were cool AF, I'm not sure which was the coolest to be honest, they're all so unique.
-The slug/insect things were creepy as hell.
-I bet we find out what the plant does when a person gets near it, which I'm guessing is carnivorous. The only "people" we saw get close to it were artificial and it had some kind of sensory organ that was checking them out. I'm very curious as to how it got where it was located in the ship, can it move around?
-The scene with the cat...holy crap!
-I thought it was awesome how they only showed the aftermath of what a xenomorph can do to a room full of people in a short time.
-I thought the acting was strong across the board, I think it's really cool that so much of the cast are playing non-humans even if several have human consciousness. I think that gives them a lot of flexibility in how they want to tell the story.
-I think we get one more alien species as well. IIRC I read somewhere there's a total of 5 different species in the show. We've seen the xenomorphs, the plant, the slug/insects, and the tentacled eye creature. I think the one that's left is something that flies.
-Only real gripe was the very end when they found several eggs in a room together. Where did those all come from? Joe stuck his face right over one, in any other Alien movie you only need to get near one for a facehugger to come out.

I watched on Hulu last night, no commercials so I'm at like a 9.5 out of 10 on those first two episodes.

On E2, best TV since Landman!!!! Closing out with StinkFist was cool but seemed misplaced

Does one have to have seen all the other aliens to understand this? Or at least Prometheus and Covenant?

I don't think I have ever seen Covenant, but watched Prometheus once a long time ago and have mostly forgotten it.

And I don't get that time. Wasn't the alien new to everybody in Alien 1? Why would the be surprised if the aliens were already infecting Earth?

No. This is separate. Only main attack predators and face sockets. The other things are new.

If you've seen Alien, you're good. Everything else is superfluous. You really don't need to have seen that tbh, the xenomorphs are introduced to characters who don't know jack about them & things are being explained accordingly.

The timeline at this point is really irrelevant, IMO this will be addressed as the show moves on. Let the ubernerds worry about that & just enjoy it for what it is: Freaking awesome TV exploring the Alien-verse better than anything since Aliens.

So synthetics were the only ones I remember from all the other films.

Hybrids and Cyborgs are both new to this franchise, correct?

Those sneaky *******s at Weyland-Yutani probably crashed that ship on purpose to take out Prodigy as their start-up competitor since Prodigy is the one with the hybrid human technology.

That was awesome. I'm HOOKED.

Interesting that Wendy is the prototype but seems to be more advanced than the subsequent hybrids.

Also, the cyborg is acting like a full blown synthetic. Zero regard for others. 100% mission oriented just like Ash in Alien. Actually worse because Ash at least acted like he cared at first.

The Tool song at the end of episode 2 was the cherry on top.

The cyborg stated they track or focus on fear. And then the alien does not attack him when close to him. So I guess he was controlling his fear. Yeah, whatever, everything would be afraid of that SOB.
